  • Like the song and the lyrics 'you'll go to hell' lol

  • Reminds me of Heart.

  • Had a great time listening to this.

  • damn this is hell of the song !!!

  • Increible banda, una de las precursoras del metal, su disco salio un año antes de Black Sabbath e In Rock de Deep Purple.

  • FUCK THIS BAND

also Fact: Witchcraft and Satanism have nothing to do with one another.

  • @enteroverusedjokehre Says the "know it all".....care to share this "knowledge" you have thinking they are not the same. Your facts are messed up. Satanism has ritual, Christianity has ritual, anything religious has ritual...and it could all be considered "witchcraft"...a prayer is no different than a channeling....der d der....

  • @ShaolinDragon9 epic_facepalm.jpg

  • @enteroverusedjokehre FUCK YOU. Fact: Fucking, and you have nothing to do with one another.

  • @Hister333 Fact: My dick in your moms vagina have something to DO with one another. Bitch.

  • @enteroverusedjokehre How could you? My mother was born without a vagina, and both she and I have overcome great adversities just to be here today.

  • @Hister333 You poor, poor dear. Can't she just get a vagina transplant? Man, I can only imagine the hardships your poor, poor mother and yourself, have had to face!? I feel the incumbent need to help out, in some way? Tell you what I'm willing to do. I will, from this day forward, go on a search for an extra, and PREMIUM QUALITY, vagina! I'll feel it out for you too. Ya' know, kinda' like take it for a test drive, kick the tires. That type of thing. I'm just an altruistic kind of guy, I guess???

  • @chad7chad1 Okay. Just make sure it can pass an emissions test.

  • Hey I use to have the promo album, now it's lost somwhere in Seattle.

  • Cool stuff! Never heard of them before. Thanks for posting.

  • WHO DO YOU THINK YOU'RE FOOLIN'?!

  • Satanic crap

  • @obadiah650 Satanic? Possibly. Crap? Absolutely not!

  • @fretburner18 well... its a good tune and everything but its still satainic

  • gee whiz inverted cross in 1969

  • sencillamente espectacular... hail coven

  • the evil version of Jefferson Airplane

  • @ter50 HAHA!!! I was thinking the same.

  • This song is so fuckin good. I love Jinx.

  • love miss jinx,she rocks

  • ehehe coven rules fuckers!!! :D

  • So, what I'm saying is, I'm sure the sign would've been used in connection to music numerous times prior to Dio, Sabbath or Coven.

  • Actually, pretty sure the 'devil horns' sign is a rather old Pagan sign. I know that in Italy, it protected the person from receiving the 'Evil Eye', a superstitious curse.

In other circles, the sign is used to represent or invoke The Horned God (no, not 'Satan', but Pagan Gods like Pan, Cernunnos, Herne etc).

  • Does this mean sex with the bitches is better on drugs ?

  • back when the bass was louder than the guitar...

    good times x)

nah, my mom was just born when this came out, but I really have to say: it's a shame, that the bass drowns in modern songs :(

  • Is this reprinted on CD by any label? I cant find a copy of it anywhere :(

  • @modplugrad can't post links here, but go to cafepress . co . uk / jinxcoven - Jinx runs it herself, you should be able to pick up a copy there. But hurry, because I think she's stopping production very soon.

  • @DB557 Just checked. It's on the amazon.

  • @modplugrad try to give a look on sanpasqualeent blogspot ;)

  • @MrPlasticSmile Cool! Thanks man :)

  • @modplugrad keep on followin' sanpasquale ;)

  • @modplugrad Just to add my bit, a bit of looking 'round suggests it was released on CD (and repressed on vinyl) in 2003 by the Italian label Akarma. Not sure how easy it is to come by, though.

    Hope that helps somewhat!

