  • This is my favourite movie, and most of all the soundtrack is the best of all movies!

  • Long live Trek

  • James Horner's soundtrack fits this movie like a fine Corinthian leather glove!

I love how you can still tell what is going on, just by listening to the tone and pacing of the soundtrack.

  • "I don't like to lose."

  • Continuing the great spirit of adventure and wonder found in STAR TREK; the second movie of the original crews' films is the most watched of my collection.

  • The scene with the torpedo is from star trek 3 I believe where they upgrade the torpedo to go after exhastion system of a cloaked ship.

  • @misekmoj star trek 6 "the undiscovered country" because the klingons had a bird of prey that could fire when cloaked. I thing 6 is extremly under rated and is actually my favorite from TOS

  • 4:49 "This is Admiral Kirk. We tried it once your way, Khan. Are you game for a rematch? Khan! I'm laughing at the Superior Intellect......"

Even though the music playing at this point was really played after Kirk said this and when this happened:

    Khan: "Full impulse power!"

Joachim: "No sir! We have Genesis -- Whatever you want --"

    Khan: "Full power....damn you!"

  • 7:29 is where Kirk yells "Evasive starboard!" I say that all the time when I drive and my daughter has no idea in hell what I'm talking about.

  • I love this. KHAAAN!

  • I love the scene for the classic Spock after Kirk and Savek talk about the regulations and then she turns to Spock and says "you lied" and Spock replies in classic Spock fashion " I exghaserated"

  • Saw it when I was in second grade! Was blown away then as I am now. Amazingly fun movie. Hell even my wife likes it and she hates scifi stuff.

  • @bulletstopper636 bullet I got one question for you. why cant we make movies as memorible and big as this anymore?

  • @22centman36 This movie was and still is today relevant and...AWE INSPIRING!

  • @22centman36 no such talent currently available @ Paramount.

  • Do you think Horner borrowed the frenetic horn playing at 7:28 from the TOS music heard here? watch?v=suqM3zExqcM#t=2m15s

  • One of the greatest movie scores. Rollercoaster of emotions. Well done Mr Horner

  • THE trek film with THE score!!!! simply a work of art from start to finish

    drop dead JJ

  • JAMES HORNER IS A GOD!!!!!

  • @sammy2trees amen!!

  • believe it or not, of all the star trek films this one was the cheapest to make. they simply reused a bunch of old movie sets. but its still the best

  • @madmike19682003 To this day, this is still the best Star Trek movie of all time.

  • Kirk: Khhhhhhhaaaaaannnnnn!!!

    Khan: Kiiiiiirrrrrkkkkk!!!

    Mc'Coy: Spppppoooocccckkkk

  • @theimpossiblers nooo!! no remake, no matter who does it, itll be ruined. no one can make Star Trek II as well as Nicholas Myer did, not even close. a re-release would be much appreciated though

  • @Prism24 if were all lucky, amc will re-release it next year for its 30th anniversary :)

  • reason the cue your talking about was different is because a cue (the strings cue, playing a part of the movie theme) just before that was repeated in the actual movie, during the added scene of the director's edition. it was remixed for that edition. but the version of the track you used was theatrical, so your video was a little off from the music after that point. no complaints tho, you could have remixed it yourself if you were aware, but its no big deal. love this track btw :)

  • I hope all you people leaving comments remember regulation 46A?!

    - If transmissions are being monitored during battle, no uncoded messages are to be transmitted on an open channel.

    ... Can't take you anywhere!

  • Amazing Score!

  • James Horner is the best!!

  • well done on this video

  • The new Star Trek has some sweet action, but nothing compared to the buildup right here. The music and imagery are both just perfect, and if you don't get goosebumps while watching this scene on a good home theater setup, you aren't human. I can only hope a digitally remastered (NOT CGI-ruined ala Star Wars Special Edition) theatrical re-release happens.

  • The greatest movie of all time!

