  • I'll be honest.

II Mvt. - One of the best I've ever seen. (Except that little hiccup)

    I Mvt. - Almost tasteless.

I personally would have gone MUCH softer for the first movement and changed all 4 mallets for the second movement.

I understand how much work went into this performance and its overall really good. I wasn't trying to degrade your performance

  • What's with the tip-toes and high wrists at the end? haha

  • @Drumbreak1 Softer sound.

  • this is really neat. My Percussion teacher went to the eastman school of music. Andrew Fuhrman.

  • Quite impressive. I enjoyed the performance.

The Marimba One instruments are usually up there with the best made. They have a lot of great features with a reasonable price. If you want to hear another good marimba, check out Kori. They're not heavily advertised in the states, but they're really nice as well.

@Roadside7035: Why do you have to be ugly? There are pros and cons to each grip, and these have to be weighed for each piece.

  • Are you in a music school now? Eastman perhaps?

  • oh and they're the Zeltsman series. I also highly recommend.

  • 1. Its a Marimba One, great instrument. I recommend.

    2. I used Stevens grip, and personally I don't think crossed grip would be the easiest choice for this piece, but I'm sure someone could do it if they tried. Post a video so we can see!

    3. I was a senior at Lake Oswego high school

  • were you in high school?!

  • I have heard people sound incredible on every brand of marimba using burton, cross or stevens. It's all about whats best for you

  • Pretty sure those are Zeltsman mallets, and to all of you guys arguing about what grip is better, I would like to just say get a life. Who cares about who holds their shit which way? I personally play Stevens but I won't get in your face if you don't. People are so stupid, quit wasting your time arguing with people you don't even know, and you will never be able to prove which grip is "better." Spend time getting marimba chops and less time arguing about grips on youtube

  • Why does everybody use Steven's grip? I like Burton's grip for this kind of music.

  • Why would you prefer Burton grip for this? If it were something like Merlin, then I would say yea Burton grip might better. This piece (and most of Burritt's compositions) use a LOT of rotations, which is generally considered to be easier with Stevens.

  • @XBeebsX - Because Steven's grip is mainly used for marching bands and indoor percussion ensembles. The best marimba players mainly use Burton's grip or cross grip. I also just prefer the feel of Burton's grip over Steven's.

  • dang dude, well done! i've never actually listened to this until now, but i knew it was a really cool solo. i love all of the rolls in the first half

  • malletech she-e-wu 3's would have been perfect!!!! too bad they dont make them anymore.

  • Are those the Keiko Abe mallets?

  • The Abe's are white and don't come in birch. His look a lot like the Nancy Zeltsman mallets from Encore.

  • Ahh yes, October Night!! Had to play this for my full faculty jury. The memories!!

  • Marimba One is easily my favorite brand of marimba. I think theyre the best out there.

  • Marimba One is superior, but malletech makes terrific instruments as well.

  • not only was it an excellent performance, but great mallet choice. it was perfect for the instrument in the case of rolls and harsh articulation where necessary.

  • It's a Marimba One. Great brand. I think it's the M3000 series. M1 has excellent customer service. I called there when I was shopping for a 'rimba and Ron Samuels (owner) picked up the phone. They do custom voicing throughout the entire range of the instument. I didn't buy it, but it's definetly worth looking into

  • respect...

what kind of marimba is it?

  • Woo Hoo thats a marimba!!!

Wish we had that for Transmigrations!!!

    Sounds AMAZING!!! :)
