  • In his prime, Campbell was as good a player as anybody. Great songwriters, players, and pure musicians made music like this for a long time. Something went terribly wrong with popular music near the end of the 80's. What we have lost will never be recaptured. Enjoy gems like this one. What passes for music today is a disgrace.

  • I'm 13, and music these days look really bad compared to this. This is amazing :3 Then again, I just like old music anyway lol.

  • @flufybunn Fox News is having a special about Glen Campbell in 35 minutes.......at 9PM Central. It will re-run at Midnight - Central time tonight.

  • @shellymic I got it on now LOL.

  • @shellymic FYI, not all Fox news broadcasters cover the same thing each state has a different thing.

  • @pqboi FOX News...not FOX news "broadcasters." (I think you're referring to the FOX network. I wasn't. I was referring to FOX News Channel.) As far as "each state has a different thing." - Uh, most states have more than one local FOX affiliate...same as CBS, NBC, & ABC. Again, I said "FOX News," not FOX network.

  • one of my favorite opening riffs!!!

  • This is one of those songs that can`t help but to make you tap your feet and feel good.

  • I remember these songs as a kid on AM radio during the 70's, these songs were forgotten for years until recently. I recently heard "Galvelston", and I think I was five when I heard that song the first time, a long time ago. Songs trigger memories.

  • Hey, i grew up in the 70's and this song was on the radio stations there were no genre stations in the early 70's.

  • I don't like country music, but artists like Campbell transcend genres. An amazing piece of music here, from an amazing musician.

  • I had forgotten all about this song until i watched the clip from the grammys.

  • im 12 years old........<3 these kinds of songs. this is the kind of music i love. i get it from my parents. rather listen to this more than Katy Perry (no offense).

  • i feel so bad. Glen Campbell has alzenheimers. :(. I hope he gets better. god bless you Glen! thanks for the wonderful music that you have brought us!

  • omg!! when i was in ballet class at 5 years old, i heard this song for the first time, but didn't know what it was called!! that was the first and last time i heard this song until last night at the grammys. i remembered the song immediately and started singing to it. thats the reaction i got when i heard the long last song that i've been waiting to hear.

  • @hello12289 Same here. When I heard it lastnight it reminded me of when I was a youngster. Haven't heard this song in forever. Actually forgot about it, Used to watch HeeHaw with my grandmas every Saturday. LOL

  • @d35chae90 :). I love hearing songs that i haven't heard in awhile...especially songs like these...brings back nice memories. :)

  • I think blake shelton did a very good job last night with this.

  • Very nice! I had to listen to this after Blake Shelton sung it on the Grammys. The original is kinda disco, but it did come out in 1977, nevertheless a very catchy tune!!!

  • I listen to this dude every day....and now all the asshole grammy imbeciles are gonna jump all over this

  • @Oreeyemma yes people must be dumb when they know a good song when they hear it, and not just listen to all the newer artists that were also at the grammys the world is mad. XD

  • I can't believe I forgot about this song until I heard it on the Grammy's and all these memories came flooding back. I love it when songs and award show performances do that. :-)

  • So damn good.

  • All hail Glen Campbell, a true legend. One of the greats. Any recognition is well-deserved and long overdue.

  • nice song!! thumbs up if grammys brought u here!!!

  • @LDYize HELLL YA BRO

  • Good to hear you in the Grammys Glen :)

  • I've recently developped an appreciation for these older songs ^_^ I'm so glad I did.

  • I used to love this song as a kid

  • Great song. Thanks for posting.

  • A forever fan..........God bless and thank you for the music of a lifetime.

Your new album is brilliant. If I could get a seat at the Grammy's, I'd get two. One for me, and one for the ghost on the canvas.

  • To think this gorgeous song didn't even make it into the billboard top 20. It is still fresh and has lost none of it's magic.

  • @RideHanna

Um, this was a Billboard Hot 100 #1 Hit in April 1977. It was also a #1 on the Billboard Country chart and Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

  • Wishing Glen all the comforts he needs during his illness. Thanks Glen Campbell for the songs I sang in my car, at work or just tapping my foot, I still love the old stuff.

  • ahhh, childhood...

  • Oddly, I always associate this song with summer and Stampede time in Calgary and Medicine Hat., especially thoughts of walking through the midway on a warm night and watching all the activity and bustle. It's a great song.

  • This is a great song. Im from Virginia, so naturally I can relate.

  • @mgc5m - what a great post, I am sorry for the loss of your Grandma.

  • Did you know he was a guitar player in Ricky Nelson's band back when they did Rick's music on the Ozzie & Harriet show?

  • @Cort1963 Damn, I could've sworn that was James Burton I was watching back then.

  • @Cort1963 really!?

  • My god, I have not heard this in forever!

  • Perfect musical composition, and some people always say nothings perfect. When i hear them say it i know they don't know what the hell their talkin' about. If you can't feel "Southern Nights", i guess this isn't your lifetime to achieve perfection of some sort.

