I had the same problem just check ur air-which might be becuz a modded exhaust- and 2 machine sensors + make sure u close the door very well after any accident it might not be shut perfectly + drive on highways as much as u can + make sure u never put water under the hood > use air machine instead anyone else had that problem
I really hate M5's transmission. Just I ran on rough road, that same transmission fault error came out. And this same problem happened already like 5 times!
@MurataPictures Dude , yah once i got that error i knew that i will keep getting it whatever i did, unless u put it at the Agency itself and pay over 15000 it wont be fixed x.x u will keep getting troubles like changing Fuel Bump, Smg Bump, a GEAR itself lol... i just sold the car realy cheap x.x
Thanks my WRX is doing the same thing and I couldn't tell if it was clutch or transmission but I get it's clutch cause I could floor it to and it goes nowhere.
@onetoughmuff the engine was NOT cold, I had to drive over 100 miles on the motorway with the clutch like this. You can also see the oil temp guage in the video showing that the engine is warm but still has a reduced redline of ~6000rpm.
That looks expensive.....i just brought mines to fix last week...the SMS Hydraulic Pump was fucked up..cost 4900 dollars.....and now i´m having problems in the differential...somehow..everytime i change from N to D it make a noise in the back part of the car...sound´s wear...the problem is that..this noise also happend if i turn of the DSC and just change gears i still hear the back knacking...does any one know what this could be?
@Portum5 Switching from N to D can cause a "clunk" to be heard at the rear end of the car as it engages the gear but this is normal.
If you mean a "whining" or "grinding" noise from the rear diff then this is an indication that you need your differential oil replacing (cheap). Turning DSC off will have no affect on the differential this is simply the Electronic Stability Management. The differential is not affected by the DSC setting at all.
If you want a more detailed response go to m5board.com
@Portum5 I drive an E60 M5 (the one in the video) make sure you have a look at my other M5 Videos and I'm a moderator over at m5board but I am not a mechanic at all, just had some issues with my car that seem to be similar to your issues. No need to apologise for your English, I'm European too by the way (UK) but I bet your English is better than my French/German/Spanish/Polish etc
@scoopzuk thanks my friend:) i understand:) you are the one whit the british m5 that uses the LC a lot of times:) and messed up the Clutch after that :)
I used my LC also a couple of times till now..but the clutch seems to be still intact:)
I´m Portuguese but live since 16 Years in Switzerland:) but right now i´m in the Uk in London for a couple of days..
Where exactly is that TRack where you used the LC? is that in Sweden?i would love to go there once..
@Portum5 Just spent $10K fixing my smg tranny. I had that noise when my clutch & hydro pump were going out. When they replaced both of those things it went away. Did they check your clutch and flywheel?
@kicker1122chad my friend..i sold the car allready..i got a gtr now...i replaced the hydraulik smg pump..clutch , flywheel and differential..all togheter around 18k.... i used the launch control over 55 times:) ...
Why post a video of you blowing a clutch? It just shows that you are incapable of handling a proper sports car. Cmon man. This isn't a good thing. That said, I'm glad you were at least able to replace it under warranty, especially considering the fact that they probably knew that you abused the car like a 5 dollar hooker.
@mrbuttman36 actually it can happen to even the best of drivers with the e60 m5's... the transmissions they used werent properly capable of handling lots of hard driving, and yet they designed the car FOR hard driving...so thats like saying "we'll give you this car with 507 hp and its fast as hell...BUT...you gotta baby it or it'll break on you" ....the manual is the same way the automatic is, it needs a beefier clutch.
@mrbuttman36 i hope so cause with my new medical career i was strongly considering a M5 until i learned about their little clutch problem, i mean yes its a warranty covered issue but i really dont wanna have to go to a shop every time i drive fast in my sport sedan. so now im debating what to get.
@rcrocker02 You're just starting a new career? If that is true, the LAST thing you should be thinking about is buying an expensive car, pal, because you're throwing money down the toilet. Buying an expensive car should be WAY down the list. Put your money in stocks and real estate. I finally bought an expensive car, but that's because I already have a nice house and a nice retirement fund going.
@mrbuttman36 lol trust me im quite good with my money and numbers, ive been saving up, and my career isnt my only source of income its only one of a few streams of income including investmental and real estate. i could technically afford a lot more than just a new car. i simply choose to limit my spending to just that.
@rcrocker02 LOL, you're a funny cat, I must say. So if you already have money, wouldn't you already have purchased an M5, or a car that expensive, since you like cars so much? I responded like I did because you tied having a medical career with buying an M5: "I hope so cause with my new medical career, i was strongly considering an M5." So if you already have money in investmental" and real estate, why would you have to wait for your new "medical career" to buy a really nice car?
@mrbuttman36 i already have money but until i have a higher steady income i wasnt going to make and expensive purchases. but as i said before i WAS considering an m5 until i found out about these problems. in any case dont worry about my finances, thats my business to worry about how i spend my money. you can get a deal on a m5 nowdays with the v10, for just $35,000 range, they depreciate a lot (starting to see why too). but if i did choose to blow my money then so be it.
@mrbuttman36 in any case...im not in a rush to get it, im still considering all my options carefully before i just decide to get something. when buying something that cost a lot of money i dont just dive into it like a moron would. i calculate how i can afford it and when, i calculate a financial plan way before i make a move and make sure i know my budget, and i shop based on my budget rather than what i truly want...otherwise id be saying i want a ferrari or something.
@rcrocker02 basically what it comes down to... is while i could just run out and buy whatever....i simply CHOSE not to until raising my income level to a degree that made it a lot more comfortable.
@rcrocker02 Whatever. You're replying to me so I am being courteous and answering you. No, I would not buy an M5 at 35k. Chances are the person you are buying it from raped the clutch far worse than the dude in the video did. SMG sucks anyway. I would pay cash for cars and keep them for a long time. I have an S63, and a 2006 330 sport which has caused me little problems., It's worked out well for me, but what do I know, I only have money coming out of my ass.
Get up to 40+, shift into neutral and hold both paddles for 10 sec. That will reset the SMG logic to factory and force it to relearn the worn clutch. Next time go easy on the launch control. ;)
damn man,you have to dirve audi which is POS not a this ultimate driving machine. Audi would suit your needs as long as audi is crap and worst looking car ever.
my clutch is gone, so im going to rev it harder so itll eat into my flywheel so i have to replace both rediculously expensive parts. but then again, if you have an m5, i suppose money is no option. cool onboard diagnostics though.
ya kno... you can get it to launch without it keeping record of it...(meaning they have to cover it under warranty) my friend also happens to be my service writer at bmw dealer, he showed me that if u tap the gas pedal very quickly a few times it lets the engine rev and the car doesnt move but will rev slightly higher each time u stab at the gas, and when u r ready to go just stab and hold it and off u go!!! fun times, but they dont cover the tyres.. and they are like a $1,000! that sucked ha
I had that problem before on my e60. cost me almost $7K cost i did more then just mess up my clutch.. My e-valve went bad and that was $3k alone. Well it cost to be the BOSS.

I'm a big fan of M cars made by BMW.
I used to own a 1999 M3 with a SMG transmission but the SMG kept breaking down!!!
I spent more than $7000 for repair and it still broke down!!
Honestly, when you buy M cars you should choose a stick shift one.
Stick shift tansmissiona are much more reliable.
