In his prime, Campbell was as good a player as anybody. Great songwriters, players, and pure musicians made music like this for a long time. Something went terribly wrong with popular music near the end of the 80's. What we have lost will never be recaptured. Enjoy gems like this one. What passes for music today is a disgrace.

You know what this reminds me of? Being six years old with my folks going to Mark Twain Days in Hannibal, Missouri. This was before gasoline cost so much that driving your family on a road trip was financially impossible. I remember the TV shows back then: All in the Family; the Carol Burnett Show; Charlies Angels; etc. The late 70s were a great time to be a little boy in the South.

GREAT SONGS like this bring people together. This was recorded when there were still great musical ideas around. The mark of a great song is that it can be recorded by a variety of artists in a variety of genres. This was the first version I heard. I only heard Toussaint's original a few years ago. I love both. Toussaint's version is very quiet and introspective. Glen Campbell, though, he struck a nerve because he made this song ANYBODY can dance to and people are usually HAPPY when they dance.