  • @Bobarob1 Much appreciated! It seems that it will be tricky to find but its good to know that it does in fact exist! I haven't given up quite yet :)

  • @modplugrad You're welcome! I'd recommend checking out Discogs and Rate Your Music if you ever want to check if a release exists, between the two of them they have pretty much everything covered. Discogs also has a marketplace which can be handy for picking up rarities (but also try GEMM and MusicStack). I'm always hunting down vinyl and CDs, so I know what it's like trying to find certain items! Searching dedicated sites is more effective than just Google :)

  • @Bobarob1 Thanks! I'll try and check out those sites next time I cant find a CD anywhere. I dont have the most obscure tastes, but it does happen now and then sadly :(

  • @modplugrad No worries. My tastes run from fairly mainstream (AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Metallica and the like) through to NWOBHM and space rock, which can be very obscure. For me, though, it's not necessarily trying to find releases by obscure bands so much as finding obscure pressings of more well-known bands, like the 1993/1994 Japanese CDs of Saxon's first five albums (the best quality versions). Got 2/5 so far haha.

  • @modplugrad What I will say is, if you use Discogs, it is wise to check prices elsewhere on the other selling sites I mentioned, because some sellers do take the p*** with prices on occasion. But that's usually with new, common releases, for older or rarer pressings you'll have to expect to pay a high price. Good hunting!

  • @Bobarob1 Thanks :) And yes, I have seen outrageous prices on Amazon UK as well. Just knowing that its not impossible to get a particular thing makes it less frustrating to be a CD junkie.

  • @modplugrad Some of the prices from Amazon Marketplace sellers are simply theft, and anyone falling for those prices need checking out. The absolute *most* I'll pay for a CD is £35, and for that it has to be extremely rare and in top condition. Like, exceptional. Rare vinyl I'm prepared to go higher for, depending on the circumstances.I know what you mean, though, knowing you can get something makes it that little bit easier to bear.

  • Ah, that Jinx´s drive!!!

  • fuck i cant stop hearing this song

  • The guys name was Oz Ozbourne!

  • Why am I just now discovering this band? This is proto metal at its finest.

  • occult hippies ! fuck yeah !

  • This broad sounds like grace slick, only she's hotter. Great name, cool titles, but the music stinks.

  • Every great and "epic" band in rock has stolen from someone. They always steal from the controversial.

  • Comment removed

  • @The6degreeseparation Correct!

  • @95TheDeftOne I'd rather be associated with Coven's satanism than be associated with Billy Jack...

  • @Hister333 Sorry, I don't know who or what is Billy Jack...

  • @95TheDeftOne Really? Type Coven One Tin Soldier into youtube.

  • I should point out, as some people are too stupid to get it, that all this talk of the 'sign of the horns' is about its use in rock music, not outside of rock music. The hand symbol itself has probably been used for god knows how long. It's not hard to think of raising your outer two fingers and keeping the inner ones down, is it?

  • @DB557 the origins of the 'horns' are of Italian gesture

  • SLAVA SVETOVIDU, SLOBODA ILI SMRT, NIKAD KRST!!!

  • Ah fuck; they got horns raised man, yeah; I thought Dio invented that.

I now see where the band "Acid" has gotten their influence from.

  • wow es genial!!! :)

  • i don't know how guys find this song is black metal, it's a great song but not black metal though.

  • Jinx Dawson, together with F(the voice of Satan) from THE DEVIL'S BLOOD are physical manifestations of the Mighty Godess of Darkness and Light!

  • I want that skull...I NEED that skull! Wicked Woman-you'll go to HELL!!!

  • Another proto-metal classic from the mighty Coven-perfect for rituals and invocations!

  • Killer acid psych rock and amazing lead vocals! My fave Coven tune - cheers for this ace post! ☺♫☆

  • Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Jimmy Page and Stevie Nicks all owe a debt to Jinx Dawson and Coven. Gene Simmons claims that he invented the 'devil's horns' salute--he said so on the CBC a couple of years ago. What bullshit. Coven did a number called 'Black Sabbath', had a guitarist named Oz Osbourne, and Jinx obviously influenced the look and posturing of Ozzy Osbourne as much as Iggy and Morrison did. Tony Iommi denies any knowledge of the band--look for the interview (1986) on YouTube....

