  • Damn, I knew he could play guitar, but I didn't know he could fuckin PLAY.

  • is that sam moore singing????

  • No, it's Ray White.

  • thanks, i'l check him out

  • going to see these guys in a few weeks :)

  • Me too! Can't wait!!! =D

  • that kicked ass

  • this is probably my favorite extended guitar solo..EVAR!!

  • yeah man!

i saw dweezil play this in the shepherds bush empire last night. it was possibly the best gig ive ever been to :)

  • I'm STILL waiting for the current tour to come to my town.

    How's the new vocalist dude?

  • hes amazing seriously hes like spot on :D

  • I was at Shepherd's Bush too. It was an ace concert - brilliant musicians and the new singers great.

That kid who was plucked out of the crowd to play Dweezil's guitar to Willie The Pimp must've been well chuffed.

  • yeah i know haha highlight of his life :)

    he was liek ten O_O

  • Zappa has been dead for years!

  • ...yet very alive!

  • Someone got a DAMN good seat!

Maybe I'll see him next year; just wish I were born in time to see the original Mothers in concert. D:

  • anyone know if theyre gonna come back to New England this year?

  • i kick myself to this day for not going to any of these shows in dallas.

  • ZPZ will be back someday.

Today is 2-17-2009, and we are still waiting for the third tour to come to town. There is a west coast run, then DZ heads off for Japan, Australia, Europe and the British Isles. I would guess Summer 2009 would be the earliest that they would be back in the USA.

  • Yea i checked and they've yet to post those dates (maybe haven't made 'em), but i just hope when they do come back that some of the old regulars will be there, like Ray, NapBrock, Vai, even though i doubt it.

  • ZPZ is going to be on the Progressive Nation tour this summer. No dates posted yet, but they're playing with Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, and Beardfish.

  • Thanks for the tip!

  • who is the singer?

  • He's Ray White. Wiki him. =D

  • i went to this concert. amazing. love frank but have to say it better acoustics at nokia theater

  • Yeah, I was also at both shows. I enjoyed the second show more than the first, but then again, I was on the front row! =D

See you at the next show (whenever that is...).

Still waiting for the announcement of the tour date in DFW.

  • wow.. if anyone plays like frank its DZ!

  • Dang right!

  • motorpsych0, thanks a million for posting this! Awesome!

  • You are very welcome, UncleAron!

    Music is the BEST! =D

  • eheheh that little pimp!

  • Ah oh ih!Dwezil?O_o

  • Ah oh ih! Dweezil! =D

Yeah, that's what I wanted to say!

  • D: Why did the make it only 5:30? The original song is over 9 minutes :(.

  • You'll have to ask DZ that question. =D

    Perhaps a time constraint?

    BTW, FZ rules!

  • Bah. Still sounds great though. Love this song :].

  • because noone, not even dweezil, can match franks awesomeness and solo for that long straight!!

  • actually frank didn't improvise the whole solo, to make it long and complex, he used a musical technique called "xenochrony"

  • i knew he didnt improvise it all, i meant that noone can play as good as him :) and ive never heard of xenochrony before? what does it mean?

  • He wasn't using this technique back then. Not only that, I think it would have gone against the whole vibe of the album.

  • Well, I think he did very well.

  • this song has such an awesome groove live, i saw them like 2 weeks ago

  • I can't wait for the tour to come to my town!

  • FRANK BEEFHEART

    CAPTAIN ZAPPA

  • Captain Frank,

    Beefheart Zappa!

    It's all good! =D

  • seen em in north carolina

it was fuckin awesome but everyone was sitting down... except me and my friends

show some respect for a great man!

  • @Gabe4208 Sometimes the best respect you can show is sitting, and listening to brilliant artists like this play.

  • @DavidKinner, I saw them on the first tour I think in 05. Now let me preface this by saying I'm too young to have seen Frank, and I've been to a lot of shows but Zappa Plays Zappa was the best I'd ever seen in my life! Dweezil did a FANTASTIC job of nailing his father's tone and vibe.

  • @shred5 Have you ever heard Dweezil's older solo albums too?! He is an amazing guitarist in his own right too! He's perhaps even more underrated than his father. Too bad him, and Beefheart couldn't have gotten together before his passing also.

  • @DavidKinner, I have Automatic and I've heard bits and pieces of other albums. He's great by his own right too, exactly as you said. But you have to give the guy credit for being able to pull off his father's sound right down to the pick attack too, which shows how good he is.

  • @shred5 Definitely. His albums cost way too much money online though. I wish some place around here would actually sell them.

  • i was there. dweezil ftw!

  • OH BOY

    Sheesh thnaks again

  • Ray White is the special guest (again) this year.

Last year, I had front row at the show in Dallas. Ray White helped me peel the setlist from the stage floor. He then autographed an empty enema box I brought (Illinois Enema Bandit). Cool!

I also brought an empty muffin mix box that DZ and Sheila autographed. What an awesome band!

  • just saw these guys forth row at summerfest in Wisconsin, they played this and followed with a 20 some minuite version of cosmic debris, fucking increadable.

  • 4th row!...You are a lucky guy. From that close, you can tell the difference between a Sears poncho and a Mexican poncho! =D

I can't wait to see this years' tour stop.

  • dude, I was right in front of their bass player, where were you? I may have talked to you...

  • except I had front row =] Pete (Bassist) Handed me his pick and setlist

  • Pete's a nice guy!

