Se nota que TAMA debe haber puesto unos cuantos dolares, no solo por el pantalon con la marca sino porque uso como batidor un parche que es resonante, obviamente porque el batidor nunca trae la marca de la bateria...
I use relatively loose spring as well. I think a lot of new drummers equate a tight spring with speed. Would you be fast with tight tendons in your hand? Cheers.
@ascetic43 No problem. Just stating a fact. Do you disagree that I use relatively loose springs? Or that new drummers ten to equate "speed" with tight springs? *Would* you, in fact want rigid or tight tendons in your hand when you were trying to drum? Or was it "cheers" that offended you? Lets' try again: What's *your* problem, pal?
I have done this to my 24" bassdrum head. It really worked. Didn't quite jump as hard as Simon does. But it helps to stretch out the head. Gives you a lead in the sound of the head.
i really don't undestand why he jumps on the head, he can really damage it. the best video for bass drum tuning is the video from EVANS with bob GATZEN.
Word to the wise. If you value your drums, then it is not adviseable to stand on your bass drum head like that. He should have really told of the pitt falls of standing on the bass drum head. But I guess he knows what he's doing. But still.
I will never jump on a head... I mean...Come on after you stretched with your hands....you don't need to jump on it, at least you are a very small person...
I stretched my bass drum heads like that. Except I just stood on my and kind of lightly bounced on it cuz it's a 20 inch. It really does help stretch it out and keep it in tune. I've never torn or busted a head by doing so.
A couple of days ago I tried that bass drum trick with the towel and all I have to say is I'm never going back to blankets and pillows!! and I find my pedal action 95% improved! it pays to experiment! thanks Simon!
Do you seriously think a legend like Simon Phillips would jump on the drum if it is bad? He's always tuned his bassdrums like this and they always sound amazing.
Of course I do! Even Dave Weckl admitted to tuning his drums incorrectly by tapping his sticks directly on the bearing edge and eventually preventing those drums from being able to ever tune accurately again.
Sure, his drums sound pretty good to me, but I think he should stop jumping on his bass drums. Just my opinion.
I've tried to do it this way one day.. and my base sound really amazing.. This is my favorite way to tuning my base..
I also stand on my base to stretch it up... And i never went to a head before... (maybe because i was to affraid to jump on it, because my base is smaller than Simon's base..)

This tunning technique of the 80s sucks... I use Aquarian drumheads.... those are the best and the sound is like a heart beat... and I have nothing inside the bass drum... Evans are good to... check them out
simon is an excelent drummer and he has the most amazing way for tunnig the bassdrum, he is my favorite drummer and bezise he plays with toto one of the most great bands of all times :D
love when he just jump on it, and love that air sound that bass drum have when you're lay on it(yeah i use my bass drum more like a chair than actually a bass drum, sad but true)
can I do that if I weigh 230 pounds???? XD lol.

the best way to tune the bass drum is to use the right head, REMO POWERSONIC or EVANS EMAD. it works but its very very old...

I gigged with him in the old days, he was such a nice guy.
I have found another extraordinary british talent, but this time in the form of a 16 year old guitarist.
I came across his music channel the other day, his name, is Stephen Fiorentini.
I believe he has MASSIVE potential to become something big.
If you type his name into the search, a couple of his songs will come up.
I seriously suggest you view it, he could become the next best thing.