  • Best Star Trek Composer - after the famous Star Trek motif by Alexander - Jerry Goldsmith - especially for his work in TMP - I still love the 'love' theme and of course the classic Klingon call to battle - followed by James Horner in his work for Star Trek II (perhaps his most original and best score ever). Kudos to MG on the score to the new Trek film - I've enjoyed his work over a number of genres.

  • i love the classic jerry goldsmith music but st 2/3 scores were wonderful!

  • Then again, I barely understood english then...so...perhaps I'd be more torn by the gripping dialog that was present? I doubt it...the music is paramount.

  • Case in point, I hummed this theme for years, not days...YEARS...while I played with my legos making starship enterprises. I didn't respond to the dialog, I responded to the music. Part of what made II so much better then I.

  • @polarfox1 this is the music of this scence there is no interpertation at all, do you have the soundtrack or the new version from film score monthly?

track 7 from the old gnp crasendo or fsm track 17

  • @whitestud1971 Polarfax is out of their mind! This is one of the best scene from the best movies of all time totally enhanced by James Horners outastanding score!!! This is incredible and as a student of film I am in awe of this movie and it's soundtrack, The best Trek ever made. One of the best movies ever made. Thats it.

     Carry On !

    Sophia/19/Vassar College

  • @Utubetrekk thank you very much he's obiously deaf or something

  • @whitestud1971 yw, and your vid is my featured vid , it is such a powerful clip, thanks again for sharing a great piece of cinema!!!

    Sophia!

  • @polarfox1 With regards to these scenes, the music made them. The refrain "music is supposed to make the scenes" is what you are told in film school, and it's utter bullshit, in most cases, the music MAKES the scene.

  • @polarfox1

    garbage, poor choice of words-

    way to capsloc.

comments are supposed to say something about the video.

not go and flame the shit out of the clip, and take the audience hostage while verbally throwing up that shit.

    that's it

    carry on

    thanks!

  • @polarfox1 Pathetic troll is pathetic.

  • James Horner (the composer) makes a cameo on the right side of the screen from 2:11 to 2:14.

  • This is the best all around Star Trek movie ever made, and certainly the most moving!

I could never get sick of The Wrath of Khan while I already have the "new" reboot.

  • The logic of two men over one woman...uuh...separate argument.

AWESOME MOVIE!!! Do a remake or I will go mad.

  • This was the best and goriest Star Trek movie up to date. That's why it's the best one.

  • 14 people should be exiled on seti alpha 5

  • @joeylodes Kirk is "Laughing at the 'superior intellect'" of 14 others.

  • no savik in the new movie she wont be born

  • James Horner's greatest triumph

  • thought bubbles are so compelling. really adds to the mood

  • Classic the Aplle eating scene "I don't like to loose"

Well we all know what happened to Khan after that don't we?

  • @mart270 The genesis machine gave him supernatural power and he became a demigod.

  • Loved the new Star Trek but have to agree this is the best one hands down

  • no updates?

  • Clearly James Horner has a tremendous influence from the great Gustuv Holst.

  • @JJNJ732 ... and Serge Prokofiev. There are lots of segments in Star Trek III that are lifted from his Romeo and Juliet suite.

  • One of my all time favorite movies and some of the best composed music ever. I love this.

  • Shame that voice is missing, but still an epic scene!

  • Horner's music for TWOK is absolutely incredible, maybe the best symphonic soundtrack ever written. It's a very complex piece, with lots of different motifs, themes and narratives. And the climax of the whole thing are the battle sequences: perfectly orchestrated, and totally thrilling. This video is also extremely well done. Wow!

  • Whitestud have you any I dea is to why KHAN is spelt K-H-A-N ?

    and the kahn ?

  • @whitemanstand72 Very simple. The character's original name was Khan Noonien Singh, presumably of indian descent. Of course, back in 1968, casting directors were more or less tone deaf about ethnic differences. They figured most people wouldn't care that a Mexican actor was playing an presumably Indian character. Nowadays, they couldn't get away with it, although "The Last Airbender" and the "Prince of Persia" movie allegedly tried to get away with it.

