Just battled him for the first time today on chapter 5 and I must say he is hard. Im currently at level 82 with 3 black knights and I changed into yunas special dressphere and used stats boosting spells and haste and kept on using her strongest attack... got his health between half and 3 quarters and he used perditions flame knocking yuna out leaving the 2 sides on critical damage, tranformed back into black knight and a couple of moves later he used flare and destroyed my team.
@ajstyles24TNA, he's actually easier than most people think. My lowest level attempt was 47-ish, and it took me about 30 minutes to beat him.
The best strategy that I found is to have one maxed out Alchemist and two maxed out (may as well) Dark Knights. Have the Alchemist use nothing but Mega Potions from Stash and have the Dark Knights use Darkness over and over. The key is to wait patiently after you knock Taurich or Zaurich out so Angra Mainyu will revive one of them and THEN use Darkness.
finally beat it. took over an hour, with everyone at about level 60. yuna and paine were dark knights (yuna had mastery), rikku was an alchemist with near mastery (can't stash elixers yet) realy close. so close to death at the end that yuna ended up using charon, which finished it
@Nightmare7454 yeah it is possible kill the sides first with yuna having catnip paine as darknight and rikku as alchemist and yuna as gunner keep using trigger happy with yuna's health real low use hi potion on rikku and paine
I beat this with a Gunner and two Black Mages; the Gunner had Ragnarok equipped and kept using Scattershot (all enemies, crit damage) to kill Tawrich and damage Angra, one Black Mage could used White Magic via a Garment Grid (but needed to be a Black Mage for MP Absorb), and the other Black Mage just used Flare on Zarich and Angra. It was a hard battle, but really fun!
the way I beat angra manyu is by having a Gun mage, Alchemist and a Dark Knight. It took about 20 mins, but I managed. Use the alchemist as you would a white mage, have the gun mage use buffs/skill attacks and the dark knight for massive damage. Hope this helps! :P
@MegaRockdude If you have the Lady Luck dressphere (win the sphere break tournament in Ch.3), have everyone learn the ability Double Items. In the Farplane Abyss, you can get 8 Mega Potions from an Earthworm.
I've just finished kicking this guys ass! My highest level was 61, that was paine, lowest was yuna with 59. Used paine as dark knight using darkness, rikku went to town with pilfer mp, and yuna was alchemist mixing mega-potions for the battle! That was until I eventually got rid of all 9999 of his mp lol. Took about 3 hours to do, first ever playthrough (yes this long after it's release lol) But boy am I glad to have that bastard finished! Now I need to go find black elemental for the catnip :D
What I did for this boss was a got the dark knight dressphere and I got a white ring I think that give anyone in your party white magic so when someone needed a heal I could heal myself and fight or you can put the white mage dressphere on and can something that gives anyone all the black magic the black mage can know. It took a while but I was able to to it ( mostly because I needed money to buy the stuff and you can buy this stuff at the shop in macalania omaka must run it though )
To make this battle easier, keep facing him in chapter 1 ( while roaming the desert) and every bit of damage you do to him then will carry on to the battle in chapter 5.

thanks to youtube i was able to see this full ending....i saw the bs ending where if you dont have 100% ....i just needed to beat this fucker and do the last mission in the djose temple i was at 99% then someone stole my memory card
daaaayummnn! I remember Yojimbo and Angry Mainya used to kick my ass to this theme. Eventually beat them both, but this theme didn't help me one bit while I was fightng them. The music was totally on their side and not mine. Uplifting for them, but not for me. I guess for the monsters in FF X-2, having home court advantage means that they get to choose their own battle music to listen to while they beat me up.
@97432561 I'm pretty sure he is, though its worth it to fight him for the challenge, probably one of the only bosses that offers any challenge, other than the ones in the Via Infinito.

