I wouldn't really be sure how to answer that - you could always go ask advice at a local petstore or an animal shelter. At a first go, i'd say get a cat from a shelter - it would get a new chance at a great life and it already has the right behaviour (no scratching or hissing at you, or taking its frustration out on the couch, among others lol).

But if you feel that you want one and could handle it after asking advice, i say go for it! they're so much fun ^^ and great company too!

We have a cat that loves to do the same thing with the door. I can't see the allure to it; but then again I'm not a cat. She will push the door away from the wall so it's out like yours and Gabby (appropriate name) will start to cry for use to move the door back and forth. Can't afford a video camera.
