  • The way she seems so full of joy! this is so beautiful

  • @DuykRuyk oops! That should be: * down towards the center.....

  • @DuykRuyk The instrument is the same, thr way you hold it an the bowing are different between the styles. A person who plays classical music usually holds it up right and on the shoulder. A person who plays Celtic and Irish jig and what not, will have the instrument more dowager the center of their body and they may be hunched over it a bit. In the end though, a violin and a fiddle are the same instrument..... That answer your question? :)

  • @TheLastOni but a violin is a fiddle, it's the same instrument. It's how you play it that makes a difference. I was just saying that the way she played the song didn't sound how it should if you played it in "fiddle style" :)

  • @MrRajamuttu Maybe she is a beginner?

  • I'd say yes!

  • Not worst than the Corr's girly ...

  • @edelahaye actutually, yes, she's worst !

  • you have to work. Don't play irish music with classical music style.

  • something somewhere went terribly wrong.. -.-

  • not good

  • K I can play this I'm 12 can she really fiddle like me

  • okay, so she can smile and play violin, but can she fiddle?

  • i love this kind of music!!

  • @geezmcgeez You're probably right

  • AWESOME.THANX

  • When you visited Ireland and its beautiful landscape, you really feel that breathtaking music :)

  • i abasolutly love it :D xxx

  • @XxbambambxX I mean sound better :) Lol!

  • @XxbambambxX same, live performances usually sound as well

  • Thats not how it should sound at all

  • The Chieftains - Drowsy Maggie

  • awesome performance, merry xmas to you

  • play it from the heart not the head! once you fall over that line you will never have to ask

  • i love it!!!

  • Does anyone else notice that she's actually quite a terrible violinist, but nonetheless she is a good performer

  • i love this i want to learn this :D xxxx

  • @Xerxes4242 Lol! that's very true :)

  • Great music, inspiring... stay humble... (and pretty)

    Best wishes from France.

  • :)

  • Joontae

  • Hop Rae

  • @jcindass89 It could be a viola but I thought it looked to thin to be one

  • @masamune200 That makes sense because both styles are different sounding. :)

  • the only thing about her face that moved was her eyebrow in the beginning

  • @fearnothingdearone

It's a piss poor rendition of the tune. Drowsy Maggie is a reel. Reels have to played with energy and a bit of swing, her version sounds as if she had memorized a series of notes out a book but had taken no time to listen to actual Irish fiddlers playing the tune. So the end result sounds like a classical violinist sight reading an exercise from a book of etudes. No lift, no energy, nothing danceable happening here.

  • @piobairesicago well..now that you wrote this I have to agree.

  • @dude7513 i didn't mean that she was out of tune, the violin was fine, I just personally though that it would have sounded better if she played it with ( I think it's called) ornementation or grace notes

  • @Mangareader2413 Some people call it ornamentation, other people (Alasdair Fraser) call it required!

  • this just makes me want to dance :D

  • Is it just me or I'd that just not sound how it should?

  • @Mangareader2413 either you've never heard an in tune violin or you've never heard someting as awesome as this

  • @dude7513 I listen to a ton of awesome celtic music, and this doesn't even come close. So wooden.

  • @Xerxes4242

I agree. I mean she did alright, but it was very stiff.

  • @Mangareader2413 that could be a viola

  • @Mangareader2413

It's the rhythm. For some reason classically trained violinists have a really hard time getting the right rhythm for Irish fiddle.

  • @Mangareader2413 Sounds way too "plastic" to me, if that makes any sense. Couldn't have it on my iPod:/

  • @Mangareader2413 you're correct but i prefear a live performance even if it sounds shit its better than a playback.

  • @Mangareader2413 try it yourself ! ya boot licken dog ya!!

  • @Mangareader2413

She's trying real hard, and definitely giving it her heart. Kudos to her. She's missing the ornaments and the swing, which add to the subtlety of traditional music. Interestingly enough the piano player had the ceili band bounce. She could get "there" with some quality time spent with Liz Carroll, Martin Hayes or other traditional musicians. Since this was uploaded in 2007 she probably has if she was interested.

