  • Ok, so the puppets weren't too bad but the voices all suck. What a shame this was ever made.

  • NO! you do NOT seek to serve, you seek to enslave! REMEMBER!

  • I want to strange the people who made SC3. Strangle them to death.

    In their sleep.

  • It's so disgusting to compare this Ur-Quan dialogue with that from Star Control 2...

  • this is a disgrace to the ur-quan...

    no awesome personallity

    no awesome music

    no awesome back ground

  • Captain of the League of Sentient Races, this is Zor-Ath, captain of the sewer ship....

  • Jesus christ, the REAL Ur-Quan look DOWN on alien species, not up! An Ur-Quan would NEVER speak that way to the human captain!

  • B4 this argument gets heated, both star control 2 and 3 are perfectly ok in my opinion.

  • Wher did the great music dissapear... ahhh

  • even the music sucks, star control 2 is best

  • @ClankytheGorn: You're only 15 .. your ignorant opinion is worthless.

  • @Paperclown Too bad I actually do know what I'm talking about, and what do you mean I'm 15? How does that even matter. And Ignorant Opinion? I have played the star control games and alot of other people would agree with me that star control 3 sucks.

  • @ClankytheGorn: you were dead that's why it matters. It was only released in 96 and you weren't even invented. Go play your wii kid.

  • @Paperclown First off. Wii sucks. Old games are generally awsome. Star control 2 is better. I wasn't dead, I just didn't exist yet. IDIOT. You should just go play your star control 3 and be done with it.

  • @ClankytheGorn: i know they are awesome. you missed out on the best gaming era. all you have now is fps games, my xbox collects dust.

  • @Paperclown My point exactly. SNES, n64, NES, more. They were the best gaming systems ever. I have most old classic game systems and play them more then new ones. I grew up with them.

  • @ClankytheGorn: check out "Justin (DOT) tv" in the gaming section.

It's like Live Youtube with a chat room and the hosts use a webcam and mic to do audience participation while playing retro games.. It is a blast.

  • Meh, puppet is passable and voice is ok. Still, I prefer SC2 voice.

  • @Mandemon1990 Agreed. The voice isn't bad and the puppet is .. ok I guess ( little stiff ). But the talking pattern and the script was much better Sc2. I mean the way they spoke in certain rythm... cant explain fully.

  • @Juff0Wup

I know what you mean man. It made them more menacing, yet... gah, let's just say SC2 was best then serie and call it a day, shall we?

  • The most kick-ass ships in the history of the universe

  • I miss the star control 2 voice's. the ur-quan in sc2 was scarier.

  • he looks stoned

  • "We seek to serve"? WTF wrong with this Ur-Quan?

  • "Most powerful ship known in our home quadrant"

Obviously, this guy has never even heard of the Chmmr.

  • The Ur-Quan "home quadrant" is on the other side of the galaxy.

  • or the spathi... or the thraddash... or the orz...

  • This is the first mention of a modern Ur-Quan having a name.

Do you think the ones in SCI and SCII HAVE names, or just numbers?

  • they mentioned in SC2 that the kor ah and kzer za were both named after ur quan leaders with those names. still sounds better than zorak or whatever

  • This guy knows how to fight ^^

  • I liked the Green Ur-Quan's story about how they defeated those psychic mind controller things. Something about a scientist broadcasting that if an Ur-Quan mutilated their body the controller would be forced to de-link it's psychic control which would give an Ur-Quan a few minutes to kill it.

  • Wait.... so the Ur-quan Kzer-Za are our ALLIES in this one?! WTF!!! What kind of insane, f*cked up world do we live in now?!

  • This game is an abomination to all things Star Control II.

  • Its becouse it wasn't made by the real creators, another company bouth the rigths and made this, the guy ho mad it, recently anounced of a new Starcontrol but a sequel to th SCII

Dude, just look at that Ur-quan, it looks like a Spider

  • There's not Dnyarri to speak for them either, so it's also weird.

  • its non canon but is it still fun? I'll play it if the gaming system is still pretty neat

  • The fucked up part is hearing the ur quan say "We seek to serve"

  • Indeed.....the sheer irony of it all seeing that they were ready to enslave, the Kzer-Za that is. I've yet to play this.