  • @cubdukat YOu have missed Entirly the point I was making

I never said anything about the casting memebers being mexican and playing Indian roles.

Geez you people will do anything including being dishonest yourself just to defend trek !

  • I love this movie!!!!!! Prob seen it more than 20 times and it never gets old! As for a remake, maybe Antonio Banderas as Khan? Still, It would be a pale comparison to Montalban, but maybe not too bad.

  • @BigNick419andholding I don't know. The character was presumably supposed to be Indian, and there are plenty of up and coming Indian actors who could take the role--and no, Kal Penn shouldn't even read for it. I was thinking maybe Anil Kapoor (President Hassan on "24") or Abishek Bachchan, Big B's son. Somehow, I suspect that once again, that'll probably never occur to Paramount or J. J. Abrams.

  • Correct! The first movie was wildly anticipated by millions of Trekkers (like myself). However, coming out of the theater afterwards, it was like I had been at a 2 1/2 hour funeral. Critics at the time (and even today) panned the film as boring and leaden. Movie execs told themselves that ST may have had some following in the '60s, but now it was dead. Listen to Nick Meyer's comments on the dvd-it was with GREAT reluctance that Paramount decided to give ST a second chance, hence "Khan".

  • if they redo space seed i will be realy pissed 0ff wtf would they even do that for they need to get their own ideas & fix the mess they made fuck j.j.

  • I actually heard from friends inside the industry that the new Star Trek fanchise is redoing "Space Seed" for its second movie starring Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock as Khan.

  • Dwayne Johnson would make a terrible Khan!

  • This movie LITERALLY saved the Star Trek franchise! After the resounding thud of the first movie, if this one would have failed that would have been the last of Trek. No more Star Trek films, no Next Generation, no Voyager, DS9, Enterprise.

  • Comment removed

  • That movie is way better than the new star trek movie.

  • @Locateson thats because the focus is on the story not the phsycial features of the actors, teh sets or even the technology. The story comes first and is treated with care. Then, we the other stuff is layered in. .

  • @22centman36 JJ Abrams' Star Trek was still pretty good.

  • @thesyfychannel15 I cant stand Jj ABrams version. It was too candy cornish and not enough good drama. I have to disagree with you.

  • khan im laughing at the superior intellect

  • full impulse power! damn you!

  • @brickman73 "His pattern indicates linear thinking."

  • 1. Did you HAVE to block the Enterprice with your thought bubble?

    2. As for entering my text in the thought bubble: "SHWIIIIIIIISH!"

    3. The music is a little off at the end there, Chumley. Have you gotten your copy of the new extended STII: TWOK soundtrack yet? It fills in that silent part there at the end where the ships are approaching each other with the music only heard in the film, until now.

Big thanks to Retrograde Records & Filmscore for kicking that CD downs our way!

  • I should update this version keep an eye out in the future containing FSM version

  • @whitestud1971 while you update change kahn into khan

    Its kinda embarressing !

  • @whitemanstand72 Yeah. Khan is a title and not his actual name.

  • @dixievfd55

erm no that is his name

Khan is a name not a title

God do you people understand where he's from ?

  • @Lx3IV A LIL OFF..IT IS JAMES CRAP HORNER

  • @Lx3IV MAKES ONE WANT TO PAY RETAIL FOR THIS STUFF. ONE IT REALLY SHOWS THAT PROBABLY A SIMPLE MISTAKE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY CHECKING ONE'S WORK PRIOR TO MAKING ONE A FOOL.

    CARRY ON

    THANKS

  • 6:20 - 6:40 FTW!

  • What's the problem at the time marker?9

  • The timing's out...which is not really abnormal, as soundtracks in movies are generally played faster then the soundtracks released for sale.

