I just got my Dixon low D in the mail today too.. I've been playing other whistles (Waltons, Susato) whistles this is my first low D , do I have to breathe different or what? I'm getting alot of squeaks, any advice would be appreciated... Thanks ; )
hmm maybe the holes need to be covered better, or if your getting squeaks on the lower notes (that is, it's jumping up to the higher octave) probably you're blowing too hard
I looked on a a whistle website, I guess I was doing everything wrong to start with, my fingers were all wrong and I was trying to hard... its starting to sound better now... thanks for the advice --- you were right on about the holes...
This is a not an easy song to play at first! I underestimated it,, I love your vibrato ... well done,, (I have some trouble maintining steady air flow in the high octave with the Tony Dixon ... gues it needs more pressure ..) Anyway well done, I'll post a video reply on this song soon ... ;-) Cheers - Hélio
Really etherial, I love it. Just a touch of reverb always goes nicely with the whistle because its an instrument that has no natural reverb. Keep them coming.
i really like it, i just got my dixon low D today in the mail, and It sounds great ... you have really nice technique, it sounds funny sometimes when i go into the high octave.
Hey! I just want to return the nice comments you shared with me. I love this tune. I find it just amazing. And you play it so very well. Keep up the beautiful work! I haven't posted anything in a while...I have been moving to a new house. I will post something new in a few weeks. Take care!
oh, glad to hear it! :-) i love the mellow, flute-like tone of the dixon, i found that it needs a little more air than i'm used to at first but with practice i'm getting used to it
Do you mind if I ask you how tall you are? I'm 5'3 with smallish hands. I am just worried that even with "piper's grip" I won't reach. You look petite, though, so maybe there's hope for me!
oh, i'm actually slightly shorter, about 5'1 (i know, i'm short). do you play the piano? my hands are just big enough to reach eight notes, no more (i often wish i had longer fingers ^^) but this low whistle isn't a problem for me, (precisely why i chose it) the piper's grip works just fine,
I don't play piano, but I checked and I can reach and press 8 keys easily. I think you've convinced me to buy the Dixon. Thanks for replying! Oh, and your playing is very nice!

Wow that's wonderful haunting. I particularly enjoy where you choose to shorten notes to breathe, it's very consistent and rhythmic.
