@65bits hi nice vid! i just bought it ! but curently its in windows 6.1... how can i update to 6.5? there is no update icon in the internet page of my phone..
@mrmajorpsycho Thanks for your compliments! We hope you subscribe to our channel!
You can update your phone by visiting samsung mobile [.] com. Pick the country you bought your phone from, and visit the support page to look for instructions to upgrade your phone.
i have verizon and i need to upgrade my phone now cuz the 2 years is up so i get the discount, do you know how much the phone will be after the discount?
hi, i'm thinking of getting a new phone... is the omnia2 better than the jet? i was thinking of getting the jet but then i saw the omnia2 and got confused. there's a big price difference... is the omnia2 worth the additional price tag? hope you guys can help me. thanks and great review! =)
I got similar problem like you before but I bought the omnia 2 because of the bigger screen 3.7 inch compared to jet which is 3.1 and one thing I dont like in jet is its Samsung's proprietary OS compared to Omnia 2's windows mobile is is very customizable.
thanks for the reply billionmilejourney, was kinda leaning on getting the omnia2 now but the big price difference is giving me second thoughts. but i guess it's worth it in the long run. another question, i've read in some comments that the omnia2 windows os frequently crashes.. have u experienced the same with your unit?
hehe pinoy pala... good! ic, so promo ng samsung siguro mo nakuha yung unit kaya may free pa... wala na ata ngayon free e. i went to mla's cp capital "greenhills" ; around 27k ang 16gig and 25 naman yung 8gig with 1yr. samsung warranty na. i think 8gig is good enough and may option for mem card upgrade naman. thanks for helping me decide... mukhang mas sulit nga talaga omnia2. =)
yep. Christmas promo yun. Medyo mahal ng konti d2 kasi andito ako sa Bacolod. Yung omnia 2 makakasupport ng up to 32 gb micro sd. :) pag gusto mong iimprove ang interface at speed pwede mong i tweak kasi windows mobile. hehe. goodluck sayo pre. :)
hehe . . I just said that when I bought my omnia 2 last december I got a free low-end unit worth $60 :) and the preinstalled windows mobile 6.1 is not good but when you upgrade to 6.5 the omnia will be more responsive, then my unit only crash when using crappy downloaded third party apps. :) I dunno if in your country they have pre installed windows mobile 6.5
I was going to go for the Jet but then I found out it doesn't have windows mobile on it, just their TouchWiz software instead! So I wouldn't be able to use many apps, if any. So the Omnia II is now my choice.
yep, Jet is not a smartphone though its slogan says "Smarter than smartphone" and that is one of the reason why I didn't buy the jet they are using Samsung's proprietary OS which means hard to customize unlike windows mobile. Well I'm waiting for windows mobile 7 which will have a lot of cool features I guess. :) . Goodluck and choose wisely
No, it will be just like the iPhone. You will either have to pay for internet or sign up for a mobile plan that has internet bundled together, which is the case on the iPhone. It's not free even for the iPhone.
@InteligentMan The lag is because of win mobile 6.1. You should check out a more recent review of the phone with win mobile 6.5. Lag is GONE!!! But Touch HD 2 is a great phone too, albeit more expensive, and cumbersome.
Yes I saw some reviews with 6.5 and is really fast! I'm gonna get this one because u can't see the ugly face of WM any more and of course great display! All the best to ya ^^
i just want to say that you guys consistently give GREAT reviews. You always touch on the important subjects and usually get to the nitty gritty. I would however like to hear more talk about cpu speeds too.
Thank you so much for your complement! We're really encouraged by that!
We decided that our job isn't to compete with other publications out there but to complement them by providing our viewers the ability to see the gadgets in real time, so we usually deal with the experience of devices more than benchmarking them.
