I think that's the first time I've checked 3 cars in a row from an old Top Gear and had them all still be running. And there's a good reason why: all 3 were designed for the US market, where a car is expected to last longer than in the UK.

Don't get me wrong though. There are Asian saloons that do work on our roads like the Mazda 6 or Subaru Legacy. It's just the main 3 that just don't seem to get it. There's a reason why you rarely see these vehicles in the UK, even if they are a bargain and well built. Shame Vancouver roads are filled with these eyesores.

Wow! Honda even mounted the wing mirrors on the doors! And this was back in 1997, 10 years before the mainstream luxury car makers realized this was a luxury trait and started doing this one new models. Honda really is forward thinking!

Hey danhang2007.. No, with Asian cars you will win a war.. Asian cars are reliable, that's true but it's the only plus over European cars.. o well even some European cars are even cheaper.. I will give you three names.. Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia... Design with a capital D.. Skoda, BMW, Volvo and Mercedes Benz C are well know of the reliablity and those names.. can remember Japanese cars with long and very strange names.... O and I'm Asian as well...And the Asian european deleopment centres??

Well Clarkson himself admits to being wrong alot at his inability at predicting sales trends. But I do think he has been fair to the point of being crude. The British motoring industry is dead because of the unions and lack of foresight to see the coming invasion of the Japanese. They had every chance of building a better car but they didnt. The American govt bailed out the big 2 but in my view they shouldn't have, they're rewarding failure.

To summarize it all, It's the industry having no unity and that the workers spent most of their time on strike rather than in building quality cars. They did make good cars that I wished were still being built today or at least have a successor existing today. Cars like the Triumph Stag for it's T bar arrangement, Rover 75 for its britishness and Rover SD1 for its unique design.

The Rover 75 is still being built but under the name of Roewee or MG but the chinese now builds them.

Dude, check out the new Cheverlot commercial where they poke fun at Honda. Its decisions like these that make giants weak and stupid. GM has the bare faced cheek to make fun of Honda ? I agree that beautiful design is one thing, but reliability and function are a whole other, and Rover didnt understand that and right now neither does GM. btw, I still think the SD1 is the most beautiful car ever designed.

I drive a 1994 Ford Taurus SHO, one of the best cars to ever come out of the Ford stables, the engine was tweaked by Yamaha and the car just oozed speed in a very subtle way, this is my second SHO, the first one had 197,800 miles on it, If Ford had followed the SHO recipe they would have been way ahead of the curve, instead they went on to build trucks, silly decisions that cost them alot.

I agree. They like to make fun of companies like Honda and have probably been influenced by the Americans who make fun of hondas as rice burners even though it doesn't have a body kit nor any mods installed like how they like to make fun of us Asians. I see Europe has been taking down notes about Japanese reliability and they're doing great. Ignorance is what's going to bring down the most powerful continent. Glad Ford's doing what the Europeans are doing and improving their cars now.

That attitude might have worked say 15-20 years ago, America has spoken, the shape of GM and Chrysler speak volumes about who makes fun of whom. Americans are patriotic yes, stupid no....they left American cars in droves and embraced the Asian and European cars when they got better. From the Toyopet to the new Camry, thats a lesson all car companies need to study.

They're the type who wouldn't listen because they think they know everything and that they can do everything and now that their fellowmen has seen the light, they are now slowly losing because those whom they made fun of has something better than what they have.

Americans in my view are as ignorant as everyone else in the world, no more no less, that has been my experience here, no one country or continent has the majority on smarts. I manage restaurants and we hate Europeans / Asians because they are ignorant about tipping, which is big in American culture. So as I said before, were all ignorant to the same level about one another.

I understand. Europeans tend to be ignorant when it comes to small things like what you have said, tipping. Asians on the otherhand are just a bit more wise when it comes to money but they are a bit selfish at times. I know that because I am asian (Filipino).
