I wonder if Disney will mind my new lyrics for the tune. "Dexter Texter" may raise awareness about a serious safety problem, those who text while driving.
Born to be distracted as you can see.
Talked up a storm when he was only three.
Raised on the boob tube, watchin' comedy.
Made up his mind to live dangerously.
Dexter, Dexter Texter, texted his life away!
More can be seen at the gridlocksmith blog (Sorry, utube won't allow url's here.) Will Disney permit radio spots- this music + new words?
Sure would love to hear you do a Sinatra version of "Mike Fink and The Riverboat Pirates". (Aha...betcha I got you there, New England Frontier Guy.) Could have also used you to carry out that last note on this effort. (Forsooth, Breath Control...where art thou?) Somewhere In Time, John
John: I think this is really nice! Love the overdubbed vocals. And how wonderful that you were able to meet Fess and work with him! Thanks for sharing this with me! Best, Ken
You're welcome, Ellen. "Childhood" may be a relative concerning this song. Incredibly, I heard it a few days ago in a Ralph's Supermarket. Cordially, John
He was a heck of a nice guy, indeed, and this is a great tribute. Thank you, dear John. We are surely losing a lot of the great names of earlier t.V. and movies.
Yeah I heard about his death this morning. Fine man, a true American unlike the movieland today.
Great old song too! Takes me back to a simpler, friendly times when you could really believe that we lived in "the land of the free and the home of the brave". As a kid I felt linked to Crockett and the Alamo. Fewer today feel that way -- I'm afraid if you asked the average high school student today about the Alamo you get "The what?!" Stars*******
Thanks a lot for your cogent remarks, Bernie. I'm not exactly an old fogey, but I would venture to say if you asked any checkout minion at a grocery store who Bing Crosby is, they would counter with: "What rock group is he with?" As Steve Allen would say... "Never under-estimate the dumbing down of America." What a bad rap for the U.S., if you get my drift. Thanks again for your insights. Cordially, John
Probably needless to mention...besides Fess' rendition, Bill Hayes also had a wonderful recording of this patriotic musical slice of history. A fun song to try. Many thanks, W.D. Appreciatively, John
A super job on a fun song!!! 5***** I remember the Davy Crockett craze that swept the USA in the early to mid fifties! It seemed that every boy just had to have his own "coon skin hat!" lol
Many thanks, Dwayne. Yes, I wish I'd had that hat back then. However, Fess was very generous in bestowing that chapeau to us as a gift when Kristi and I visited his winery in Los Olivos. And he wasn't even upset when we had a Coke instead of a wine taster. Talk about generosity from the former mayor of Santa Barbara! Your friend, John

Ah, Memory Lane indeed; tried to dig out my coonskin cap - stuck out my thumb and pulled out a ski hat. Sign of the times, I guess.
Nice picking and harmonies, JJD R.I.P. Fess Parker

Yes, so we are...one of my favorites of the past (possibly before my time) was Kathryn Grayson not too long ago, as well as Jennifer Jones. xxxJohn