  • @Mangareader2413.......... it completely right its just she most likely plays nothing but classical music opposed to an someone who plays nothing but irish or celtic or scotish... just the style. classical players seem to be more ridged precise and fiddle players seem to be fluid in how the play there music with tricks like rolls trils double stops slurs

  • @Mangareader2413

She's alright, but, yeah, it's not really her bag. Check out John Doherty's version on yt; it's great.

  • @psychkoala John Doherty's version was AMAZING!!!!

  • @Mangareader2413

He's great ! Glad you liked it.

  • @Mangareader2413 Good catch! It's how a child or a beginner might play "Drowsy Maggie".

  • @Mangareader2413 She's playing the the violin instead of a fiddle, this could be why it doesn't sound as it should.

  • @Mangareader2413 What?

  • @Mangareader2413 she is just playing it slower than most people do

  • Wow, this is really....bad.

  • FANTASTIC....

  • excuse me, i just threw up in my mouth a little bit

  • @jigshinny

    ...Why..?

  • @saramichealhpt

that was rude of me Sara, but as someone who loves Irish music, i didnt get the sense that much effort went into really learning the tune. I heard all the notes, but not much beyond that. I've heard plenty of people(including myself) playing at this level, usually coming into Irish music from some other genre, and trying to learn how to properly play tunes. But i wouldnt expect to see it performed on a large stage at this level

  • @jigshinny

Yeah, that was rude, but on the other side I understood you. I mean, music is a really an important thing for some, and to take it so lightly, can be irritating lol.

  • she can play the violin, smiling !!!! OMG ! haha

  • @gabriellins140 I play violin smiling 2, when u like what ur doing its easy 2 smile :D

  • @xandbochi HAHAHA YEAH !!

  • is that raining up????? :)

  • hoodle doodle sexy

  • Hey ! What is the name of that tune? I play the violin and I want to get the sheet music.

  • @MrJorlop I believe the name of this piece is "Drowsy Maggie".

  • i can play that song

  • Why are there so many dicks in here posting shit? Seriously, this music makes you want to dance and have fun... maybe even take a beer but her smile makes it even more enjoyable to listen to because you can see she's realy enjoying playing it.

Seriously shut the fuck up and enjoy the god dam music!

  • With the fixed plasticine smiles they look like Disney mascots.

  • I like how she smiles threw the whole thing and isnt so serious.

  • OH MY GOSH IM IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG!!

  • Did she glue her mouth like that?

  • well she's definately not a particularly talented woman musician...

  • one thing I have come to realize about talented women musicians, is that they are good at love too ;)

  • Drowsy Maggie!

  • WAP-WAP2

  • My vote!! celtic folks have the best traditional music!!

    Cheers from India!

  • very average

  • I really wanna play this song and I can't find it!! XD

  • Nice girl, but.....

very inaccurate playing. It doesn't swing like it's supposed to. I give a plus for her never-fading smile. :)

  • anyone knows the name of the song and her name she is hot..i love this song i play everyday me encanta...

  • I wonder if she's ever heard Irish music before...

  • me encanta,i love it..anyone knows the name of her and the song

  • @leopoldocastano Can you type English just not read it? Both are in the description

  • Vous êtes des Anges, leur Maitre est ravi et Dieu a souri….merçi .

  • BTW that's morrison's jig and not i don't what made up name

  • what are ye on about its clearly drowsy maggie

  • @roryelliot14 you mean your accent is so strong it goes through your keyboard?

  • These Celtic players have the ability to show the joy and fun of playing. If our Tennesseens followed this just a little.... they'd have a whole new country unto their own.

  • que belleza,la musica y ella

  • Whatever the case, it's nice to listen to.

  • very nicely performed and played

  • Nice music,,, greetings from Mexico !

  • If I am mad

    why u sad

    oh my LAD!

  • It's too bad that "Celtic" has become such a homogenized term, as with this classically trained violinist trying her hand at a Traditional Tune. Not much tradition in her playing, she's just regurgitating notes shes memorized, from sheet music.

