@Cecilink60 It's annoying, but I'd rather have the game with no knife than not have the game at all. Plus it was already re-rated by ESRB, so I think whatever version they rated would be what we got... but I don't have my hopes up anymore. NOA doesn't care enough that we want the game to actually try and make it happen. /sigh
The main reason why Nintendo doesn't release it on the VC is all of the legal trouble they'd get into. A quick google search should reveal many legal issues with Earthbound, and Nintendo would likely lose more money than they earn releasing for the Virtual Console.
@FireJigglypuff2310 It doesn't change my mind, still seems to me they aren't trying to make it happen. If they're worried about copyright problems, then at least try to get permissions. If they had of, I think we'd of heard about it. Or they could push NoJ harder to let them change it just enough so they could release it without worry. I know loyalists will hate change, but it's worth minor changes to have the thing released.

Not everyone has a working SNES and is willing to pay upwards of $40 for a copy of Earthbound, you know. I don't see a problem with it being released on VC. What's wrong with getting more people into the game and generating more fans and a bigger fanbase?

So would that catchy little tune for when you fight weaker enemies. And that's not all, a lot of other things would need to be changed/removed, thus removing a lot of it's charm.
Ruining the originality, no, that won't happen, Earthbound is a game that RPG haters AND lovers can both love. Ruining the charm, yes, that would happen.

@Gotmilk0112 Actually, yes, copyrights. The main reason stuff like this made it in the SNES version was because back then, the internet wasn't available and/or widely used.
One search on something like Wikipedia or Google would give companies who own the originals to stuff like Johnny Be Goode (of which this is a remix) plenty of reasons to sue Nintendo, which would be bad. Then there's the fact that companies are a lot more sue happy than they were in 1995.
@masterkokiri9 Yeeeaaah, no. Just because Wikipedia/Google didn't exist doesn't mean people could get away with anything. Internet isn't the only way of communication, you know. Someone could easily write a letter, call a phone number, ect, for a copyright infringement report.

Some of the biggest things got changed, like Red Crosses in the Hospitals (Red Cross is very anal about the use of their, well, Red Cross), the Runaway Five were too similar to the Blues Brothers I believe, among other things.
But more obscure things like this made it in because they were obscure.
Anyways, on the subject of letters and stuff like that, as I said before it'd take a long time for them to get to the companies and chances are, it may not reach them. And besides, I doubt the head of a record label would notice get this game and notice that this is an unauthorized remix of Johnny Be Goode (just an example).
But now that the internet is commonplace for companies, it'd be much more dangerous for Nintendo to re release this.

They could sue Nintendo of copyright reasons for EB being released on the SNES if people wanted too. And since nothing has happened, then i don't see what the problem is.

@Cecilink60 It's annoying, but I'd rather have the game with no knife than not have the game at all. Plus it was already re-rated by ESRB, so I think whatever version they rated would be what we got... but I don't have my hopes up anymore. NOA doesn't care enough that we want the game to actually try and make it happen. /sigh

The main reason why Nintendo doesn't release it on the VC is all of the legal trouble they'd get into. A quick google search should reveal many legal issues with Earthbound, and Nintendo would likely lose more money than they earn releasing for the Virtual Console.

@FireJigglypuff2310 It doesn't change my mind, still seems to me they aren't trying to make it happen. If they're worried about copyright problems, then at least try to get permissions. If they had of, I think we'd of heard about it. Or they could push NoJ harder to let them change it just enough so they could release it without worry. I know loyalists will hate change, but it's worth minor changes to have the thing released.

@Gotmilk0112 For the same reason Ford would ruin the classic mustang era by rereleasing a 1968 ford mustang fastback. Would it be cool....sure....but its a common thing for things that are re-released. It ruins the originality of the game. If you want to play the game...buy the original, generally speaking. Plus...with emulators as well, why even hope for a vc release? It would just ruin the game. Super mario world...kirby...Thats reasonable. Earthbound....NO

Not everyone has a working SNES and is willing to pay upwards of $40 for a copy of Earthbound, you know. I don't see a problem with it being released on VC. What's wrong with getting more people into the game and generating more fans and a bigger fanbase?

@Gotmilk0112 Because a lot of things would have to be changed in order for it to make it on the Virtual Console. For instance, this music would have to go. So would that catchy little tune for when you fight weaker enemies. And that's not all, a lot of other things would need to be changed/removed, thus removing a lot of it's charm.
Ruining the originality, no, that won't happen, Earthbound is a game that RPG haters AND lovers can both love. Ruining the charm, yes, that would happen.

@Gotmilk0112 Actually, yes, copyrights. The main reason stuff like this made it in the SNES version was because back then, the internet wasn't available and/or widely used.
One search on something like Wikipedia or Google would give companies who own the originals to stuff like Johnny Be Goode (of which this is a remix) plenty of reasons to sue Nintendo, which would be bad. Then there's the fact that companies are a lot more sue happy than they were in 1995.

@masterkokiri9 Yeeeaaah, no. Just because Wikipedia/Google didn't exist doesn't mean people could get away with anything. Internet isn't the only way of communication, you know. Someone could easily write a letter, call a phone number, ect, for a copyright infringement report.

@Gotmilk0112 Actually, yes, that could happen. But it'd be much harder to get throught to the companies since there's probably be like billions of letters to go through.
Some of the biggest things got changed, like Red Crosses in the Hospitals (Red Cross is very anal about the use of their, well, Red Cross), the Runaway Five were too similar to the Blues Brothers I believe, among other things.
But more obscure things like this made it in because they were obscure.

Anyways, on the subject of letters and stuff like that, as I said before it'd take a long time for them to get to the companies and chances are, it may not reach them. And besides, I doubt the head of a record label would notice get this game and notice that this is an unauthorized remix of Johnny Be Goode (just an example).
But now that the internet is commonplace for companies, it'd be much more dangerous for Nintendo to re release this.

Earthbound is an RPG that both RPG lovers AND haters can love, there's no way in heck you could ruin that kind of originality.
