here the normal is: 243, 30-06,308, 300WM,7MM RM (better choice than the 300 wm i think)) 35 welen, 9.3x62 and 9.3 x74. some people heave for sort combat the 444 marlin and the 45-70, and another heave for use 1 time in year the 416RM (very expensive) minimum 400gr 180€
I want to choose a weapon, for EVERYTHING, but between these 3 calibers. WM 338, 375 HH, 375 WBY, I saw that the 375 is the best choice because it is more powerful, but also said that HH amo in the WBY is more slow ... what you think? the 375 WBY can shoot cartridges of the HH? and the 375 Ruger? fires HH amo? Do not even know what to choose ... I want to kill all strong, but with a variety of ammunition ($) in all countries including Africa. What do you think? tanks
@losteden In some countries the 338 Win Mag is not legal to use on thick skinned dangerous game. I would suggest you try out the 375 H&H Magnum first and see how you like it. Only get the 375 Weatherby Magnum if you can afford it and handle the recoil. The last thing you want is to flinch from your rifle when a 7 ton beast has blood in its eye and thinks nothing else but charging you down. Don't get the 375 Ruger because Hornady is the only company who sells ammunition for it.
@losteden Also the 375 Remington Ultra Magnum or the 378 Weatherby Magnum can be used internationally for hunting. Don't use anything bigger than you can handle. All the 375's i mentioned should be fine for game from a 60 lb. javelina to a 7 ton elephant. Just use bullets that are appropriate for your quarry.
@460WeatherbyMag Thank ruger then forget, but my question is: if the arms 375 Remington Ultra Magnum 375 Weatherby Magnum or are capable of firing munitions HH? or just the description. was good to buy a 375 Weatherby rifle and shoot whenever you want ammo HH, IS POSSIBLE? THANK YOU HUG
@losteden Don't try to put 375 H&H Magnum through a 375 RUM chamber. It can only result in disaster if you can get it to fit. The 375 Wby is just the 375 H&H but blown out so there is no longer a taper. If you shoot 375 H&H through the 375 Wby chamber then you will just fire form it to the shape of the chamber. Any 375 Wby rifle will fire the 375 H&H as well. I would recommend a Weatherby Mark V. Also you can get any 375 H&H rifle re-chambered to 375 Wby. Also a Remington 700 bolt action.
@losteden You probably don't see any on Weatherby's website because in 1956 when they introduced the 378 Wby the company thought the cartridge was the cartridge that ends all others in its class. They wanted it to work so bad they even shut down the production of even there own cartridge which is the 375 Wby. They now produce it but you won't see it on there site. If you give them a call you can ask about the cartridge.
@losteden Go to Weatherby's custom shop or give them a call. Don't get a 30-378 Wby. My older cousin Garret used the smaller 300 Wby on a grizzly in Anchorage and it hollowed out its chest cavity and left a 10'' whole where the scapula should have been. It was 180 grain soft points at 3250 fps. A 300 Win Mag or a 30-06 springfield will be fine for a .300 cal.
@460WeatherbyMag but you say that the best choice is the 375 WBY magnum and not 375HH right? and then want to buy one for fun and spent bullets, a 300 wsm or 300 wm not because it melts too mutch barrel, maby one or 243 or 30.06. tanks aloot man
@losteden In all honesty the 375 Wby can't do anything that the 375 H&H can't do, vice versa. They will both take an elephant with ease, the trajectory is almost the same, penetration difference is only a few inches, etc. It's just what you prefer. If you want more muzzle energy go for the Wby cartridge, if not then go for the H&H. If you ever do go to another country or continent the chances of you finding 375 Wby ammunition is slim. But no matter, it can also chamber the 375 H&H cartridge.
@460WeatherbyMag ( it can also chamber the 375 H&H cartridge.) but fires well? I heard that the WBY gun fires HH amunition slower than the original HH rifle... its true? tanks
@losteden It's possible but I never heard of it. As long as you have the right rate of twist for that bullet weight it should shoot the same. I f it did shoot slower I would estimate it would only be by 10-15 fps which makes no difference.
@losteden The 375 H&H is the most popular and common cartridge across the world so no troubles finding that one. The 375 H&H with it's hottest handload possible can lauch a 300 grain solid or expanding bullet at 2650-2700 fps generating about 4800 ft lbs of kinetic muzzle energy. The 375 Wby with its hottest handload can launch a 300 grain bullet at about 2800 fps generating about 5200 ft lbs of kinetic energy at the muzzle.
@losteden I personally would go for the 375 H&H because it's comfortable to shoot multiple rounds through a day, and if I wanted more power than I would go for a 416 Remington or 458 Win Mag to take full advantage of the kinetic energy. The 300 Win Mag and the 300 Win Short Mag are identical in ballistics. Typical factory loads launch a 180 grain bullet at 3000 fps for 3500 ft lbs of energy. 300 Win Mag ammunition is around $25-$65 vs $40-$80 for the short mag.
@losteden If you go to midwayusa's website put your arrow on ''ammunition'' in the top right corner, then a bar will pop up. Go to the left of that bar that says ''rifle ammunition'' and click on ''shop all rifle ammunition''. When you get there go to the prices of all the cartridges you were considering to get. The 375 Wby is about $120-$130 for 20 cartridges the 458 win mag is about $60-$100 for 20 cartridges and the 375 H&H is about $35-$100 for 20 cartridges.
@460WeatherbyMag i live in portugal man, here the people only hunts deer and wild boar one 30.06 or another .30 does the work, but go hunting in africa Angola. here the 375 HH goes 300g 65€, top 139€. the 458 is 69€ 500g top 165€ all 20 bullets
@losteden If a multi-ton beast is charging you down you wont be thinking about the couple of dollars you saved on ammunition. That's just my opinion. Only get a large rifle if you can handle the recoil.
The 375 Wby generates 5-10 ft lbs more recoil than the 458 Win Mag with factory loads and the 375 Wby cost much more for ammunition. And because bullet velocity is lower than the Weatherby cartridge it is still more comfortable to shoot with the hottest handloads.
@460WeatherbyMag but the penetracion at 200m the HH win or the 458? my head explodes lolol need to try all the guns man maby buy the barret 50 cal or .416 Barrett lololol big Hug
@losteden I personally would go for the full length case of the 300 Win Mag because ammunition is cheaper, more common, and I would only go for the short mag if I wanted to re-barrel the rifle to a standard length action cartridge. A 243 Win is a great caliber, and packs a punch for varmints and the targets. Same for the 30-06.
well I like it but heres a tuff one, will us reloaders be able to duplicate factory like performance like max velocity with powders availible to the public
@VicariousReality7 the 375 Ruger is a good one it fits in a 30-06 length action. They claim 150 fps faster but I just looked in the Lyman 49th reloader book and they only got 50-100 fps faster which isnt much bragging rights to a reloader. the shorter stiff action does alot for accracy though.
