  • How would i do join up in a smaller round yard and with a mare that kicks ?

  • @TheBarrelsGirl how small are we talking? are you really close to your mare when?....i would say that if she kicks out then if your using a whip like i was just make it snap on the ground or if you use a lunge line and toss the line out to keep her moving do that when she kicks to tell her it's not okay to kick out at you....just as always make sure you dont hit the mare with either tools :) hope i was of some help :)

  • This is real helpful i don't have a round pen just a medium sized pasture but i think it will still work.

  • @Scoutsbiggestfan it definatly should work as long as you cvan keep your horse working :)

  • This reminded me of a movie I watched a movie once about a horse trainer named Will Howe and he does the same exact thing and it tells about it a book series i'm reading. It's really good and i enjoyed it but there is one thing i'm unsure about when the horse is looking over the fence it's not really paying attention to you. ;) :D

  • @msMegahorselover thanks yea she gets distracted easily lol keeping her focus is something i"ve been working on in these situations but when we are jmuping she's right on the ball lol but just keep working at i guess :) thanks

  • next time try throwing your arms up in a menacing pose and 'shhh' the horse. It works so well with my horse!

  • @Cassiemunda will deff try it!

  • omg, stop clicking and use words!

  • @4EvaRusty when you rtide you click and kiss to the horse if you need to so it gets them moving. i will keep clicking because it works. maybe if you had said this in a nice way i would have taken it into consideration but just plain attitude doesn't fly.

  • @4EvaRusty Your supposed to click you have never riden before have you...

  • Great video! This taught me how to do the Join Up, thanks!! ohhh and sorta random but i was wondering if you were wearing shoes in this video? hahaha sorry but i was just wondering because it looks like you only had socks on and it was really bothering me that i didnt know when i was watching thiss! hahaha but good jobb!

  • Do you use a lunge whip or riding crop for join up?

  • Awesome! I'm gonna try this with my horse. thx!!! :)

  • any suggestions to how to do this WITHOUT a round pen? square pen possible?

  • @horsewoman23 it can indeed be done without a round pen, i have never used a square pen but maybe try putting him on a lunge line, but just so long as he i s continuously moving around you it should work just fine...round pens are just preferable for an excersise like this :)

  • @horsewoman23 I have done similar in a larger, and even a smaller area (although a smaller area is not really recommended, it could be dangerous). Granted, a round pen makes for a safer and easier to manage environment. But, if you understand the purpose and the how, it can be done even in a pasture.

  • @MotherOfManyHorses yes i have done this in the pasture too after i my horse and i had gotton a lot of practice :) but it is definatly much easier and at least for myself more effective in the round pen :)

  • Well this is a very nice vid with a lot of good info for sure! I just got a few considerations.. The first one is that you run as much as your horse, try to stand still but keep your horse moving. The second one; when you stop and look away from your horse, don't make any noise, you must stand still but you also need to be quiet. If you make noise your horse is going to come anyway but a join-up is about the horse that comes spontaneous, only then is the join up successful. Great vid anyway!

  • @xHisMind thanks for the tips...

  • thank you so much! as soon as it gets warmer, and not so icey outside, im deff going to try this with my horse! Thank you! if i have any questions im deff coming back to your vid! :)

  • @SOSCC1 glad to hear to hear it!!!! have fun! :)

  • ur horse is beautiful! he/she looks like my horse! :) I rlly want to try this with my horse, but i have a few Qs. Can i do this without a round pen? like an outdoor arena? and if my horse doesnt respond right away could he get over heated? if he keeps cantering around for hours? i dont want him to get sick...could i do this in sessions? over a couple days if my horse doesnt respond? or would that not work? sorry for all the Qs! awesome vid, i cant wait to try this with my horse! thank you! :)

  • @SOSCC1 yes you can do this w/o a round pen it is just more difficult like you could maybe try sectioning off part of the arena but it can be done :)...yes yuo do not want to keep doing this forever and ever put some effort in but if he just doesnt want to join with you yet and is being stubborn keep working at it but if he starts huffing and puffing and working up a real sweat make him do something like catch him/her and make him/her back up toend on something good and keep working on it :)

  • Very good. I cannot believe I have never heard the terms"join up". I have a mustang I have been training and now I have a baby mustang colt that is 4 months old. How old do you think the baby should be before I try this with him? I don't want to hurt his joints by lunging him round and round in the pen. How old was your horse when you started "joining up?" Your description of join up is right on and easy to understand. Thanks for teaching this old lady new terminology!! Merry Christmas!

  • @LyndaW21 hey sorry for the delay in responding lol but i bought my horse when she was 16 so she was obviously fully developed lol i dont know very much about his as i have never raised a baby but referencing to racing they start racing at2 yrs old so i would say if you didn't do it very often and not for long periods of time at least wait until he is 1 yrs old or more....glad i could be of help!!! hope you had a merry christmas :)

  • Your horse is so beautiful!! :)

  • @quarterhorselove99 thank you!!! yours is tooo!