  • @jannyrcobs Jinx Dawson didn't invent the devil horns. She was probably the first to flash them on stage but it is an ancient symbol used by many different cultures. Alice Cooper was performing before Coven and Sabbath at the same time. Black Sabbath got their name from the Karlof movie. Tony Iommi more then likely didn't know of Coven, in 1968 he was in Burmingham England jamming with Sabbath. Coven was not very well known and still aren't. Great band though.

  • @jannyrcobs: That is pretty insane. Why would no one want to admit any familiarity with Coven? Because of their satanic association?

  • I wonder if Jinx Dawson still french kisses skulls?

  • I think Jinx would beat the shit out of Stevie Nicks...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 Only because Nicks is also old now. ha ha. J/K. Love Jinx.

  • Her voice is pure magic.

  • This album needs a proper re-release via CD/LP with liner notes/unreleased promo pics, etc.

    Would be absolutely killer!

    -l-

  • @Hellthrasher word!

  • Yes! Sooo underrated (at the time), ignored, probably dismissed solely due to the Satanic aspects... Jinx is up there vocally w/ Grace Slick,Joan Baez. (if not better)... "Lady O" is as good as anything Linda Ronstadt did! That's OK cuz Jinx is OURS! W/L/R

  • genial!

  • GET IT AAAAAALL OVER MEEEEEE

  • it seems they have raised horns in the pick 1:26 ..isnt't it supposed that this one was ''invented'' by Dio?

  • @TheArzetlam yep, according to Jinx it was Coven who first made the sign, and this LP seems to confirm it. Dio first did it when he joined Sabbath, I think.

Coven were the first to do quite a few things it seems, in some ways they were real pioneers.

  • @DB557 THE BEATLES YELLOW SUBMARINE came out before COVEN'S album and it shows John Lennon making the DEVIL SIGN. COVEN sounds to me like if JEFFERSON AIRPLANE went evil. BLACK SABBATH'S song BLACK SABBATH was a pioneering song. The band BLACK WIDOW was around the same rime as COVEN and BLACK SABBATH as well.

  • @clintbronson5 er.... what?

  • @DB557 In Martin Poppoff's book, Black Sabbath FAQ, there is a chapter that deals with Coven. Jinx claims that her family was involved in the occult, and she was around the horns from the time she was a child. She says her family didn't approve of her using the sign publicly as it was a secret society thing. She points out that Dio's version is an Italian sign greeting meant to ward off evil, with the fingers pointing forward. The true "horns" point straight up. I hope that helps.

  • @clintbronson5 John Lennon makes a "peace" sign with his index and middle finger on that cover.

  • @Sidus666 That is actually false. Look closely.

  • @Jasonconfused Right, you're right. Still, the Yellow Submarine came out in 1969, while Coven were opening their live shows with the sign of the horns as early as of 1967, according to Wikipedia.

  • @Sidus666 Really? Wikipedia says that Coven started in 1969.

  • @Jasonconfused It says, but you have to bear in mind, that it states the "years active", mentioning 1969 as the first date, because that's the year the first album came out. Here's a citation from the wikipedia article about Coven:

"She, Ross, and Osborne formed Coven in Chicago in the late 1960s. In 1967 to 1968 they toured (...) Dawson began and ended each Coven concert with the sign of the horns, being the first to introduce this hand sign into rock pop culture" Sorry, had to cut it a little

  • @Sidus666 That's really interesting. You would think "years active" would include touring years.

  • @Jasonconfused True, i think it should be pointed out in the discussion section.

  • @TheArzetlam maybe you supposed that it was "invented" but the story is that dio made it popular in the metal scene... and thats a true story

  • @darkgrindgo this band didn't invent the horns they were just the first band to start using it on stage and whatnot. dio made it famous. and if they're a satanic band what's up with the inverted crosses? even the pope has an inverted cross on his chair. the story goes, (peter or paul i cant remember which one) was about to be crucified but he asked to be crucified upside down because he didn't feel worthy enough to die the same way Jesus did.

