@lisduggan64 Power play always requires certain amount of egoism , despite all his actions who could deny his legendary status ? Who could unite rome , like he could and bring peace and developments to Rome like the Caesars do?
@coolasacoldsummer are you on drugs? Caesar is the root of all your white supremacy horseshit - he and his kind have inspired racists, nazis and idiots who don't understand we are all from Africa - some of us just got bleached along the way and forgot our roots.
it doesnt have the same epic battles, scenery or effects as Rome , but the story is actually better than Rome
Yes it has Patrick Stewart in it playing a right nasty snake.
Claudius has a fantastic storyline which follows the Octavians wife Livia killing off different members of her family to secure the throne for her son.
the best way to view Claudius is to think that your watching a play as opposed to a multi million $ HBO production
But lets not confuse the fact that in the begiining romans were largely of italic descendents and that includes the army. Yes later this was not the fact. Why don't you state the facts as to when rome intergrated the army.
I'm not trying to make this an italian thing but to say romans weren't italian is just a lie, Romans were mostly italians until they started giving citizenship to non romans(italians) and started using non Romans into the army. Rome became america
Caesar didnt unite the empire, he actually divided it more than ever (Populares and Optimates) playing the everyday people against the senate. He created a civil war and was killed by the senate. Also when he died the empire was in turmoil.
@JacksMannequinLover Quite, however, his actions paved the way for the Principate, and the Pax Rommanum, something which would have been impossible without him.
@JacksMannequinLover Populares and Optimates were already divided before Caesar thats why they are two different groups! @ImperialGuard9001 your an Idiot, I guess Nazi's and germans aren't the same thing?... first off, how much do you really care about hair color, secondly, this makes caesar look like a good man and a great hero -bah! show no respect, there was obviously a reason why 60 people decided to kill him - and dont say it was just a movie. ive learned about this in school and i read the book
60 people decided to kill him, because they envy him and what he had done. Why? 1- Caesar was the best and most brilliant general in the history of Rome..2- The fact that he had the intention of taking the power from a bunch of rich families who though themselves as gods (the 60 "people")) to distribute it equally to the people, not only in Rome, but in the rest of the empire.
While people like Cassius may have been greedy, Brutus had good intentions killing Caesar. And btw, movies change everything. I'm sure there's a movie out there that makes Columbus look like a hero too. And Augustus was greatest.

The cross was around long before Christianity. Rome, Carthage and Persia used crucifixion as a form of execution since roughly the 6th century BCE in 337 CE Emperor Constantine I abolished crucifixion in the Roman empire out of veneration for Jesus Christ
Rome from HBo is a great serie, but not for history at school. You can best watch Ancient Rome from BBC, or the film Julius Caesar from wich this trailer is made!
HBO Rome is a great serie, but not for history at school. Shakespeare's version isn't good either. You can best watch Julius Caesar(2003), from wich this trailer is made! Or Ancient Rome(2006)
Yes, you're right. That's my opinion, too. If the European states want to save their high position in the world, they have to found a united Europe. This is the only key to future!
Long live Europe! Long live Napoleon! Long live Caesar!
Do you know of any movies that tell the tale of Julius Caesar? I need to watch one for a class I am in at school. If you know of one or even more that one please let me know.
1. "Rome HBO" (series about Rome, the Roman Empire and a lot of Julius Caesar. Very good!)
2. "Julius Caesar" (1953, with Marlon Brando, adapted from Shakespeare's drama. I haven't seen it yet. Some scenes are on youtube. Their really good;-)
From what I remember, Rome had no dictators unless they were appointed by the Senate in times of crisis. Caesar himself was appointed dictator in the latter stages of his career. I'm sure there are a bunch of people who are better informed, but wouldn't his opening remarks technically be incorrect? However, we do lack the context in which he was speaking. Maybe he was talking about Sulla... ?
"From what I remember, Rome had no dictators unless they were appointed by the Senate in times of crisis. Caesar himself was appointed dictator in the latter stages of his career".
You are correct. Caesar was appointed dictator for life. Besides Caesar the most known dictators were Sulla and Fabius Maximus Cunctator - the one who fought Hannibal without engaging him in any battle for years.
I think he was the best ruler of a nation in Ancient World and Rome was the most organized empire in the world. I am Macedonian and I think Julius Caesar was a better leader then Macedonia's Alexander. I am especially fascinated by the technologies the Romans developed for uses in peace and war such as roads and aquaducts. Greetings to the Italians (Rome) and everyone who likes Caesar
Absolutely. If you like history and particularly Roman Empire history you should definitely read McCullough's series. There are 7 books most of them having more than 800 pages. I have read 4 of them. I started by the fourth book (spanning the years 67-59 BC) and last month i finisfed the seventh and last one (spanning the years 41-27 BC). Now im looking for reading the first three books concerning mainly the wars between Caius Marius and Sulla.
Do you know of any movies that tell the tale of Julius Caesar? I need to watch one for a class I am in at school. If you know of one or even more that one please let me know.
Just reading the 12 Caesars by Suetonius and it's nothing like any of this they were all interesting but pretty twisted. For most people it was slavery, and for a very few it was perverse.
Be glad they mention Sulla at all... I find that most who try their luck with Caesar often forget contextual characters like Catilina, Sulla, Publius Clodius, etc.
Do you know of any movies that tell the tale of Julius Caesar? I need to watch one for a class I am in at school. If you know of one or even more that one please let me know.

the art of movie trailers
-get music with violins and a choir
-flash vague yet meaningful words across the screen

-end with a REALLY long fade out to the music

Rome from HBo is a great serie, but not for history at school. You can best watch Ancient Rome from BBC, or the film Julius Caesar from wich this trailer is made!

HBO Rome is a great serie, but not for history at school. Shakespeare's version isn't good either. You can best watch Julius Caesar(2003), from wich this trailer is made! Or Ancient Rome(2006)
from BBC.

AVE CAESAR! Europe need to be UNITED like in ROMAN TIMES! WE NEED A CONTINENT THAT IS UNITED, BOUNDLESS AND FREE!
PETROforever 2 years ago
Yes, you're right. That's my opinion, too. If the European states want to save their high position in the world, they have to found a united Europe. This is the only key to future!
Long live Europe! Long live Napoleon! Long live Caesar!

Do you know of any movies that tell the tale of Julius Caesar? I need to watch one for a class I am in at school. If you know of one or even more that one please let me know.

Hi,
I know some:
Their really good;-)
I hope, my advice helps you. Greetings!

And I forgot: "Julius Caesar" (1979), another version based on Shakespeare.

PS: : sorry about my english :(

Don't worry, your English is fantastic!

Jeremy Sisto was perfect as Julius Caesar. So hot!!!

I agree with you. Have you read Colleen McCullough's series about the fall of the Roman Republic?
LordVoldemort1987 3 years ago
No unfortunatley I haven't read McCullough's series. Although assuming you have read them, would you recommend the books?
unknownpker 2 years ago
I strongly recommend you read this series.

Just reading the 12 Caesars by Suetonius and it's nothing like any of this they were all interesting but pretty twisted. For most people it was slavery, and for a very few it was perverse.

Never seen it but it looks good, though the depiction of Sulla is all wrong(he was'nt that old!).
Gourandor 3 years ago
Be glad they mention Sulla at all... I find that most who try their luck with Caesar often forget contextual characters like Catilina, Sulla, Publius Clodius, etc.
AemiliaPaulla 3 years ago
Yeah, not to mention Cato, the younger, Caius Marius or Cicero.
