takes me back to the eighties when my granddad took me to see his parents farm in kilkee saw the engine on the side of the road looking all forlawn. i hear the west coast railway has reopened and the enigne restored by locals
My grandmother was a rail gateway keeper for the train:) until it closed in 1961,(if im not mistaken) she took care of the gates when it passed through clonadrum, mullagh. This song is a great piece of history!
the funny thing about this song is the writter who wrote this was being sued by the WCR company. As the court was held in Ennis Percy ''the writer'' was almost an hour late and told the judge about his absence and he said, in quote ''I took the west claire railway here your honor'' Immediately the judge said case dismissed.
My Mum reckons this song was written about my Great Great Grandad. he lived in the railway cottage between Ennistymon and Lahinch. Thanks for makin our Christmas yesterday.
When you say mourning, were you mourning the fact that it took ages to get to ennis from Lehinch and that you could've driven there or taken a bus quicker?
Pure delight! As a garden railfarer, I've always wanted to hear this.