  • I don't know. Many anti-heroes and villains turn out to be honorable when they "switch" allegiances, at least in anime and comic books. The Ur-Quan were disciplined before, and they seem to exercise humility in the beginning of SC3 as a way of redemption? I found it quite honest. Too bad it doesn't last.

But whatever, it's not "canon", but it was a solid SC entry nonetheless. Still my second favourite SC game.

  • This is possible one of the best things I've ever read on Youtube...

  • i love this puppet. only one that is good.

  • when did the ur-quan learn to speak anyway? i thought they need talking pets to translate..

  • Our character's flagship's computer provides translations for all alien languages it encounters. Only the ORZ manage to elude it.

There's no reason as to why the Kzer-Za, being the "scientist & thinker" breed of Ur-Quan, wouldn't be able to develop similar or better technology. They probably used the talking pets for so long to continue exacting revenge upon the Dnyarri.

It's also possible the talking pets are still being used, but no longer displayed.

  • If I recall, it was because the Ur-Quan believed other races were so inferior that they wouldn't stoop to talking to them personally, so therefore used the Talking Pet to speak to them.

  • maybe they finally wised up and exterminated the fuckers, piece of fuk dnyairri they must die)

  • I enjoyed these first three chapters, and I think you did a great job on the Taalo design. If you're planning to include the original strain of Ur-Quan (the "Brown Ur-Quan"), I can't remember where I read it as it's been a few years now (but since I care like this about it, it must be official as otherwise I would have considered it fanstuff), that their "brown" is hairs, like a fuzzy caterpillar, and I think their skin underneath that is Green. Maybe that came out of SC2, actually, dunno.

  • Wow. This is just a fantastic video, and I love it to death.

Well, no. It's just a video. But seeing anything from Star Control that doesn't make me cringe is fantastic.

I've never really played Star Control III, and the vast majority of the SCII fansites are long since dead. But the Ur-Quan Masters helped me relive my long-lost love of the 3D0.

Anyway, the Brown Ur-Quan have been long since been morphed into the two strains - worker and thinker - by the Talking Pets.

  • You know, I never really bought the idea of Ur-Quan being on your side. (Let alone Kohr-Ah observers.)

I don't think either race of Quans would be capable of mending their ways, and I always figured they where either annihilated or slaveshielded after they lost the Sa-Matra.

(Leaning towards the latter, since I think the Chmmr wouldn't be that ruthless. But they couldn't let them roam free either.)

  • The Kohr-Ah definitely not since they seem completely insane, but the Kzer-Za seem intelligent enough to know when they're beaten, and while I can't EVER see them bowing to any other race as a leader, I CAN see them joining an alliance or league as equals (and in their personal thoughts, betters) and offering input when asked, although still remaining primarily solitary (the whole instinctual thing).

  • I don't know. I think alot of SC2-fans see the Kzer-Za as nicer then they are since they aren't completely E-ville.

In truth I think their just as insane as the Kohr-Ah and their ways just as set in stone. Their just insane in a more merciful way.

Although in a way that actually is worse. The Kohr-Ah are unapologetically evil. The Kzer-Za think their good guys.

  • I don't think the Kzer-Za are nice, necessarily, they're just extremely/dangerously convinced that they're right and what they're doing is best for everyone. But I DO see them as being lucid and able to hold a civil, intelligent conversation, which the Kohr-Ah can't do without dissolving into cleanse this or that.

  • Oh, I don't know... Both species seem utterly rigid to me. To rigid to ever mend their ways. If they could they would have a long time ago.

And whilst the Kohr-Ah are worse in reality since they kill you off entirely. The Kzer-Za I think are actually worse in a way because they believe their doing the right thing. When their obviously doing no such thing at all.

The Kohr-Ah don't pretend their helping you. But the Kzer-Za think they are.

  • I don't think we're actually disagreeing here, since I'm not saying the Kzer-Za are good guys or anything, just that the Kzer-Za can hold a conversation with other species and seem capable of rational thought. They just have no choice but to follow their doctrine.