  • @Hamburgers585 The inverted cross in the LHP ( Left hand path ) represents that you are against the lies and false teachings of the Church. Also the sign of the horns is a greeting in a LHP secret society. Jinx had seen it done many times by relatives, and started to mimick it...Also there is a photo of her as a baby doing the sign of the horns wearing an inverted cross.

  • @Llewbeanie so the pope is against the church?

  • @Hamburgers585 In Catholicism the inverted cross represents humility. Just as it is in Episcopalian nature. Peter whom was crucified inverted is considered the first Pope of the church. There is a clear distinction between the two.

  • @TheArzetlam dio didn't invent it, but he made it popular

  • @TheArzetlam I think many people get "Popularized" with "invented"..

  • @TheArzetlam Many people seem to mix "popularized" with invented these days..

  • @TheArzetlam Dio didn't invent the horns,he also said that,he just made it popular...

  • @TheArzetlam I have seen many Dio interviews. Dio did not "invent" the devil horns hand sign. All he did was make it EXTREMELY popular. When you see people at a concert waving the devil horns, think Dio. Without him, it wouldn't be so popular.

  • @TheArzetlam no... The devil-horns sing has been in he world way before rock music was created. It's an ancient symbol !

  • @TheArzetlam sign*

  • @TheArzetlam Yes, but whats more important is in that photo, are that the men are grabbing her ass, and thats much more interesting than them "throwing up the horns" haha.

  • @TheArzetlam Ronnie James Dio also invented warm water... .

  • @DamhertGent no I'm pretty sure that would be Gene Simmons. Anyway, great song, great band, gotta buy this CD soon :D I love her voice to death, like Grace Slick but with a bit more aggressive (satanic) tone.

  • @TheArzetlam The horns were not invented by Dio or Coven but Coven probably were the 1st to use it in rock music but never made it popular Dio is the one who made it popular and he didnt copy coven because his italian grandmother used to do the sign. Coven never used it that much, however Dio used a lot.

So Dio was the one who used it in live performances and all that.Coven just used in some pictures But other people already used 'em before Coven so imo Dio was the 1st to really use it in music

  • @TheArzetlam ..Its the Italian "malook" to ward out the evil...its been around since..uh...a long time

  • Love the lyrics of this song......

  • Best song!

  • Heavy! Jinx is quite the vocalist!

  • Clowns

  • Amazing song.

Love the voice and what a total babe she was/is!

    -l-

  • Not only is this album my favorite of all time and the template for all metal and occult rock, but this song just really does it for me. I could listen to this track forever.....Hail Coven and Jinx Dawson.. .our Queen forever!!

  • You'll go to Hell!!!

  • @deadlune3 That's what the lyrics say. I don't really think they give a damn about the disposition of their immoral souls. >:)

  • Jinx is a Queen...Best track from the first Vinyl !!

  • @69FuckYouBitch69 so is Coven In Charring Cross. d(:

  • hail SATAN true God.

  • Anyone ever notice that the old "devil" music is the best? Coven, Warlock, Early Sabbath, Early Ozzy, Early Crue, Samhain. We need new devil music. We got some fucking walls to break down. It's prime time for it. Release the beast, goddammit.

  • Early Crue? Y'mean Motley Crue? Are you fuckin' retarded? Devil music? Y'mean Shout at the Devil? That wasn't satanic in the LEAST bit. Even less, it was AGAINST satanism!

  • I don't know what motley crue you were listening to, but the motley crue I remember was not against satanism. They handed out leaflets about how to set up a satanic alter at their concerts, including the nine satanic statements and other basic info about the c.o.s. The 1st release of shout at the devil had a big grey inverted pentagram on a black background, but they changed it because the christian church was starting to get the general populace all scared of that shit.

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i;m so stoned

  • im so stoned

  • Where did you get the second image of Jinx with the skull from? Do you have a high resolution version by any chance? I want to get this painted on the back of my leather jacket.

  • just go to the coven myspace

  • amazing! simply amazing!