  • good video

    Lovely horse

  • @bubblybubble10101 thank you :)

  • to turn the horse you were supposed to wait until he looks and starts walking to you or stops N0T run in front of it with a whip

  • NOOO ! Grosse erreur, il ne faut jamais, je dit bien jamais courir derrière un cheval en fesant le join-up, il te prendra comme un prédateur, et non plus comme un dominant !! Go traduire ça (:

  • du brauchst keine peitsche! ziel verfehlt, weil das tier dennoch dich mit der peitsche in verbindung bringt...

  • Jeesh, give the girl a break! She's doing the best that she can. which is pretty good. thank you for the vid! :)

  • @horsewoman23 THANK YOU!!!!!! :) there are still some nice people lefton here lol

  • Co? Koń nawet nie zniżył głowy! Pfy!

A przyszedł do niej dlatego że cmokała...

  • @Gilusiowa1 um...i'm really sorry but i have no idea what you said...i'm not even sure what language it is..is there any way you can write it in english? sorry..

  • @Gilusiowa1 alright i used google translator but anyway...that CAN be ONE of the signs it doesnt have o show because my horse just doesnt do that so i do what works forf my horse.

  • Cool video :)

  • @duskfactory001 thank youuuuuu :)))

  • That is tottally Wrong you dont Call the Horse you run the horse around till you think its time then you put your Back to them and you put your Head down and wait for them to touch you ..... then you walk and see if they Fallow with no Asking or anything

you can do one click click but thats it

  • @HoboClown999 you dont have be obnoxious and put in the "totally wrong" you could have just told me and i will fix it besides i've already been told this

  • @HoboClown999 Everyone does things differently. You do what your horse understands and ill do what mine understands

  • hey i am a true lover of this convo that goes on between horse and human and would like to try it. I was wondering do u have to keep the horse in canter when sending them away?

  • @SuperRachx the more you make them work the more they will want to stop and be like hey i dont want to do this and will see that being with you is the better choice so cantering i'm going to say might bring results a little sooner......it might not i'll be the 1st to admit i'm not an expert but i'm going to say keeping them a the canter would be the best thing to do :) i hope i was of some help :)

  • I think you got more of a work out than your horse!

  • @cowgal58 i know right lolz i gotta work on that hahaha :)

  • Ok, I will definatly try that Thanks Horseriderchamp

  • I have a question my mare dosnt come into the middle with me but yet she still follows me its just i wasl up to her do i need to chase her again if she dosnt come in the middle with me

  • @horsegirlforever100 um, i'm gonna say yes because you want your horse to give you its full cooperation. if it doesnt work and your horse follows you and lsutens and respects you all the time especially right after then i would say that is just your horses "style" but try making her go back out around and run again and see what happens. :) i hope i was of some help lolz

  • @horsegirlforever100 *listens* sorry im a crappy typer

  • @Horseriderchamp

    it isn't good join up.

  • besides u can't make any sounds, she has to come by herslef -.-"

  • @Crazyful18 i learned that earlier

  • cute horse. u don't have to run -.-"

  • IT worked on my horse THANKS SO MUCH YOUR AMAZING

  • @horsegirlforever100 welcome!! :)))) i'm so happy it worked for you :)))

  • May I suggest instead of a whip- use a long lunge line. May help keep you from running so much. Also try to stay a little more stationary- don't "chase" the horse as much as your are doing here- a smaller round pen will help you a lot!

The signals I got from watching Monty Roberts:

1.) Horse will lock one ear on you

2.) Horse will make a slightly smaller circle

3.) Horse will begin licking and chewing

4.) Horse will drop his head

Your horse is beautiful and keep up the good work!

  • @foxcreekfarmboarding thank you!!! :)))

  • VERY VERY VERY pretty horse, but ive learned that smaller rings work best, and to NOT call her to you, or talk or touch her, untill AFTER the whole join up, such as when she starts licking and chewing, and u turn your back u stay silent, then when she comes to u, dont even look at her, just walk and if she walks to u, u keep walking again, u stop, she stops, THEN u turn twards her and pet her, praise her ect; just some advise that ive learned! but NICE vid and VERY pretty horse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lionstar1938 thank you very very very much :))))))))

  • Lovely horse, you did really well but just a tip your not meant to turn around to the horse or ask it to follow you :) But otherwise its an amazing video xx well done =)

  • @ParelliTraining1 thank you so much :))

  • hahahhahaa xD

  • During join up a horse will also drop it's head then begin to chew and focus on you. Another tip, when you're lunging try not to click and flip the whip so much. Ask Majestic once and if she doesn't do what you ask, repeat it and then flick the whip and once she does what you want stop makin noise and flicking the whip until she tries to slow down. Once she shows the signs, and you turn around, you shouldn't call her. That's telling her to come, not asking her to trust you and come by herself(:

  • AMAZING!!!! I will definatly try it with my mare thank you so much!!

