bill I'd really like to hear about your own opinion..you know tablets began to dominate the world as personal computers to people we all can't tell how PC gaming is going to be by late 2010's, we know everything has an end but do you think gaming desktop will remain among the tablet domination?
Just ordered my parts to mod my case with these exact instructions! Question: Is the hole saw you're using a typical hole saw, or are these particular saws for cutting metal?
sweet im getting a Silverstone Raven Rv1, but it does not have enough fans but looks amazing =D ill be adding 2 120mm fans to the back as well as 2 120 mm fans behind it for a radiator =D
@aiexbadboy, Yes for fan holes, but for fan screw holes, I recommend using drill bits made for Plastic. You should be able to find these at hardware stores or online. Otherwise, a standard bit will twist and crack the plastic
Another great vid from mnpctech. Makes the whole process so much less risky when you've got someone to follow/ Even for seemingly simple jobs its good to know what you're up against in advance.
I'm planning on installing a fan on the front panel which is plastic. Question here is - do I use my rotary tool, or the drill and hole saw like in this video?
@cyber8000, same method, but spray a little bit of WD40 onto the material first, to help the cut more efficiently, Thanks for watching and commenting!
Airflow question: Are side fans really necessary? I removed mine because it was making a low yet annoying noise due to vibration (it didnt disappear even with rubber grommets), I record acoustic instruments so that was a real problem. I put it as a bottom fan instead and now I am thinking of making a side window (to cover the side holes and also because it looks cool). Should I add a side fan in the window? or is it better to add top exhaust and be fine with the bottom and front intake? Thanks
Man I just wish when thermaltake first built the armor case that they just made a 120mm fan on top for exhaust. That or they didn't put that cruddy top plastic thing on it that terribly blocks airflow and put something else that looked just as nice.
Nice but you had to have taken off the 90mm fan holder to screw it on being it's right in the way. Unless that was something you have to attach which I could have sworn it was already installed up there fan and everything when you get the case.
have u ever created a front bezel from plastic using a vacuum former, i was looking at my old cruddy dell and it looks really crappy so i was thinking i would mod it with 3 80mm in the front and 2 on top and a couple in the back if possible (u can get 10 80mm for 13 bucks free shipping from newegg) so what would i have to do to mod the plastic front bezel i only need to have space for a single 5.25 inch bay
thx for the help
check my channel for the for the vacuum former vid, in favs
hey bill can we use this same method for plexi glass side panels or is there a different method and if their is a different method can you please show us
did u use a lian li case panel for that? Which case cause the case im looking at has holes as a vent and i would like to not have holes to vent so i can do what you sort of did.
Just a few extra tips: Use oil to lubricate the circular saw, dont let the saw cut all the way through in one go, but rather stop when the cut is halfway the plate (specially when the plate is thicker ) and finish the hole from the other side. This way you avoid a nasty burr. I missed the pasrt where you show/tell what direction you fan will blow to, before you screwed it on. :) For the rest, love the vids, keep m up.
NOTE: using a hole saw on a steel case (rather than thinner aluminium), you'll need the proper "metal" cutting hole saw and not your typical "wood" hole saws. The latter will not work, will wear down and make a whole lot of noise on steel panels.
Most people at my pc community site they use a jigsaw and saw between the lines and after that they file it to a circle. This is so much better. I guess every modder should have it.
Would this method also apply to perspex? I'm looking at possibly doing a custom side window job to my Antec 1200 (Similar to Tjharlow's work), however I at the same time want to postion a 120mm fan to run over and cool the GFX card(s).
