  • Simplesmente belíssimo.

  • No words to describe the beauty of Pilar Lorengar and Richard Leech and this Aria. Absolute perfection and I listen to it over & over again. Thank you so much for posting. Barbara Todres/NYC

  • OMG>>>Leech's voice is incredibly gorgeous and this is a lovely duet.

  • This is beautiful singing, but not in the original french but in german. Schade !

    Hans NL

  • @qklq42 I'm part Huguenot and I love French but it is not suited to strong expression such as this style of opera. German and Italian are best for this.

  • @keyofdavid888

I think you are right !

  • A "Golden Age" moment from a Richard Tucker Gala!

  • LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUV IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Leech had an amazing voice .......then silence ( 2010 )

  • Lorengar already died in 1996,so 14 yrs ago,but she is still so much around, play records and see youtube regularly.I have never been so pleasantly surprised when she sang at abt 64 yrs of age with a huge volume and hardly vibration. She sang still brilliant in her "spare time" A great soprano and she looked superb It was a shock to hear she died at only 68 yrs of age(1928-1996)Many singers stop too late the examples are numerous, but Pilangar remained high quality till the end

    Brilliant soprano

  • What's the original name of this duet?

  • @tneprescintr

"Tu l'as dit", Act IV. It is the second part of the long duetto "O ciel, où courrez-vous ?".

  • Wow...! Leech is in crazy good form here. Really so so great..! And I love Loengar's sound.. very beautiful.

  • This is amazing! Some of the best singing you could ask for! There is nothing wrong with his jaw and Leech has not declined at all, but he, unlike so many tenors today, actually KNOWS HOW TO SING without pushing or screaming! BRAVO!!!!

  • Odd, an American Tenor and Spanish soprano singing in german rather than French, but superb from both- I see Richard Bonynge is conducting and he is no longer young. Not sure when Lorengar left us, but this couldn't have been that many years ago- does anyone know?

  • I mean it must be 1988

  • It was some time in the early 90's at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (hence the German) in a staging by John Dew. As I recall Leech was brought in at the last minute to replace another tenor. He had a spectacular success in the premiere.

  • Amazing

  • He escuchado varias veces a Richard Leech, pero ya no me acordaba de esta epoca (es al principio de su carrera Internacional) Dios mío! que grande era. Ella ha sido maravillosa e inteligentisima, una gran carrera.

  • Absolutely great - both Lorengar and Leech!

  • he does something strange with his jaw. perhaps this is a sign of why he declined?

  • I'll tell you something, I didn't like the change in tone at 1:21.

  • It sounds so strange in German. This spoils a part of the representation (accents are not the sames) and some sentences cut, at very important places (e.g. at the end of a crescendo, singers stop singing :( ).

    Very good chosen scene...

  • this is a real treat. Thanks. Has anyone got the Tony Poncet recording that they could post. Another tour de force.

  • Leech is wonderful. I wasn't familiar with his voice, though I've been hearing about him as long as I can remember. But what are they singing? It is most definitely not Les Huegenots because they're singing in German.

  • It is Huguenots. Even though it's usually done in French, there is a German version of the opera.

  • I stand corrected.

  • I think they pulled out the German version one season at the Deutsche Oper...not exactly sure though. I thought the same thing first time I heard it (not being too familiar with any part of the opera other than O Beau Pays). I had to check the score...

  • A perfect pair.. Leech is impeccable and Lorengar (at 59) is a dream.

  • I also had it as a video tape and am so happy to find it here. Richard Leech is huge ! I also saw his sessions of recording of his Faust with Studer, directed by Michel Plasson, on french TV, and he was very impressive and idiomatic in his "Salut, demeure chaste et pure".

  • Wonderful. I think Lorengar actually sounds better than her younger self!

  • She aged extremely well. At 64 She sang during the Olympics and sounded no different than this...

  • This is just a great clip. A good example of why Leech and Lorengar were famous. Leech is extraordinary.

  • EXTRAORDINARIO DUO

  • Eureka! I didn't expect to find this. I once had this on video tape, but it somehow got erased, to my dismay. Leech has one of the most beautiful and sensual voices. We need to hear more from him! This is indeed gorgeous and a keeper. Thanks Operazine!!!

  • DAMN I'm so glad this vid is back. I LOVE this duet, and these two are AMAZING singing it. It's just so perfect. Lorengar was unbelievable.

  • I agree!! Leech's instrument was so rich. And there isn't a soprano out today that can lace Lorengar's boots (even at her age in this performance).

  • How old was she here? She sounds fresh and vibrant. I have no idea what year this was...

  • I'm pretty sure this is the 1987 Richard Tucker Gala. That would've made Lorengar around 59. Damn impressive if you ask me.
