I like how he uses fresh tomatoes compared to some other videos that use canned tomato sauce. However...I can't help but wonder...with as many ingredients that are in the rice...can you really "taste" them?
he is just damnn awesome!! i love his cooking...!!! i jus love em... bt one thng aint clear here... he says add chopped "green chillies" here bt the thng he added actually looks like "green capsicum"... can anyone plsss verify it? n lemme know?
@anuluck92 Actually what he has used is Serrano peppers, they are larger than the usual Green chillies from India or Thailand.. they are spicy. what the Vah chef has used is certainly not Capsicum. I hope that clarifies your question. happy cooking!
@anuluck92 well you may not get the exact same thing, But you can definitly use the usual green chillies that you get in India, Infact the ones from India have a better flavour. You have better luck being there let me assure you.
u r my inspiration when i was married i even dont know how to make a simple cup of coffee after following ur show i have started cooking and nw i have become perfect in cooking and my husband loves it...u r simply superb.......... u r the best chef i feel.......

@MrsBhawnakhanna1: Yes, all the ingredients for tadka are optional. Adding urad and chana dal makes it crunchy. Some people add the full urad (not the split one) instead of the split urad dal. Try variations and see what suits your taste. Where I live I also get the full chana dal, I use it. Tastes just as crunchy.

I am a college sophomore. I came home today evening quite tired. Mom's been urging me to cook off late as she was away with dad. Suddenly I got this thought of giving ma bro( who's with me) & ma parents (who were away) a real surprise! So I turned to youtube for some instant Tomato rice recipes (my fav.) Thats where I bumped into this really useful Video by Sanjayji. For a beginner such as myself, the video was enough to cook a tasty Tomato Rice which I finally did! Thank you Guruji!! :)
I really like his cooking but Mr sanjay can you help us make food with out using so much fat in it because elder people like +50 will die of cholestrol, but better than kfc mcD and rest of it
I am from southern India (Bangalore) and love cooking. I just moved to France and really enjoying your cooking class. I tried many things and came out very well. Thanks for this effort of posting, which is really good of sharing cooking knowledge.
@sonne2 It is not a show. He does this on his website. We can buy DVDs. I bought the popular DVDs you can go his website and see all the shows for free and learn. He is good and show all these for free. I love his programs. Makes it so simple and enjoyable. In fact I started cooking and I enjoy so much.
@anilbobbili I am sorry for some reason I thought he is Tamil guy. Adding hinge in most of his cookings goes with Tamils. He mentioned in one of the videos that his mother made something which is common in Tamilnadu. Wherever he is from he is simply great. By the way, I am a Telugu guy too (Nellore). Thanks for the info.
@juneg1964 No issues...his name is Sanjay Thumma and originally from wesrt godavari dist . Initially even i thought he may be from TN but tahts not the case. I agree. everything he says li'l bit, pinch and I used to feel oh that's more. So I stopped listening to what tsp or tbsp he says, I look at how much he adds and does accordingly.

How many grains of rice? I can't fit too much in my kettle...that's why I can't cook boilded eggs for my guests (I like to prepare them a dozen boiled eggs) Cos they havn't got good manners and can't eat cups of cake and slices of tea with knives and forks, they is so common!

Hi sanjay, i really like all your recipes and the simplicity of your presentation. i never have to consult my mom anymore .cooked the tomato rice today. all loved it. thanks a lot for this moment.
I have made tomato rice many times in the past few years, but it was just my version of the recipe. The little extras (garam masala, cashews, red chilli, hing, ghee etc.) were never there in that recipe. Just now made tomato rice with Sanjay's version, and it turned out truly Tomato Rice! Thanks Chef!!
P.S: I love the way he cooks informally. Thanks to umpteen 'cooking' channels, cooking has come to being a display of cooking ware than actual cooking. Here he sticks to the basics. Awesome.
