The movie that Walton's story is based on (Fire in the Sky) is the highly fictionalized version of what actually happened. The movie totally leaves out the human-looking aliens that Walton saw on the craft.

I was thinking more that after the traumatic experience, one rationalises it as being an alien encounter and then this effects the thinking of the rest of the group. The mind can be a very powerful thing, ever heard of mass hysteria? Compulsive liars? What abotu placebos? They can actually trick the brain into boosting the immune system.

@MsMariah61 As I was saying, as humans we find it hard to understand probability. For instance, the chances of you being born were 1/60000, but remember that your dad's chances of being born were also 1/60000 ad infinitum. That seems impossible that we were born if we look "backwards", but it clearly wasn't impossible becuase you are here. I don't think it wasn't aliens, all I am saying is, when a claim like this is made we need to look at alternative answers, remember occam's razor.

@MsMariah61 To say there is no way is to say it's impossible. I was pointing out that, mathematically, it is still possible just improbable. REmember though, the 5 people all said that they seen him abducted by a bright light, not that they seen aliens. Also remember that they could all be deluded in some way - all see a light, one rationalises that it must be an alien - all of them believe it because they are all in a close-knit group

The Uncle of my soon to be wife had something close to this happen to him. I have never been told the full story. I've only been told the short story. Nobody in her family doesn't believe it to be a lie, and a few close family friends also believe it to be true. Everybody that knows her Uncle and the story, believes him. Others just say, well he is a good man who just had a breakdown.

@VIKING33NY Have you seen his episode of The Moment of Truth? Its a game show where a person is asked questions that are either prooved false or true by a polygraph test. He was very nervous the entire episode and then the test said he was lieing about being abducted. His reaction to this only further leads me to believe he's lieing. @theMixBandit of course, silly me thats why they are admissible in a court of law. travis has passed over a thousand lie detector tests over the years, he's a logger not a secret service agent. i have an open mind about this case and the sheer number of people claiming the same phenomena statistically cant all be lying, delusional, sleep paralysis etc etc. Lie detectors have been used in these cases and they have caught people out like stan romanek. look that one up.

@davpea1 Actually, lie detector tests occasionally don't work. I agree that it's very unlikely, but there certainly IS the probability that all the lie detector tests failed them, a slim probability.

@davpea1 True but they could also cheat on those detectors as well. If they were taking drugs before hand it would have had a effect on the results. Again not saying nothing did or did not happen, yes he was gone for 5 days, no one can account to where he was at. But there could always be a reason it just does not need to be Aliens, I believe life is out there but until the visit earth and they are revealed to the whole world then manny things could of happened to him.

when you are asked a question, your mind begins to think ,
when you think the lie detector starts to work.
when you are lieing your mind thinks of the lie and then thinks to tell a lie.
you think too much.
when you are telling the truth you don't have to think as much, you automatically say it. you dont have to think if it is a lie or not you know it is the truth.
you just have to have a clear mind.

@903harman As a person is questioned about a certain event or incident, the examiner looks to see how the person's heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and electro-dermal activity (sweatiness, in this case of the fingers) change in comparison to normal levels. Fluctuations may indicate that person is being deceptive, but exam results are open to interpretation by the examiner. This is how a lie detector works. It does not really tell if u r lying

@903harman The exams are not able to specifically detect if a person is lying. But there are certain physiological responses that most of us undergo when attempting to deceive another person. By asking questions about a particular issue under investigation and examining a subject's physiological reactions to those questions, a polygraph examiner can determine if deceptive behavior is being demonstrated.

Influenced, of course, by his guess, based upon what he has heard about you, and deductions he draws from how you appear and act. Everyone thinks himself quite shrewd at detecting liars. That "you can't fool me" attitude explains why first-rate con men work best on bankers.
