I'm glad the movie made that great old hymn popular with a new generation. Churches actually don't sing it much anymore. (I bet few modern Christians have ever sung it!) But its words are profound. It's a prayer to be closer to God ....no matter what it takes. Even "a cross".  It was a great song for that movie.

This is because all the survivors were in the lifeboats and they did not stick around long enough to hear it. And the 6 who were pulled from the water probably would not stop to listen.
