saying this robot can feel is dangerous as the word feel or feelings has different conotations. It may be able to replicate our external signs for showing pain but that does not mean it has the internal signs for pain, (the reason why we show the external signs). Which is emotions/feelings. Repilcating this sort of thing sweeps aside the importance and the true understanding of why we give out these reactions. TwinkletoesPlusR and DreamwalkerAC are both right.

My cousin had a toy doll back in the early 90s who did exactly the same thing, this is just bigger... Squeeze certain points to trigger a button hidden under the "skin" to start playing a certain soundclip... The only upgrade I can see to that $15 toy, is a voice recognition program and pressure sensitive buttons/triggers instead of simple binary on/off ones... All fairly cheap and unsophisticated now almost 20 years after the toy I mentioned...

Doesn't necessarily mean it can feel anything. It can be pressure sensitive and have automated responses for the pressure. Imagine squeezing a part of her arm. It triggers an automated response to say something.

@TwinkletoesPlusR yea exactly. I doubt artificial intelligence is even possible. Any robot even 100 years from now, as advanced as they will be they still won't be self aware. Everything they do will be programmed by people. If you slap the robot in the face and it says "ouch", it doesn't mean it feels it like we do or that it even knows what pain is. It will have a sensor and when that sensor receives the force required it will trigger a voice response etc etc.

@MaynardMouse we have pain sensors while theirs are just sensors, they don't actually feel pain. A newborn baby will eventually learn a language by hearing his or her parents talk. Drop a robot into a human family and it will never learn a language. No robot can truly learn. It will just react/respond in the manner it was programmed.
