To all those that haul tractors: Note the tractor did not stay in place on the trailer, but the chains allowed it to move.
It was not chained properly, and that may have contributed to the wreck!
I so often see backhoes and even large excavators going down the freeway bouncing around on the trailer with too few and loose chains, not only is it hard on the tractor and trailer with all the banging and shock loading, it's not legal! (or safe)
Well from the looks from this angle it doesn't look like the back bucket was chained down any way but that doesnt really matter for this sake even though most people do not but it is the law to do so. I'm wondering why you didn't unchain the backhoe since it was laying down already on the ground and do the trailer and machine seperately for less risk of a chain breaking that held the backhoe on and more problems.. a larger tow truck with more of a crane would have still been better.
Wrong kind of trailer for hauling a backhoe. That's a 17,000 pound piece of equipment on a trailer with the wheels out to the side instead of underneath.

That's not a backhoe that's a termite. Short for a POS yellow thing with a couple of buckets and some tires............definitely not a backhoe.

17,000 lbs! Not likely that thing is tiny. Nice recovery anyhow.

How were the tractor and trailer transported?
Together or separately?
Trailer with tractor still loaded pulled up onto the flatbed carrier?
If so, back first or tongue first?
Pros at work. Very controlled and cautious. Good work!!!
sunsetglen 3 years ago
They towed the whole thing on the flatbed with the tongue first- was a very slow process getting it loaded.

Nice controlled recovery. Well done guys.
Did they take the wheels off the trailer to set it back up or did they come off in the accident?
treemendus 3 years ago
No the tires coming off caused the accident- trailer fishtailed. Made the recovery much harder- one side of trailer dug into the pavement.

At least it´s properly tied down to the trailer.
