  • can I do that if I weigh 230 pounds???? XD lol.

  • Se nota que TAMA debe haber puesto unos cuantos dolares, no solo por el pantalon con la marca sino porque uso como batidor un parche que es resonante, obviamente porque el batidor nunca trae la marca de la bateria...

  • I use relatively loose spring as well. I think a lot of new drummers equate a tight spring with speed. Would you be fast with tight tendons in your hand? Cheers.

  • @ascetic43 i prefer tight tendons and a quick nervous system

  • @jusesaro My bad, my dude. I misunderstood your comment. I'm so used to people popping s for no reason that I over-reacted. My bad. Cheers.

  • @jusesaro hahahahaahah

  • @ascetic43 No problem. Just stating a fact. Do you disagree that I use relatively loose springs? Or that new drummers ten to equate "speed" with tight springs? *Would* you, in fact want rigid or tight tendons in your hand when you were trying to drum? Or was it "cheers" that offended you? Lets' try again: What's *your* problem, pal?

  • cual es su problema????!!! xD

  • I have done this to my 24" bassdrum head. It really worked. Didn't quite jump as hard as Simon does. But it helps to stretch out the head. Gives you a lead in the sound of the head.

  • i really don't undestand why he jumps on the head, he can really damage it. the best video for bass drum tuning is the video from EVANS with bob GATZEN.

  • caramba... yo no salto asi sobre mi premium...jejeje aunque los parches evans aguantan mucho....

  • Word to the wise. If you value your drums, then it is not adviseable to stand on your bass drum head like that. He should have really told of the pitt falls of standing on the bass drum head. But I guess he knows what he's doing. But still.

  • Recordaré traerme las toallas del hotel...jaja

  • very very very very OLD METHOD...

the best way to tune the bass drum is to use the right head, REMO POWERSONIC or EVANS EMAD. it works but its very very old...

  • que significa drums en espñol?

    PS: I'm not spanish

  • Drums = Bateria

  • @maggotvenger94 drums = bateria ^^

  • ok...now i think he really crossed the limit

  • I will never jump on a head... I mean...Come on after you stretched with your hands....you don't need to jump on it, at least you are a very small person...

  • fucka..

  • haha sheraton

  • I stretched my bass drum heads like that. Except I just stood on my and kind of lightly bounced on it cuz it's a 20 inch. It really does help stretch it out and keep it in tune. I've never torn or busted a head by doing so.

  • i want jump

  • Does it really works??

  • ye, thats how i used to have mine until i got a small bass pillow which does the same thing. I just plonk it in there!

  • A couple of days ago I tried that bass drum trick with the towel and all I have to say is I'm never going back to blankets and pillows!! and I find my pedal action 95% improved! it pays to experiment! thanks Simon!

  • I like how he rolls the towel like a giant doobie!

  • I literally yelled HOLY SH!@ when he started jumping. That is so bad for the drum. Especially for the poor bearing edge on the other side. MAN!!!

  • Do you seriously think a legend like Simon Phillips would jump on the drum if it is bad? He's always tuned his bassdrums like this and they always sound amazing.

  • Of course I do! Even Dave Weckl admitted to tuning his drums incorrectly by tapping his sticks directly on the bearing edge and eventually preventing those drums from being able to ever tune accurately again.

Sure, his drums sound pretty good to me, but I think he should stop jumping on his bass drums. Just my opinion.

  • Yeah!, Do you think he has to pay for his drums?? He probably gets a new set every year..

  • Is dangerous because he get his drums for free and get paid

  • shut up

  • i DONT like the way he speaks but jus my view

  • he's english

  • are the school band bass drums lol

  • chupatetete

  • i love how he cleans the head and then puts his dirty shoes on it lol

  • hahaha he obviously didn't want his shoes to get dirty from all the fingerprintstains on the head! ;)

  • buenas calzas clavo

  • asi de simple!!!

    muy bueno!

  • muy bueno grande simon .

  • Im surprised he dosent tune in the "star" pattern.

Seems like youd have some uneven tension tuning one after another

  • i almost had a heart atack when i saw him jumping on that bassdrum XD

    oh my god

  • I've tried to do it this way one day.. and my base sound really amazing.. This is my favorite way to tuning my base..

I also stand on my base to stretch it up... And i never went to a head before... (maybe because i was to affraid to jump on it, because my base is smaller than Simon's base..)

  • This is early 90s and Simon STILL does this and his drums sound great!

  • yeah, i'm sure if i tried seating the head the way he does, it wouldn't end well!

  • Anyone know where I can get track pants with the Tama logo like simon is wearing? I've tries searching Google with no luck.

    Will

  • i'd use his tuning technique...but without the tights

  • simon is an excelent drummer and he has the most amazing way for tunnig the bassdrum, he is my favorite drummer and bezise he plays with toto one of the most great bands of all times :D

  • love when he just jump on it, and love that air sound that bass drum have when you're lay on it(yeah i use my bass drum more like a chair than actually a bass drum, sad but true)

  • ....nice...i thought i only tuned that way. opposed to the star pattern.

  • nice pants

  • OMG wow jumping on your drum!

  • My dad used to work with him, he said hes a real nice quiet guy

  • you are the best simon I see you in the concert of bilbao and I have you re stikcs I see you when I see you (if I see you)bye

  • me da miedo saltar ....

  • excelente.! ya afine mi bombo a la perfeccion simon philips es el mejor..!

  • year? :P

  • 1994 Simon phillips Tutorial Demo.

  • He is very funny xD

  • haha... no need to buy a trampoline.

  • my bass drum would snap if i jumped on it! lol :D