Then Angra used Flare and she died. The second time I fought him, in another New Game+, I had two Gunners with Catnip, and I Trigger Happied him to death. Now that I watch somebody else fight Angra, I feel that I shouldn't had killed him so cheaply.
Am I the only one who actually thought to drain Angra Mainyu's MP and then my own so it was unable to attack or absorb any MP from me? That was my strategy for beating this...
@afsmeg Not at the moment no. But if you finish the game, you wil get the option of New-Game-Plus. With this you can start a new game while keeping all your (key)items, dresspheres, learnt abilities and overall percentage of completion. Which gives you the opportunity to give the sphere to New Yevon if you gave it to the Youth League the last time, or vice versa. Also enables you to get any items, (dress)spheres or missions you might have missed to get 100%. You can do NG+ as many times u want.
PUWAHAHAHAA~!! PWNED IT! It took 30 mins. I used two dark knights casting darkness only, and my middle character was an alchemist mixing pimp juice (actually, potions and hi potions to turn into mega potions for everyone). I used this strategy throughout the rest of the game and beat the game using this strategy.
lol its funny because your using the exact same build i used to defeat this boss, when i played this game many years ago... except i didnt start yuna as white mage, i had her set as alch. o and i also spammed black sky ..... fun...
This guy was a pain in the ass to beat! I remember Tarui was the easy one to down, but it always did that attack where it pretty much killed one or two people. There was some item you found later when equipped, you would do 9999 damage when you were in danger. I combined that with Trigger Happy, and I spammed the hell out of him.
@marthedge Personally, I prefer an Alchemist instead of White Mage. The Alchemist can combine things for Walls or Ultra-Potion and using just Mega Potion from their own making set is good, too. No MP wasted and your item stock doesn't decrease.
yeah, there is that, but I forgot to mention the accessory for white mage I had reduced the MP cost to 0, it allowed me to spam curaga with no worries...
What I did to destroy him, I took Yuna and I had her on The 20 def 20 magic def DS, then put white mage on top dark night on bottom and something on the left side. Equip Yuna as Dark Night, Rikku and Paine as White mage and move it along so you can get the extra 40 defense which also with using the Garment Grid gives you 20 already. Then I had that Ragnarosk or whatever it is called that doesn't drain mana, on Yuna, and just Darkness'ed him i had Paine and Rikku with straight HP+ gear.outofspac

I think you could uhm... use a piercing magic garment grid on yuna, make her cast all buffs as white mage(shell protect reflect AND regen on each one) then going alchemist to use either a heal after perdition flame or nuking them up with elemental bombs xD(since in the middle of the fight you got elementalist)

Hey this worked 4 me on beating this guy. What I did was i used all their special dress spheres from weakest to strongest and it worked well. But b4 switching to the next special I made sure everyone was healed up so i could keep going. And to make it go fast equip the garment grid that only has 2 spots so its easy to switch.

