When I became a paramedic, I was unaware I was going to learn the names of so many firearms.
In the past six months, I've been reacquainted with what a .357 Magnum looks like, I've learned what a Tech 9 and .9 mm pistol are and can identify each. I've even seen some type of military weapon, tho I can't recall its name.
Police always have the weapons in custody before we arrive, but not always hidden away, and they tell us what the gun is. We have to know so we can effectively treat the patient.
I am from Wisconsin and I am a Confederate Civil War Re-enactor. Rebelling has nothing to do with what sides we choose. It's about bringing history alive and showing people what it was like.
Sorry you didn't like it, I was at Gettysburg, PA this year for their reenactment. But I wasn't watching, I was in it. It's a thrill and it feels like I'm time traveling. Reenacting is the only reason I own a gun, and for safety I make sure the real rounds and my reenacting stuff stay away from each other. The yanks have the worst sense of humor when it comes to round balls flying at them. ;)
I can understand your dislike of firearms, but the reason people need weapons like that is to defend against tyranny. That's the purpose of the 2nd Amendment. It's to make sure that when we have to fight the next Revolution, we're armed. The problem is the moral degradation in this society where we have lost a total respect for a human life. Guns don't kill people. That's like saying pencils misspell words. I hope you don't think all gun owners are like the shooter from your story.
If you go to a big reenactment and you see people walking around on the field as field medics or people in period correct clothes and a pale with water, those are the first aid crew, the EMT basics, paramedics and even military combat medics. They give water to soldiers but when things go wrong, they jump into action and can be the difference between life and death.
why the hell would people want to do a re-enactment of a war? a war? they might as well do all the wars all over again for real. war-loving assholes :|
I guess there are some downsides to being well-built. When someone is doing cpr on you, they don't have that good a chance of being successful, LOL! Well, not really. This isn't a laughing matter.
That is actually a misconception. The events that are held in the original states are usually a lot bigger, but they happen all over the US and even world. I reenact in Oregon and Washinton. I also know of groups in Nevada and Arizona.
As somebody who like to do both CW reenactment and has an interest in medicine, this show hit both worlds. In my time as a reeanctor the main thing I have seen people be taken in for is heat exposure, although I also remember a Cavalry man taken in because he got knocked unconscious by a low hanging tree branch.
Yes, they use actual minie balls and Enfield muskets. The Doctors in the nearby hospitals complain each year about the number of amputations they have to perform after each reenactment due to the shattered limbs from the bullets. The reenactors are all in favor of nationalized healthcare, too, because it'll cut down on their health insurance premiums.
Reenactments of famous events are pretty cool. In October every year, in Metropolis, IL, the Fort Massac Encampment takes place and they do a reenactment of the French and Indian war.
My father passed away from a Heart Attack. He collapsed at the restroom at work. I don't know how long he was their until someone found him. They revived him, but once he got to the hospital, he stop breathing and they were unable to revive him again. He was diagnostic with Heart diease

My husband used to watch Civil War reenactments at Gettysburg. I would always go with him, but I didn't like it.
After being held at gunpoint during a robbery, I dislike watching mock-or ANY- shootings.
Yesterday, we treated a patient who'd been shot with a Tech 9. The police had the weapon in custody when we arrived.
I took one look at it and thought, No way in hell does anyone use THAT to kill game. (The usual defense people give for needing a gun.)
That thing looked like a military weapon.

NO!