Last year, I had front row at the show in Dallas. Ray White helped me peel the setlist from the stage floor. He then autographed an empty enema box I brought. Cool!

  • i was wearing a black shirt with a white zappa face on it, i probably saw you I was on the side with pete as well, hell of a show finishing with cosmik debris, that was class

  • Son of Zappa is incredible!

  • You said it, man! =D

    Peace~

  • Great video! Hope you don't mind our little tribute video. ;)

  • That's fine, man! I love it.

    Music is the Best!

  • que guitarra tan mala!!! pobre Deewzil!!!!

  • whose the blonde on keyboards?

  • It's just Sheila with a wig. She's dressed up as one of Ray White's ho's! =D

    It was a funny performance!

    (BTW, PRIMUS SUCKS!)

You know what I mean, right? ;)

  • oh yea, i know exactly what you're talking about...PRIMUS ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!!! @;^)

  • WOOOOOOOO! Ray White! Great cover!

  • YEAH, Ray White was great! I think he will be back for the 2008 ZPZ tour.

    Peace~

  • Oh Man...Killer Jamming! I have not heard Dweezil play like this since his album "My Guitar Want's To Kill Your Momma". I gotta have more. What album is this off of?

  • I don't think Dweezil has cut this an any album. I've only seen him do it live. However, he may include it on a future ZPZ concert DVD.

The 2008 tour is about to start. Get your ticket, and GO! You won't regret it!

    Peace~

  • My dick just exploded from my body and nearly beat me to death, and shot sparks into my soul.

  • Ohhhkaaaaayyyy, I'll take that as a thumbs up?

Glad you like the video, bro!

    Peace~

  • Oh yeah, thumbs WAY up.

  • One of the best songs ever!

  • Lot's of FZ fans feel the same way about this song!

Keep an eye on the next ZPZ concert schedule. They are about to start the next tour! Yea!

  • Agreed! And a most excellent cover.

Frank would be proud of his son.

  • Oh yeah. I guess I could have looked it up.

  • I wish my dad had left me a heritage like this, instead of his debts

  • He comes close to Frank's energy, but he doesn't really do it. All attempts at Frank are only a Frank chimera, really. The original is always the original. Dweezil's own music is laughable. Might as well cash in on Dad.

  • What does chimera mean?

  • It means substandard ripoffs of FZ. Or you could use an online dictionary...

  • look he's playing his dad how touching and playing him well !!

  • Yeah, FZ couldn't have wished for a better kid than DZ!

    Peace~

  • amen to that. dweezil's the dude. totally different stylistic backgrounds, but very much the kickass guitarist frank was.

  • Hey, new tour dates for ZPZ 2008 have been announced on the ZPZ website. They are starting in the Northeast (US). Can't wait!

  • are you kidding? dweezil doesn't even come close to his dad's ability, and ZPZ are pretty dull too. The best zappa band around now are the grandmothers, with napoleon murphy brock, roy estrada and don preston. Plus; the guitarist they've got, miroslav tadic pisses all over dweezil. They also have a top drummer too, chris garcia, better than bozzio.

  • Hahaha Ray White in full pimp regalia.

  • Yes, he was having fun that night!

Sheila (the sax/keyboardist) also came out dressed as a "lady if the evening"...working for Willie the Pimp.

    Peace.

  • this dooesnt sound much like the original.... but its still really awesome

  • yep, the original was with captain beefheart singing. This is much like the version frank did on tour when ray white (singer in this vid) was in the band.

  • That must have been really cool. The first thing i think about when i hear his name, is actually Inca Roads, i think he has lead vocals in the beginning of the song.

  • Actually, the lead vocals on Inca Roads were sung by Napoleon Murphy Brock (Nappy), but you are not far off. There is also Ike Willis to complete the trio of vocalists that Frank had in his band at different times (or at the same time). It gets very confusing!

    Peace!

  • actually, i think it was george duke on inca roads, prime example - inca roads off of the dub room special dvd. duke is singing and it sounds so identical to the original off one size fits all...

    cheers

  • Man, I learn something every day!

Thanks for that "tidbit" of FZ trivia.

    Peace.

  • no problem, and while i'm here, i really enjoyed all the hendrix cover vids... really, really well done. good job!

  • Thanks, LONGLIVEINGROCKER!

And, thanks for watching them, too.

I am currently working on a ZAPPA tune. If it turns out well, my next post will be "Village of the Sun".

    Peace.

  • my all time fav zappa song.

and who's the dark skined guy? im not too much into Zappa, so my guess would Be Barry White or something.

    Peace out.

  • FZ had many different vocalists through the years. On the 2007 ZPZ Tour, the special guest was Ray White (seen here). He was in Frank's band from 1976 to ~1984. He is an awesome vocalist, and also plays rhythm guitar. When you mention Ray's name, most think of the tune "The Illinios Enema Bandit", in which he sang lead vocals.

I was literally inches from Ray that night, and I got his autograph on an empty enema box! He also helped me remove a playlist from the stage floor. So cool.

    Peace.

  • thats awesome that you got a setlist... they went soooo quick. but i did talk to dweezil from the stage after the show, and ray came out stage door pretty early and hung around talking a group of us. i got dweezil, ray, vai, billy and jamie to sign my rare tour poster. fantastic vid!

  • He had so many talented musicians playing with him over the years too that it's scary!
