I am a long term care nurse in a facility that houses many residents with dementia/alzheimers,either in the beginning stages or late stages. This bill means there is going to be an increase in this type of resident who will not receive adequate care. This could be your mother or father, or maybe already is. I'm a health care professional of 35 yrs in acute care. The issue about the current system is the monopoly of the insurance companies. However the answer to that is regulation not a government plan that all medicare beneficiaries have to go into or some such monstroity. I worked in the VA system for 9 yrs and we would run out of medicine; and those who couldn't get it, well too bad. take a look at those in the UK who have to go on waiting lists. Good 4 U !!! I had a chronic illness that required life-saving surgery. Regence Blue Shield wouldn't pay, but my doc gave me a break. Surgery was $30K but I only had to pay $20K cash! It came from my retirement account. At least no one could come between me & my doctor in the financial arrangement we worked out ourselves.
Good luck to you, Honestinwilkesbarre! I worked as an oncology tech & a lot of my patients had diabetes. It is a serious disease. Not many people know.

I do not object ENTIRELY to prescription drugs or western medicine in general- there is a time and a place for drugs and invasive surgery.
However, our system relies on them FAR too heavily- and when you see the way our system is setup- to maximize PROFIT, and NOT to maximize HEALT, it is easy to understand why this all takes place.
I DO have alternative answers- the same ones other countries use- it's called: PREVENTION.

I am a long term care nurse in a facility that houses many residents with dementia/alzheimers,either in the beginning stages or late stages. This bill means there is going to be an increase in this type of resident who will not receive adequate care. This could be your mother or father, or maybe already is. We need to join together and do everything we can as American citizens to say "NO" to Obama's health care reform. Just think of your parents being denied care because they are over 70 ur next

Before anyone makes a decision on health care reform - regardless of race, gender, political ties - you need to educate yourself on the bills that are out there. Search for the various bills (I believe there are currently four) and READ THEM YOURSELF. Don't rely on the media, don't rely on the president - RELY on YOURSELF. Some of the info being put online is misleading. The only way for YOU to know what is fact and what is fiction ... is to read it yourself and then make an informed decision.

I'm a health care professional of 35 yrs in acute care. The issue about the current system is the monopoly of the insurance companies. However the answer to that is regulation not a government plan that all medicare beneficiaries have to go into or some such monstroity. I worked in the VA system for 9 yrs and we would run out of medicine; and those who couldn't get it, well too bad. take a look at those in the UK who have to go on waiting lists. Sure do your research!!

I broke my shoulder in the UK and when I showed up to the emergency room, I was the only patient. No waiting what so ever... and guess what? Even though I am not a British citizen, I was not handed a bill. HOw ever... have you ever been to an Emergency room here in the U.S.? Holy cow, it's jam packed... rarely even a place to sit and wait.

But you mention being "free" when you were away from post etc.... the fact of the matter is, and I know you know this... when you're a soldier in the US military you are "government property" 24/7...