Also, in my experience, a faster CPU doesn't mean faster device when it comes to smartphones cos every UI/OS demands differently. Best way to judge is still to see it for yourself
Hey I finally bought my omnia 2 here in the Philippines, and its an awesome phone. The lag dosn't bother me at all, and if WM 6.5 really solves that, then would just wait for the upgrade. I tried sending pics using bluetooth but somehow, it doesn't allow multiple pictures to be selected and sent. I ended up doing it one by one. Is it me or is there something I'm missing here?
this transition in samsung jet suppose to be has 123 option but only on and off in my new samsung jet. you can find this trnsition when you go to settings...display and light.....then transition effect......
if you want to see the video just type on youtube search the word...samsung jet transition
Hi guys.. have you had any hands on experience with the Omnia 2 with WM 6.5? I've seen a few videos of the Omnia 2 with 6.5 and it seems to have corrected the lag of the phone.
Nice review, btw you said that the jet´s screen is better due to the 16M colors support, while omnia 2 has only 65k. Is it really big diffence or not? For example when you play movies (divx, xvid) how does it compare to jet or other mobile phones? Also, isn´t the OLED display supposed to be scratch resistant? (i saw one scratch in your review)
That really depends on you. Personally, I can't tell the difference. To me 65k is more than enough, and 16m is just a bonus.
As for scratch resistant, that's what Samsung claims, and I believe it's more resistant than others, but if you try hard enough, I'm sure you'll be able to scratch it. Secondly, that's not a scratch but a sticker stain :P
1)you said something about the colors but i didnt understand..this phone has 65k because of the windows 6.1 ?? if the new winmo 6.5 allow 16m colors, the phone can show 16m then ??
2)do you thing that the problem of being laggy can be solved by updating the firmware or its hardware problem so no solution can be found??
What we meant is that theoratically it should be able to support 16 million colours, but because that's not mentioned anywhere, most likely it won't, even with 6.5
Yes, it could be solved by the firmware, but that depends if Samsung is willing to. They might choose to just release a Omnia III, for example, that is smoother.
i hope that they are not thinking of releasing a new omnia 3 as an immprovement of the omnia 2 because that would be ridiculus!we were waiting for so long to release the omnia 2 as a "perfect" phone and you say now that it may have unsolvable promblems??what can i do know??which phone should i buy??
What I meant to say is that every phone has imperfections. EVERY phone. It's up to you if it's big enough to bother you. Personally, I don't see any major problems in the Omnia II. I don't even think the lag on the Omnia II is that significant, and it's something you can easily get used to.
If you're looking for a perfect phone, then I'm sorry, there's no such thing.
I personally preferred the Omnia 2 because I felt that Windows Mobile is a lot more mature for touch screens than Series 60. Plus the virtual keyboard on the Omnia 2 is a lot better than the one on the Omnia HD.
The user interface and the user experience has been tremendously improved, making the phone overall a lot better to use than the previous model.
If the mouse option and d-pad matters a lot to you, then I'll have to disappoint you and say that based on your special requirement, it's not better than the original Omnia.
Based on this newer UI, there isn't a need for the mouse or d-pad, and based on our usage, it's not a feature that most users will miss.
nice review.. but keep it to one person at a time. The person at the back, interrupting all the time is annoying... and frankly redundant... more reviews thanks
well done on the preview but maybe u can put the phone on the table instead of holding it because im feeling dizzy watching u swaying it all over the place.
I would like to ask a question. how do i go about switching the solitaire game to the landscape layout? i saw some youtube demonstrations, they press the "cube/camera" button at the right hand side of the hp but when i try it, not successful. it either switch to the cube function or the camera but not the landscape function. could u kindly tell me how?
I'm seriously considering this phone over HTC Touch HD cos apparently, now Omnia 2 is on offer with starhub, and HTC keeps on getting more and more expensive... used to be $268 with 2 yr plan... then $500+, then now its $700+... zzzz
Good review guys, look forward to your future gadget reviews. For viewers in the USA, there's a rumor this will be out for sale by BESTBUY under Verizon contracts on August 23, 2009. Again this is a rumor, not comfirmed yet. I hope it is true, I would like to trade in my Omnia i910 for this even though I'm sure Verizon will destroy it with their crapy software.