@AtlansTalon FYI defeating a though boss is way more impressive when you're low level than high level. And quite frankly leveling up is so easy in this game (aswell as every other final fantasy).
little tip if you fight this guy earlier in the game (chapter 1-2 when digging) make one person flee and attack like hell it weakens him for chapter 5
it took me 5 tries, first 4 at lv 75 ish, then leveled to 99 using lady luck inside the farplane and took me 40 min to kill him, use i used rikku as a white mage, keep throwing hi pots and mega pots, and yuna and paine attacking the physical arm, then attacking the middle (also made rikku use protect and reflect items)
you should hav rikku an yuna in berserk an paine in warrior and get rikku an yumna to use berserk an paine use assualt then angra mainyu will be beat in like 5 minuites
you could have every one in reflect and have ur best mage cast on your party for a three chain effect and have ur alchemist just cure and berserker in beserk
I remember when I first saw this thing in chapter 1 while doing digs, I didn't want to believe they were going to be so cruel to kill off a palyer with caracters under level 10, was pleasently suprised it just makes you go away, rather than pummle you in a single attack.
Well The Other Day I Was Using The FAQ Guide To Beat Angra...But It Seem's They Can Only Be Possible For High Leveled YRP's... So I'm Gonna Beat Him Ma Way!
I defeated this guy finally a couple weeks ago, and really, he's not all THAT hard. It just takes strategy and little bit of luck. All you really need here is high high defense and magic defense. I used two Dark knights for Darkness and a skilled up white mage. The only big problem was when he used Perdition's Flame. Other than that, it's very possible, but takes a while to take him down.
though this is a great game and i'm a great strategist i pretty much cast all strategy aside once i reached a certain level of power.
i just mastered berserker, equipped the right elemental protection gear and boosted all of the girls attack power while having them learn universal moves from each dressphere. if you do all that nothing can bring you down. i just hit all of my opponents hard, fast and often. they went down without incident. get strong enough and you don't need strategy.
lol have, and slaughtered all of them. the only one that gave me real shit was that fucking dark elemental. but seriously, the best strategy is to master each dresssphere and then lvl up to 99. the girl can use universal abilities from each sphere if they're mastered, sometimes mastering them isn't needed. then just modify your armor and stuff as u see fit. then hit hard, hit fast, and hit often. personally i only ever lost 3 fights.
i lost to the dark elemental because i took it on at level 50. and by universal moves i mean how say for instance u can be in any dressphere but u can always use some form of dark magic like fira or u can always use some abilities from the warrior dressphere. thats what i mean by universal moves. but like i said, for the strategy to be absolutely foolproof u have to have mastered the dressphere your suing at the moment and at least be at lvl 90. at lvl 99 no fight should last longer than 9 min.

I'm going to assume you're talking about the Lore Accs. or GGs like Pride of the Sword too. But why would you use those as they're only needed for very specific fights...
Anyways, if you're talking about regular battles, no fight should last longer than like 30 seconds (There are exceptions like in late Via floors) : /

i say 9 mins because i'm referring to specific boss fights, and yes i am referring to moves like pride of the sword, but they aren't only for specific fights. i mean there's a time and place for everything but u shouldn't have to restrict yourself to using certain techniques for certain situations. i uses whatever i think will bring about a victory quickest. unless it pays to do otherwise i hit with everything i have as soon as possible as often as possible. power through strategies only fail.
Instead of mixing high-potions, it'd be better to max out the abilities of the girl using the alchemist dressphere so she can use stash. Takes a little longer than just throwing a high-potion, but stash + mega-potion is so worth it.
I used a different tactic to kill this guy but i forgot how since this game pretty old

This guy was a pain in the ass to beat! I remember Tarui was the easy one to down, but it always did that attack where it pretty much killed one or two people. There was some item you found later when equipped, you would do 9999 damage when you were in danger. I combined that with Trigger Happy, and I spammed the hell out of him.

@marthedge Personally, I prefer an Alchemist instead of White Mage. The Alchemist can combine things for Walls or Ultra-Potion and using just Mega Potion from their own making set is good, too. No MP wasted and your item stock doesn't decrease.

yeah, there is that, but I forgot to mention the accessory for white mage I had reduced the MP cost to 0, it allowed me to spam curaga with no worries...

What I did to destroy him, I took Yuna and I had her on The 20 def 20 magic def DS, then put white mage on top dark night on bottom and something on the left side. Equip Yuna as Dark Night, Rikku and Paine as White mage and move it along so you can get the extra 40 defense which also with using the Garment Grid gives you 20 already. Then I had that Ragnarosk or whatever it is called that doesn't drain mana, on Yuna, and just Darkness'ed him i had Paine and Rikku with straight HP+ gear.outofspac

I think you could uhm... use a piercing magic garment grid on yuna, make her cast all buffs as white mage(shell protect reflect AND regen on each one) then going alchemist to use either a heal after perdition flame or nuking them up with elemental bombs xD(since in the middle of the fight you got elementalist)
You beat him so~ that's what counts xD

Hey this worked 4 me on beating this guy. What I did was i used all their special dress spheres from weakest to strongest and it worked well. But b4 switching to the next special I made sure everyone was healed up so i could keep going. And to make it go fast equip the garment grid that only has 2 spots so its easy to switch.

