  • Back in the days in the 1968 to 72 there where no such thing as srt 8 only the true legendary emblem such as the r/t , se superbee daytona r/t , charger r/t daytona first car in nascar top 200 mph. srt 8 got NOTHING on R/T Remember R/T got history Son.

    True, You can add Superchips or Diablo Tuner, Cold Air Intake and some Headers and it will be as fast as an SRT and will save you some money as well

  • well not just that, you also need brembo brakes, stronger low end, and a few more things, i know SRT8 is pricy but it's the only charger i would get, i drive an 05 mustang GT, it's quicker then the RT but i get killed by the SRT. I've driven the RT and the SRT and the difference is alot, the SRT will scare you

  • i would prefer the srt, iam a mustang guy, i'd get the gt500 anyday over anything but if you can afford the srt, and it's gas, why not. the RT might be enough, but i work at a car dealership and i've driven fast cars, and i mean, M, AMG, Z06, i even drove the newest M3 on the road and the z4m as well, so the RT was not enough for me, it's big, heavy and slow . but if you're a family guy, the charger is a good choice. i think it looks great with the spoiler specially the daytona package

  • You CAN swap a 6.1 for the 5.7, but you'd be stupid to. I moded my RT into a 550 hp 570 lbs of tq monster with a custom built 6.7 liter motor. IT KILLS SRT8s.

  • Two things, one I'm assuming because most people consider the Charger SRT to be a separate vehicle than the Charger(stupid I know but true). Also, there are still only 3 engine options because as far as I know, the 2.7 is no longer offered in the Charger, however I could be wrong about that.

  • The SRT-8 runs 13.1 at 109, so they'd be close, but not dead even, and, 13.6-13.3 is not "owning" it, it's just, as in the previous example, close. Also, the Charger is competition for the Mustang GT, special edition models don't count. The only reason the Mach 1 is faster with less power is because it weighs 1,000 lbs less.

  • Your argument about how Mustang is a better car has valid points, however, your basing it off of pure performance aspects, in which the Mustang does have bad points(live axle). Anyway, one could argue other points such as practicality, the Mustang is HUGELY impractical i.e. the backseat is useless, there's almost no cargo space, and don't even get me started on how well it fares in an accident. All points the Charger is superior in. The Mustang is pure sports car, Charger is much more than that.

  • One other point is that the Mustang is considered a PONY car. Lighter and meant more for 2 people, the Charger is a Sedan! A different class. The Challenger is the car to be compared to the Mustang. I have all respect for the Mustang but aside from the GT500, most are pretty evenly matched with a Charger RT

  • Interesting..I didn't know 5.5 seconds was almost 6. That's quite a difference when you're talking about a 0-60 time. A G8 doesn't kill a Charger R/T...it very well may beat it by about a foot or so but it stands no chance against an SRT8.

  • an SRT8 running 14's is a bad driver. Im doing LOW 13's with an RT and very little modding. G8 is quick and SOME can take me by about a half car length. Im experienced. G6 isnt even a match for an RT unless its suped up. So theres your answer.

  • I disagree, without the 4 doors I wouldn'y have bought it. I got tired of people climbing over me to get in with all the 2 doors I had. When this came out with 4 I was ecstatic as it is MORE functional in today's times and still just as potent.

  • I agree, I have total respect for the Stang in all versions, but not practical for me hauling clients, friends, etc. So the 4 doors was the clincher. However, they're not that expensive. The base RT is only $28K but the SRT8 is based around $36K and I felt having the MDS for gas mileage was a MAJOR deciding factor. I get 31 MPG with a HEMI. I was floored when I started to track it.

  • Plenty of mods out for chargers, running ram air, vortech performance exhaust, headers, superchip reprogrammer, Daytonas run 5.6 o-60 stock by the way...... My buddies GTCS is brand new! Daytonas run the srt-8 pcu programming and will trash r/t chargers.

  • from what i read n the dodge website is that a charger r/t stock does 0-60in 6.2 seconds weighs to much to be in the mid 5s few and daytona and r/t are the same thing pretty much

  • The Daytona is slightly different than the R/T it only puts out 10 more horses but it's 0-60 time is a half second faster. The difference that every one knows about is the "Sport tuned" free flowing exhaust (Which I trashed for a Cherry Bomb Vortech cat back JBA high flow cats and Hedman shorty headers almost immediatly) but thats not what makes up the difference, the Daytona PCM shares similar programmin g with the SRT-8 so it's not such a family tuned sedan.

  • Check the power to weight ratio of the two cars. 11.5 for the Manual mustang and 11.71 for the Daytona. Not that huge a difference. It's 12.05 for the regular R/T. A good driver and working the tree at the track can make this up. Mustang beats charger o-60 because its geared better for that! But if we were to run from of laughlin to vegas the stang would loos on the top end. Stock anyway. Don't get me wrong I love mustangs! They are fast and a ton of fun. And I wouldnt buy a base R/T

  • and if they wanted a charger sedan, leave that for the sxt and up to the rt models but make a srt8 charger coupe

  • i really hate chrysler for doing this, the charger should have never been a sedan, (thats the 300c's job) the avenger is enough of a sedan, but atleast they made the new challenger to suit my needs,

  • I admit i love the mustangs. Really these cars arent in the same class. The charger is a family car no matter what the hell you do to it. Its a damn sedan thanx chrysler dumbasses. Now on the other hand the mustangs arent going to be built quite as good.Hence pony car vs a big high horsepower sedan.

  • must be a classic california special from the 60's with less hp no way in hell a updated GT CS .or your buddy cant drive or your lying to save face ..that HEAVY 4 door family car with the name "charger" curb weight is 4,268 lbs and does 0 to 60mph in 6.2 seconds an unmodded stock Mustang GT coupe 3,450 lbs 300hp can do 0-60 in 5.4 seconds i have raced r/ts in my 2006 stang gt with cold air intake and they cant stay neck and neck they get left 3 cars legths behind in a long stretch

  • I personally think if you're going to buy a fast car, you need to get the high end model. Not the R/T but the Srt-8 which is WAY more powerful! I'd rather have a plain Srt-8 than a Daytona. Or better yet, the Superbee!

  • 0-60 in 5.6 sec (Car & Driver test) 350hp / 390lb-ft torque in a luxurious full size four door sedan filled with high tech equipment for 30 - 35K out the door. You'll be hard pressed to find content and performance for even TWICE the price. A full size offering from Europe or Japan with equivalent content and performance will run you six figures. The only thing close from GM or Ford is a Caddy STS which will run you double the price of this baby.
