My doctor actually recommended I do the same today -- and that getting it "cut out" or poked with a needle can actually make it worse. Sometimes the old fashioned folk remedies are widespread for a reason, I guess! My husband just smooshed my 8-year-old ganglion tonight. Took a little bravery, but I was glad to get the OK from my doctor (she said smacking it with a book is exactly what SHE would do if she had one)!
Dude , I had one of those and it had to be surgically removed. The book is gnarly cause you can break the bones in your hand plus you have tons of nerves that run thru your hand.... next time just sharpen a straw poke it in and suck it out..... lol

@damyus You'll want to use a scalpel for sure, a pin or needle wont be big enough to give the infection a proper exit, and chances are you'll just end up agitating it further. Needs to be sliced open, can't just make a small prick like that.
