Replacing them wouldn't be possible without the use of a factory and they can't be recharged. The batteries run out after three years. If any aircraft are being shot down by portable AA missiles, it's something from the old Soviet Union.

@marinesallday; weapons are always updated with new technology, the stinger in MW2 is the FIM 92 F, it uses new guidence systems, a "passive" infared seeker, its "passive" because it doesnt emit radar wave in order to "see" its target

The Stinger came on to the scene around 1981, but was never actually used in combat until 1986 by the CIA backed mujahideen forces fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan. Luckily for NATO and ISAF, the Stinger hasn't resurfaced in recent years, else everybody would have given up on the war shortly after it began.

@super00su If they'd had air defences at the world trade center those planes would have come raining down over a large portion of Manhattan, possibly even causing more damage than what was done. A large number of people would have been killed anyway.

@draale but the towers would be there, i think what is more plausible is we could have had stingers out side of the island on cost guard ships, but there is no way would have been ability to find out that they were going to fly in the build before we could have shoot them down, so it dose not matter the towers were coming down that day, the only thing that could have stopped was better intellectual. If you remember they had hummer with stingers missiles post out side of DC after 9/11.

hey dude, I'm pretty sure you're basing that statement off of this video from almost 30 years ago. It's not the same missile anymore. You can put on in a fast mover's cockpit from over 3 miles. If it's loaded in an SVML you can use the common air picture and engage at more than 15k. FIRST TO FIRE

yeah it has. I re-classed in 06 and it's changed a lot since then too. The Stinger is almost phased out. There is an interim weapon system called CRAM but it's not mobile. They've been testing a short - mid range replacment since about 02 but nothing yet. STRIKE FAST KICK ASS

No, especially if they fly over and you get them from behind. Infantry are hard to see if they're hiding under trees and not in the open.
