There are already two options where an O gauge unit has a camera in it. Lionel made the "Railscope" a GP-9 diesel with a black and white camera inside to get the engineers point of view. K-Line also made a helicopter flat car with a color camera mounted on it. Perhaps they are still available, or on E-Bay.. I have both, and they are worth the purchase.
You should disassemble a phone camera and up the little lens in any of your trains with a light in the front. I'd like to see the trains point of view. ^^
@hellman100 Great idea. Actually, modern camcorders are small enough to ride through the O scale layouts on a custom modified flatcar. We've done this. I'll try to post that video (not of this layout though, sorry)
@SMARTTinc I would think that companies would build engines with great camera's in them, assuming that the inside of the engine isn't completely full... but a lot of model trainers seem to be in it more for the trains than the towns, where I really enjoy both, and trains for being trains and not for the KIND of train it is. So I don't know if there is a market for that.
I know tracks like this with all kinds of work put into it would probably have such an engine if it were available...
@hellman100 I haven't heard of an engine with a camera in it, but if there isn't one out there, then someone's missing out on a great opportunity. Are you listening, MTH and Lionel, etc.?
awesome video i love that PRR T1 cant wait unit one day to have one of my own i collect mostly postwar lionel trains wish they had made a T1 back then
Really great video, love the detail and obviously this is a labor of love. It's the detail and the love that makes this a superb video. Need to subscribe.
@TheRyeman99 The cars on the roads are generally 1:43 scale as that is a popular scale for die cast cars. That makes them about 10% oversized but it hopefully is not too noticeable. Even the cars that MTH sells on their accessories and railcar-auto loads are this scale. For some reason, 1:48 is not popular with model car makers unless they are accessories for 1:48 airplanes. Tamiya does a few 1:48 war era vehicles.
@SMARTTinc thanks that relly help me and it is not notible i never would have know im new to model trains so im just trying to under stand every thing there is to know about o scail model trains
I have watched this video so many times and I'm always super impressed! The detailing is absolutely flawless! I like how you set up the trains as not too fast or too slow. I hope my layout is this good someday. Excellent job!!!
@SirDonutman Thank you so much for the kind words. This layout took several years to construct and is one of the most detailed ones we have built. Many of the buildings have partial or detailed interior window vignettes in addition to the exterior vignettes shown on the video.
@ODSTkingNINJA Usually, the road surfaces are made with several layers of joint compound (usually used on drywall to cover screws and joins), smoothed and sanded, then painted with Woodland Scenics asphalt paint. Finally, the dry surface is then drybrushed with white acrylic paint to weather it down to a light shade.
@nraman4ever A layout of this caliber with superdetailing and interiors on many of the structures would easily be a six figure job. There is a tremendous amount of labor involved in bringing something like this to completion.
That layout is cool, just makes me want to go to my Grandfathers house right now, with CTT Magazines in Hand, and run the iron cab forward or the beautiful silver F-3 A-A sets. I love trains!
The 3 rail O guage trains just don't run smooth. I had a 16x24 MTH layout, and they ran jerky. I switched to HO and problem solved. Plus the realism of Lionel, O Guage etc isn't there. Although this layout is absolutely realistic and painstakingly accurate
It has been our experience that the majority of problems with O gauge operations ( or indeed any scale) can frequently be traced to trackwork or mechanical problems with the locomotives.
We always strive to achieve the level of realism desired by the client, but there is no doubt that HO has a greater assortment of realistic accessories and structures. We do a lot of scratchbuilding and kitbashing for O scale to overcome the lack of variety in available products.
I too think it's awesome.

Excellent detail always makes the difference. It's the work stuff that you don't think people see that increases the quality. Suberb video.