  • A great song by Mr. Glen Campbell! Written by Allen Toussaint. Reached #1 on Billboard's pop singles chart April 30th, 1977! I wonder how it did on the country singles chart?

    Nice work, Glen!

  • @ChihuahuaboyDH

They re-play Casey Casem's Top 40 Count Down here on a local station (94.5 3WS) in Pittsburgh, & this song was on just yesterday morning as he did the countdown from April 24, 1977! Brought tears to my eyes hearing all those old songs, I tell you that!

  • Great one although Glen was a jerk to Tanya Tucker.

  • I live in Tennessee Its Beautiful Here at Sun Set I listen to this All The Time At Sunset

Lord I do Anythign To have a Girl With me And her at the Sunset Listening to this

  • The future of music is as bleek and hopeless as the times we are living in. If you want to e inspired look back don,t look forward.

  • @carwile75 AGREEd.... Anyone got City of Angels ?

  • chet atkins mix????????????????????????????

  • I remember when I was 5th grade we sung this in chorus for a spring concert . The song was in our music books ! : )

    #GoodTimes !

  • Love the chord changes in this. Very unconventional for a country song.

Great video, too, by the way!

  • Iam English, but i love Glenn also..

  • You know what this reminds me of? Being six years old with my folks going to Mark Twain Days in Hannibal, Missouri. This was before gasoline cost so much that driving your family on a road trip was financially impossible. I remember the TV shows back then: All in the Family; the Carol Burnett Show; Charlies Angels; etc. The late 70s were a great time to be a little boy in the South.

  • @ebonics4everyone This reminds me of "I am a lineman for the county" oh yeah, and Glen getting good and drunk and beating Tanya Tucker's ass

  • @MissGusaroo well she shouldn't have left the kitchen.

sorry bad joke I couldn't resist though.

  • @ebonics4everyone I was in Cali. I remember standing up on the backseat of my moms '73 Gran Torino. Going to get Pioneer Chicken and this song playin!

  • @ebonics4everyone - they were also a good time for us yankees too, I grew up in the Chicago area, but still, now that i live in the south, it's pretty damn good here.

  • @ebonics4everyone Why do you have to make the South look bad, asshole?

  • I f'n love this song....always have

  • my favorite song by glen

  • what happened to the Jerry Reed Glen Campbell version ? , that was really great ..

  • .........Wish I could stopt his world from fighting, Profound!

  • @TheAithWONDER and prophetic

  • Brings back memories

  • 2:06 is my favorite scene. Luv this song! Reminds me of being little :)

  • kgw in portland ore, great song!!

  • I remember hearing this song on the radio all the time in the fall of 1977. GREAT TUNE!!!!!

  • I, too remember it from my youth on WGRD.

  • Glen was very popular back in the 70s',good songs easy listening.

  • Good Graphics!!!!

  • GREAT SONGS like this bring people together. This was recorded when there were still great musical ideas around. The mark of a great song is that it can be recorded by a variety of artists in a variety of genres. This was the first version I heard. I only heard Toussaint's original a few years ago. I love both. Toussaint's version is very quiet and introspective. Glen Campbell, though, he struck a nerve because he made this song ANYBODY can dance to and people are usually HAPPY when they dance.

  • Nice but maybe a tad too much from Beatles, "Martha my dear" etc.

  • @SH67 ...BUT IT'S DIXIELAND(???)

  • @SH67 This is an Allen Touissant composition, an American Mozart in his own way. And his work predates the Beatles by almost a decade. Think about it for a minute.

  • @jkoff76 Good for Allen Touissant. This was US number one in 1977 by Mr Campbell. A very nice song still as I said and goes to show how some styles of music never go out of fashion.

  • @SH67 I agree !

  • @SH67

Sorry, I don't hear anything like " Martha " in this song...are you smoking something ?

  • @QueenReigns1 I only smoke tobacco and not very often at that. Otherwise I can't help you.

  • you can hear this music everywhere, i'm from Austria and it's just fine drivin' around and listen to this masterpiece of easy listening. thanks Glen!

  • the beauty of this song: the truly poetic lyrics written by the legendary Allen Toussaint

  • Free ?!?

  • song with soul is my answer..

-and I have heard a lot of music without like today...

  • Thanks Paul, wow this takes me back...brilliant track from Glen Cambell best wishes always ...Ann:))

  • not a bad song

  • my dad used to listen to this, classic

  • timeless classic they dont make these songs much off this time

  • timeless classic

  • LOL go to the smoking gun and look at glen campbells mugshot

  • I don't get it. Glen is great sometimes, and the song is great, but this sounds like a guitar player playing and singing along with a home keyboard - from the disco reggae at the beginning to the inappropriate jazz banjo... WTF?

  • @msbfd if you heard this on a real sound system it would sound infinately better....it's hard to tell if the producer sucked or not listening to it on youtube

  • his music never grows old! its like a fine wine as it gets older it only gets better!

  • I think of Alligator Point a lot listening/meltin' to this. ;)

  • Classic song, classic voice... thank you Glen! and thank you katydidscorner!