  • @horsegirlforever100 thank you :))) glad i could help lolz

  • i thought the hoprse had to start doing chewing actions and nostril blowing. also, arnt u meant 2 walk silently and then stop and he has 2 touch ur shoulder?

  • @Bushki1 that couldd be...but this is exactlyy how i learnedd it and it workz perfectlyy for me...so whatever workz bestest for you lolz

  • ummm... the horse is supossed to come to u and touch ur shoulder and ur not supossed to turn around until it is either breating down ur neck or touchs ur shoulder

  • @BarrelHorses17 ok thankz i'll workk on itt

  • Have you ntoiced any differance with your horse after doing this?

my family friends horse has gotten used to me now and doesn't behave! or work as nice when riding thinking of doing this today see if it changes anything or least get her respect back!

  • @snubaby there has always been a considerable difference in majestic after i do it :) i hope all goes well :))) lolz

  • whoo thats a workout!

  • @animalwisperer hahaha you're tellin' me lolz haha

  • this is good because most videos are of monty roberts doing it, but watching a few vids of normal people do it is good because it shows that itll work weather your monty roberts or not, if i had my own horse id do it

  • @alliegirljls13194 thank you so much :) :) :) and i hope you can try it because it is truly magical :)

  • @Horseriderchamp ye its like something id really love to do, it obviously is magical feeling that your horse loves you so much to follow you around with no lead rope etc, and majestic is beautiful! his name really suits him!

  • @alliegirljls13194 thank you :))) i hope you get to try iit sometime :)

  • @twilightandMilliex it should because it's an instinct coming right from the wild horses...

  • When a horse gives you what you want (when he started trotting/runnnig) you should give release and stop chasing them.

  • @PenguinPownage thanks for the tip :)

  • Was this by any chance filmed in Middle Grove, NY? Looks very familiar. Thanks!

  • @KAE8865 nope it wasn't lolz hahaha :) but diff places in new york do look a lot like each other lolz

  • Some1 Has Been Reading Or Watching WAY To Much Heartland :P Good Work Though

  • @SicklySweet1992 hahah i love heartland read all the books and watch it every sunday hahahha :) so you're right :) and thx lolz but i actually didn't learn this from heartland hahaha i learned from some Monty Roberts tapes :)

  • @Horseriderchamp Wait, Heartland has a show? Oooh, I have to record it now!

  • @dinoponyluv ikr!!! i love it!! I watch it every week!!!!

  • Good Work but there I learnt it as the for signals, at 1st they lock their ear onto you, then they lick and chew start making smaller circles, and then put their head down to the ground. Next time use a lunge line to throw near the back of them than chasing them round (just coz its easier and works just aswell) =) xx

  • @gerbilsocks thank you :) yea i've been meaning to invest in one of those hahaha :) thx again :)

  • thanks for all the feedback and for the nice manner you said it!!! :) i really like constructive critisicsm (i think that's how you spell it) but i don't like bad mouthing so thx and I will definatly try everything you told me and work on it cuz i am willing to try other things and add on if it means it will make me better!!! :)

  • @lovebitesolo yea totally...i cant remeber if i replied sorry if i didnt but yea i've done it on a lunge line

  • This is very good and im glad that it works for you. But... i suggest that when you want the horse to change directions. try to stay closer the the middle of the pen and put it more on the shoulder and they will move away from the pressure instead of putting your self in front of the horse. it will help you and your horse a lot more. when you turn your turning your horse like that it is called a roll back and when you do it you want them to turn promptly and start at the same speed or quicker!!

  • I think your way of joining up is great :) keep up the good work Rre

  • @7onelove39 thank you :)

  • ok so everybody that watches this video and wants to comment listen upp!!!!!!!!!......i know there are manyy ways to do join up!!! i do what works for me and i am giving you the way i learned it so it may help you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i do this every few weeks-to a few months and it helps keep my horse and i in tune with each other......so if anybody comments aout my vid saying im doing it wrong i am done replying because this is how i do it so don't be haitin'.

  • You stay in one place when joining up best not to chase him with the whip. There is more then just 3 signals. Your not ment to call them in. When she stopped and didn't come in that is when you chase them again. You put one arm out and they have to come all the way to your arm and touch your hand you don't turn around when they are near you that isn't the proper way of joining up.

  • @ImOnFIire thx i'll definatly get workin' on it when summer comes around haha :) thx for tellin' me :)

  • @Horseriderchamp It's ok. It sound very bitchy but just informing you.

  • your not ment to call the horse and you should keep your aggresive pose for a while longer.

