It is actually very closely related to the old Judo katas.
Remember that it is basically the creation of Shizuya Sato, who is 9th dan Judo and created this as his own art, making himself 10th dan Shihan in the process.
judo was born out of jujutsu, infact judo originally WAS jujutsu. read professor kano's book kodokan judo for more info. but its wrong to say karate was born from jujutsu. karate was called te or ti, indigenous art of okinawa, influenced by southern kung fu of china it became tote/tode or tote jutsu. which meant china (to) hand (te) art(jutsu), the kanji used to write to was later changed to kara, which also meant china, and was later changed again to a different spelling which means empty
JuJutsu is the name of a new MA, formed out of the former Jiu Jitsu, Karate and Aikido.
Dough there are some translation problems with the chinese symbols, jiu jitsu is used for the former samurai waeponless fighting style, and Ju Jutsu/Ju Jitsu for the new technique.
actually they are all the same word. gentle art ju jutus. but ask anyone who speaks japanese...it is pronounced ju jutsu. not jiujitsu, or jujitsu. the word jitsu has nothing at all to do with martial arts. and if you look at koryu..old school traditional jujutsu, that is how they spell it most likely. jiujitsu is normally associated with brazilian jujutsu.
Pronounce in japanese language changes from one place to other. So pay attention :)
And "koryu" only means "old school". These is no words about using body, sword, spear or bow.
Now jiu-jitsu associate with Gracy family only 'cause Gracy became famous on TV at UTF. But it's sad to hear something like that: "Jiu-jitsu? Yeah, I saw. It's a kind of brasilian wrestling"
xyfex44..your information is wayyy off buddy. jiujitsu and jujutsu are the same arts...just different english spellings lol but yeah thanks for the laugh man you made my day...
jujutsu was first. the samurai began using it around the thirteen hundreds. aikdo was founded after the meiji sword ban, which was around 1870, i believe.
ehehe both are connected together and they make a great fighting arts that's it... I practice jujutsu, ninjutsu and more and they all come into the others...so who cares which come first.. :)
Aikido stemmed from jujutsu, not the other way around. DaitoRyu jujutsu is where Aikido has stemmed from. And from DR jujutsu also came the editted version later called JUDO as well as other forms.
Negative my friend, Judo came Tenshin Shinyo-ryu and Kito-ryu jujutsu. The daitoryu system had nothing to do with judo, except for the student ( 6th dan, postmortem) Shiro Saigo, who was a student of Tanomo Saigo. So...
Yes and no. Aikido stemmed from Daito-ryu and is highly influenced from the Shinto sect that O-sensei was a part of. Jujutsu, as well as judo, have almost nothing to do with the aiki arts.
there is jujutsu in the aiki arts. on a daito ryu website it explains how it starts with jujutsu, then aiki, then aikijujutsu, or jujutsu with the principle of aiki applied. thats why they call it aikijujutsu, instead of just calling it aikijutsu.
That being in how the techniques are applied and the intend behind them. Jujutsu uses more of the push-pull principle while the aiki use more of a push-turn.
Well yes and no, maybe I just phrased that a little poorly. They are similar in the respect that jiu-jitsu stemmed from aikido and others, but they are different in there philosophy and implementation. This particular video shows only the aikido aspect (aikido being a root of jiu-jitsu). The second part of this video adds on more of the aggressive aspects that were added to create jiu-jitsu. My point was that this video doesn't really show any of the techniques that make jiu-jitsu, jiu-jitsu.

So what do you mean? What exactly do you think is it that makes jujutsu, jujutsu?
priori2ude 5 years ago
Interesting, 100% of your jujitsu demonstration was aikido techniques.
gmangsxr750 5 years ago
That's because they come from the same root system. The two arts are very very similar.