instead of mixing hi-potions, use a normal potion plus a hi-potion (or use stash, either way you;ll get a mega potion)

little tip if you fight this guy earlier in the game (chapter 1-2 when digging) make one person flee and attack like hell it weakens him for chapter 5

it took me 5 tries, first 4 at lv 75 ish, then leveled to 99 using lady luck inside the farplane and took me 40 min to kill him, use i used rikku as a white mage, keep throwing hi pots and mega pots, and yuna and paine attacking the physical arm, then attacking the middle (also made rikku use protect and reflect items)

I remember when I first saw this thing in chapter 1 while doing digs, I didn't want to believe they were going to be so cruel to kill off a palyer with caracters under level 10, was pleasently suprised it just makes you go away, rather than pummle you in a single attack.

I mind I was way too lazy to train with this game. I liked it but it had let me down. The story was crap but the gameplay was very enjoyable.
when I fought this hing I used the sphere switch to get ultima and just brought it down with a mass spam of ultima XD

I defeated this guy finally a couple weeks ago, and really, he's not all THAT hard. It just takes strategy and little bit of luck. All you really need here is high high defense and magic defense. I used two Dark knights for Darkness and a skilled up white mage. The only big problem was when he used Perdition's Flame. Other than that, it's very possible, but takes a while to take him down.

though this is a great game and i'm a great strategist i pretty much cast all strategy aside once i reached a certain level of power.
i just mastered berserker, equipped the right elemental protection gear and boosted all of the girls attack power while having them learn universal moves from each dressphere. if you do all that nothing can bring you down. i just hit all of my opponents hard, fast and often. they went down without incident. get strong enough and you don't need strategy.

lol have, and slaughtered all of them. the only one that gave me real shit was that fucking dark elemental. but seriously, the best strategy is to master each dresssphere and then lvl up to 99. the girl can use universal abilities from each sphere if they're mastered, sometimes mastering them isn't needed. then just modify your armor and stuff as u see fit. then hit hard, hit fast, and hit often. personally i only ever lost 3 fights.

If you're talking about the Lore Accs. and certain GGs, then yes, but... why would you use those <.<
You would lose hands down against Paragon... especially if you use Berserkers... Unless he's OSd, but come on lol

i lost to the dark elemental because i took it on at level 50. and by universal moves i mean how say for instance u can be in any dressphere but u can always use some form of dark magic like fira or u can always use some abilities from the warrior dressphere. thats what i mean by universal moves. but like i said, for the strategy to be absolutely foolproof u have to have mastered the dressphere your suing at the moment and at least be at lvl 90. at lvl 99 no fight should last longer than 9 min.

I'm going to assume you're talking about the Lore Accs. or GGs like Pride of the Sword too. But why would you use those as they're only needed for very specific fights...
Anyways, if you're talking about regular battles, no fight should last longer than like 30 seconds (There are exceptions like in late Via floors) : /

i say 9 mins because i'm referring to specific boss fights, and yes i am referring to moves like pride of the sword, but they aren't only for specific fights. i mean there's a time and place for everything but u shouldn't have to restrict yourself to using certain techniques for certain situations. i uses whatever i think will bring about a victory quickest. unless it pays to do otherwise i hit with everything i have as soon as possible as often as possible. power through strategies only fail.

Instead of mixing high-potions, it'd be better to max out the abilities of the girl using the alchemist dressphere so she can use stash. Takes a little longer than just throwing a high-potion, but stash + mega-potion is so worth it.

OK, you guys don't need to do it this way I have a faster way I bet him in 1 minute 23 seconds.
Equip your highest level with cap nip + ribbon or cap nip + speed bracer
Next use black magic against your party, and make sure your highest levels hp is in yellow.
Next turn the other 2 to white mage cast reflect, shell, protect on the cap nipped character.
Make the cap nip char gunner use trigger frenzy and you will hit 9999 x 15 times if its level 3 and your fast enough.