  • @MaggieC568 i'm just sayin' this is the wayy i do it and it always gets my horse and i back on track...like i tell everyone else it is what works for you and the horse :) this is just how i learned it but i do appreciate the feedback :)

  • You know you're not lunging properly when you're breathing harder than the horse.

  • @TheHantard i know i have to work on that A LOT lolz haha :) i still have a ways to go but i'm improving :) :) :)

  • hello- i was wondering where you got your roundpen from? I know your in america but i want to compare some prices haha xxx

  • i feel sorry for the one behind the camera. i'd get pretty dizzy

  • Beautiful horse!

  • what can you do after a join up? why do i need it? i´m even interessted in monty roberts, just want to know, what i can do after it.

  • another is they lower their head but they dont always do this but it does happen =)

  • The third sign should be holding her head low which means "sure, I will be your friend and graze with you" not smaller circles. And you shouldn't need to tell her to stop or call her towards you or persuade her to follow you. She needs to do it on her own free will.

  • ya it is the same as lick and chew :) :) :) see it you just did join up in the pasture =] join up is very useful in many situations =] =] =] = ] =]

  • Yesterday when we went to catch one of the horses he trotted away when he saw us so we chased him away and a couple minutes later he stopped and stuck his tongue out, lol is that the same thing as "lick and chew"? After that he was quite easy to approach.

  • Hello,

sorry bath this is not the way i learned the join up, you have to push her for 5 at 6 round both sides, then you do nothing you look her in the eyes and waiting when she give the since of the join-up the your turn around en waithing for she coming, when she ther is, don''t look her in the eyes that means. GO AWAY

then you walk with her en tell you how nice she is!

  • like i tell everybody... it depends on u and the horse.... i have tried it both ways and they both work...... so its whatever u and ur horse prefer

  • This is not how i learned it. The third signal would be head-bowing. And your not supposed to call the horse to you; it has to come to you on it's own.

  • thank you very much..i' ve been trying to learn how to do this and now its made simpler!!

I'll try it at the week end and tell you if its succesful ..please subscribe to me as i've subscribed to u!

  • how do you do this if your horse is too focused on eating?

  • @KatsavesAnimals just keep pushing him...get up close dont ever hit the horse with the whip but get closer so he can get the hit to move away.....sorry if i already repliedbut im going through all my comments on this and revising them

  • ii love your horse lols

  • i thought when you stop chasing them your supposed to keep your back turned and not call to her. then when you hear them come up behind you you should walk away and if they follow you you pet them and your done. . . i think

  • @spartaeus i'm sure that's one way to do it...i just do it this but try it both ways and see which way your horse responds better :)

  • ok ok u may have a great connection w/ cocoa but the thing is some ppl have stronger connections in different ways. like when i 1st rode majestic i could feel something extremely special. so i feel i have the STRONGEST connection. so rlly the thing is how ur connected

  • I watched this video just to see. I have 4 horses. One of them, Sunbeam Camando, (Cocoa) and I have a conection immedetly when we met. I dont think anyone will ever have a conection like us.

  • Just to tell u, if u want to really join with ur horse u cant be telling her to come at the end u should just stand quite and wait. And u shouldnt be chasing her with the wipe u should be just be in the middle telling her to go.

  • @Danielle11121 once i get in a position where i can do join up again (i have no where to really work right now lolz) i'll give it a shot because i am more than willing to expand my knowledge and help my horse and i work together so thx for the feedback!! :)

  • That was sooo cool. i have a horse that isn't mine but im thinking of doing that with him. i was wondwering is magestic an arabin???

    :)

  • @MsShetland thank you and yep she is indeed...well have arabian and half saddlebred lolz just found out the saddlebred part not too long ago when her registration papers came lolz

  • TEEHEE I SHOULD DO THAT MY HORSE IS NEW AND SHE HAS 0 TRUST...oops caps

  • No you do not need a round pen. It is easier but it is not demanded.

  • do you need a round ring to do join up? the stable i go to do not have one

  • wow that is so cool :D i have always wanted to do that but i never knew how to do it right, now i just need a horse of my own :) lol

  • that wasnt too bad. But the main part you forgot (which i'm sure someone has told you by now since its been a few months) is that she needs to drop her head as if dragging her nose on the ground, that is the cue from her you did not get and you really NEED that one. All in all, it was nice.

  • @metalicrose1618 thx...i'll work on it when i get the chance :) thank you

  • ok thanx. and what do u guys think of arabs i think they r the best!

  • you are not suppose to call the horse let it come to you

  • @merjemizkool ok thx i'll work on that too :)

  • gr8 video!!! ur horse is beautiful!!

  • hey well fisrt of all i have no clue what ur doing... if u do tht you come off as if ur trying to strike at them sooo no add me an we can meet up some time

  • hey add me to ur friend list i tink i can help u out