  • @Steviegottagunn music is more universal than you think

  • @Steviegottagunn Totally agree man. She can play, but she just can't play trad music. No soul or spirit in this. Its just bland, without the fire and passion that you would hear in someone like Frankie Gavin or good old John Doherty :)

  • @Steviegottagunn I whole-heartedly agree with you.

  • @Steviegottagunn reminds me of my old violin teacher playing a double jig :D

  • @Steviegottagunn can you play at all, you can certainly dance to her music, and a lot of people were enjoying her performance, so your negative comments just reflect your own musical ideology

  • Comment removed

  • @dickmilesmusic Where is the ornamentation... Doesn't Irish music have Ornamentation?? Also, she is playing this entire piece in single bow strokes... not the way to play traditional music, on the fiddle anyways.... (not my rule). And I'm sure that the classical crowd she was probably playing to, will go home and say how well rounded she is! Before you go commenting on somebody's "musical ideology", you should probably learn something about the particular genre being commented on, Music Teacher.

  • @Steviegottagunn

I agree with you about the performance.

When I see or listen to these blended musical styles. I just say: "At least the audience is receiving a glimmer of the real thing". However you are right to point out the difference. :)

  • @Steviegottagunn And this is bad how?

  • @Steviegottagunn it's just to bad that you're a debby downer.

  • @Steviegottagunn :A problem?The girl can play a mean fiddle.

  • @billyhunchback She is a Violinist who is trying to play fiddle.

  • @Steviegottagunn ...you should write that she "poorly" memorized. Too bad any not-so-ugly-violinist with a cute dress call herself "Celtic" and everybody is enchanted. Shame on these too many "Celtic W" venues and recordings.

  • @Steviegottagunn Yeah? Let's see you do better!

  • @AdmRomulus What, better than her playing an Irish Reel without any ornamentation what so ever and completely on single bow strokes? I do, at a standing gig with other traditionally trained Irish musicians... You sound like one of those knuckle heads that heard Pat Boone covering Little Richard songs and said "Wow, that's really Boss Rock & Roll! You wouldn't know the real thing if it came up and bit you in the arse.

  • @Steviegottagunn Don't count on it.

  • @AdmRomulus *chuckles*

  • she looks kind of scary

  • I love the song, just like I love the fact that the Celts painted themselves blue when they were at war

  • nice performance

  • This is not awesome... I discovered a brand new band with an excellent violonist : NOIR HOUBLON. Must listen the High Reel and let's enjoy!!!!!

  • She is good but she keeps rushing the tempo BIG TIME!!!!That kind of tempo is hard to maintain!BUT STILL IT RUINS THE MUSIC!!

  • celtic is Wales,Scotland and Ireland. Saxon is England !!! Learn your history peeps

  • I love it so much

  • Irish is not "celtic". Irish is feckin Irish. Celtic is word thrown around to describe something not as boring as english or german-ha! The tune is "Drowsy Maggie" an Irish jig, as a French guy says but she is murdering it. Only ignorant people use the word celtic anyway. It has no relevant modern connotations anymore.

  • fula101 its not saying that she is celtic its the type of music she plays

  • omg she is a horrible and ugly violinist, and a fake celtic with horrible hair a fat smile and a green dress?!?!

  • oh and yea she needs to not smile as much holy shit

  • ahh yes, the face of a violinist.. lol..

  • every body is baging on irish and scottish and celtic music but if ur either one and u hate it then ur not proud of ur heritage if irish and scottish and i love it but about the girl now thats a different story and i also like insane clown possy WOOP WOOP

  • wow i think i'm in love...owsome...love ya ..george

  • There is no call for such critical comments. This young lady sounds (and looks) fantastic. Well done!

  • Yes everybody know that she play very slow and drowsy maggie is IRISH not celtic

  • MY 8 YEAR OLD NIECES CAN PLAY BETTER THAN THIS! iT'S RUBBISH AND IT'S IRISH NOT "CELTIC"!
