The Marimba One instruments are usually up there with the best made. They have a lot of great features with a reasonable price. If you want to hear another good marimba, check out Kori. They're not heavily advertised in the states, but they're really nice as well.
@Roadside7035: Why do you have to be ugly? There are pros and cons to each grip, and these have to be weighed for each piece.

1. Its a Marimba One, great instrument. I recommend.
2. I used Stevens grip, and personally I don't think crossed grip would be the easiest choice for this piece, but I'm sure someone could do it if they tried. Post a video so we can see!
Pretty sure those are Zeltsman mallets, and to all of you guys arguing about what grip is better, I would like to just say get a life. Who cares about who holds their shit which way? I personally play Stevens but I won't get in your face if you don't. People are so stupid, quit wasting your time arguing with people you don't even know, and you will never be able to prove which grip is "better." Spend time getting marimba chops and less time arguing about grips on youtube
Why would you prefer Burton grip for this? If it were something like Merlin, then I would say yea Burton grip might better. This piece (and most of Burritt's compositions) use a LOT of rotations, which is generally considered to be easier with Stevens.
@XBeebsX - Because Steven's grip is mainly used for marching bands and indoor percussion ensembles. The best marimba players mainly use Burton's grip or cross grip. I also just prefer the feel of Burton's grip over Steven's.
not only was it an excellent performance, but great mallet choice. it was perfect for the instrument in the case of rolls and harsh articulation where necessary.
It's a Marimba One. Great brand. I think it's the M3000 series. M1 has excellent customer service. I called there when I was shopping for a 'rimba and Ron Samuels (owner) picked up the phone. They do custom voicing throughout the entire range of the instument. I didn't buy it, but it's definetly worth looking into

I'll be honest.
II Mvt. - One of the best I've ever seen. (Except that little hiccup)
I Mvt. - Almost tasteless.
I personally would have gone MUCH softer for the first movement and changed all 4 mallets for the second movement.
I understand how much work went into this performance and its overall really good. I wasn't trying to degrade your performance

Why does everybody use Steven's grip? I like Burton's grip for this kind of music.

Are those the Keiko Abe mallets?
CaptainYutube 2 years ago
The Abe's are white and don't come in birch. His look a lot like the Nancy Zeltsman mallets from Encore.

Marimba One is easily my favorite brand of marimba. I think theyre the best out there.

Marimba One is superior, but malletech makes terrific instruments as well.