  • Heh, guess we don't then. ;)

Actually I love both species of Ur-Quan. (Although if they where real not so much! :D)

Just I thought the idea of Kzer-Za being your allies in SC3 was a bit silly. Like many SC3 ideas (Like that thing they did with the Vux)

  • Hahaha I love them too. :D They're both fascinating!

It is a bit silly, but I think it could be plausible if handled correctly, which it... isn't, sadly enough. :( So many potentially interesting ideas botched in this game.

  • I love this conversation, as I love the species of SC, and their history. (just as I loved talking to all the aliens in Mass Effect more then anything else) So, where did you get this copy of SC3? I knowI have a physical copy of it somewhere, but I've never played it yet, lazy me. So I've been wanting to dig it up and give it a spin and see what's happened to my favorite species after winning the war.... and my *Happy Campers*.

  • For some reason, I enjoyed the UQM voice acting (presumably from 3DO port). Only the Yehat was overdone imho. Also, for some very strange reason, I tolerated the Utwig voices.

  • Ur-Quan are in my opinion the most sophisticated evil science fiction race that was ever created. And the voice is so coool.

  • If I remember right, the Kohr-Ah take over any Kzer-Za colony you try to build.

  • Yeah, that sounds about right. That really screwed me over the first time I played through this. D:

  • sounds like the zentraedi from robotech.

  • Or the Robotech Masters.

  • "we seek to serve"...wtf? theyre the opposite of what they were in SC2 :(, what extreme suckage.

  • They supposedly mended their ways after SC2 and overcame their murdering instincts to join the League of Sentient Races, thus their subservience to the Captain.

  • Meh. Never thought I'd see Ur-Quan doing anything but smashing and crashing.

  • See, it's all good, and the Ur-Quan have always had great Voice Actors. But...

    What about the Talking Pets?

  • The Talking Pets all rebel in SC2, I think.

  • One thing I wondered about the Ur-Quan in SC2, is that the talking pets should be the same voice as the Ur-Quan, cause, well, that's the voice of hte Ur-Quan.

  • Star Control 3 was more of a computer science project than a game. It sured sucked ass. What awful voice acting as well...

  • Better than StarCon2's voice acting at least.

  • Hell no. I mean I wouldn't call Star Control 3's sounds even voice acting (it wasn't even a game after all). The voices were so bad I disabled the sound on my dosbox, since the music was equally as horrific. I mean everything about that game seemed like some (f grade no doubt) computer science project.

  • To make it short: everything about star control 3 was bad, especially the voice acting. I mean, the big monster guys sounding like little shits? I mean not only is there no gameplay or any direction, they make it offensive to the ears!

  • I would gladly take the worst Starcon3 actor over the best Starcon2 one. Are you honestly saying you would prefer the unbearable, earstabbing, complete and sheer *awfulness* of the Starcon2 Utwig voice over this?

  • The utwig voice acting was not awful in star control 2. Everything in Star Control 3 screamed computer science project over a game, since it was not a game, including the voice acting. I've seen better voice acting in flash animations. The voice acting in star control 3 is just plain offensive and I hope the voice actors die.

  • heard better voice acting*

  • If you don't think the Utwig voice acting in Starcon2 was not godawful, then your opinion is completely worthless to me because you must be deaf. There is *no way* that anyone can say that voice was anything but horrible.

  • There is no way anyone can describe anything in Star Control 3 as anything but offensive. I'd rather become a women and have a cheap back alley abortion with a wooden cooking spoon than listen to the voice acting in there.

  • Since you would rather listen to the aural abortions of the SC2 voice actors than listen to reason, this will obviously go absolutely nowhere. I am done with you.

  • How are opinions at all linked with reason? You can't put opinions on the pedestal of reason. But I would rather die by intense pain of castration from fishing knives than have anything to do with Star Control 3.

  • Wow. Somebody's just a little irate. Tell us how you REALLY feel.

  • SC2 doesn't have voice acting, unless you play the goofy 3DO conversion. Personally I don't like voice acting on much of anything, it's annoying and doesn't match my perception of the characters.

  • Yeah, generally I'm not a big fan of voice acting either. Particularly the terrible job done on the 3DO version.

  • I don't know, the voice acting helped me get into it. I like it better.

  • The Ur-Quan are badass. I agree that this puppet and voice is not that bad.