  • IMHO, this is THE BEST version of the Starship Enterprise and this is THE BEST Star Trek movie to date. The reboot (JJ Abrams' movie) was good (better than any of the TNG movies I have to say). I can only hope that they can work the proper chemistry between the characters & develop as good a storyline/plotline as The Wrath of Khan (of course, w/o Ricardo Montalban, any actor they get to play Khan will only be a pale imitation), then the reboot will be something worth watching. Here's hoping. . .

  • A comment from someone who was watching TV Sep 8, 1966--yes, I am that old!! I agree! Good re-boot of the show!

  • I agree but the new trek is all new due to the fact of the plot pints with nero and Spock this is a new trek "reimagining" as you will

  • @whitestud1971 I wasn't trying to put down the reimagined Enterprise from JJ Abrams's Star Trek. It's actually a decent-looking ship (the designers took cues from the Enterprise in STII:TWOK which I like). It's just that it didn't seem like the ship got enough screen time & didn't really get to "show off the goods". I understand why it didn't - the movie was more about "setting the stage" so-to-speak for future sequels. I'm interested to see where they take the franchise in upcoming movies.

  • Okay maybe misunderstood what you meant, I agree with you there, but atleast they gave the ship a much larger hull than the series, but I don't rember the series original hull capacity, if you put them side by side how much of a difference or equality would there be?

  • @whitestud1971 Standard crew compliment of a Constitution-class starship was somewhere in the ballpark of 400. I'd say the compliment of the re-imagined Enterprise is somewhere in that neighborhood as well. Based on what we've been able to see of it, I don't know if the ship is any larger than the WOK ship. I'd estimate it is very similar in size, but unless they put them side-by-side, it's hard to get a good perspective to make a sound judgment of scale & size.

  • @whitestud1971

TOS = about the size of a modern air craft carrier

New = little smaller than the enterprise E (Which is much, much larger than the TOS enterprise.

  • @tchapman1977 Then I will put it down for you compared to this version of the Enterprise and Star Trek in general, this movie TWOK takes me along for a ride heart and soul that the so called new Trek does not even come close to, oh and by the way, I am female/19/Vassar student. :)

So exciting and touch a movie is this, enhanced by the score no doubt, but it all so good.

  • @RaynaKapek I agree that TWOK is by far the best Star Trek movie to come out before or since. Ricardo Montalban was the absolute best choice for portraying Khan. No other actor can really hold a candle to the intensity & skill that Mr. Montalban was able to put into that character. The plot/script was top-notch & the musical score was excellent. No movie today can top that & everything else pales in comparison. It has been & always shall be my favorite - to use a quote from the movie...lol.

  • @tchapman1977 Agree with you 100%. Infact, I think this PARTICULAR version of the Enterprise (Refit) is THE best Enterprise, including the bridge layout. The softer colors of 1701-A kind of took something away, and I never really cared for the bridge.

  • @spins321 I actually liked the Enterprise-A & its bridge (at least the one in the Undiscovered Country, that is) pretty much as well as the WOK ship & bridge. I will say, however, that I didn't much care for the looks of the Enterprise-D or its bridge but it did get better with the Enterprise-E but this ship & its bridge will always & forever be my favorite. Also, to me at least, the Enterprise just isn't the Enterprise w/o Kirk in the captain's chair & Spock & McCoy at his side.

  • @tchapman1977 You like the Abrams version?? Say good bye to your credibility.

  • @MrGrevy Compared to TNG ships? Then yes I do (I assume you are referring to the ship, not the movie). I like that the Abrams Enterprise retains some of the design features I loved in the Enterprise-refit from TWOK. As for the Abrams ST movie, it wasn't bad (though there were some plot elements that didn't jibe so well--for instance, how the heck can a cadet be promoted to Captain straight out of the academy?) & it'll be interesting to see how they progress the reboot in subsequent movies.

  • @tchapman1977 I hated the new film. It was horrible. All action and CGI. Characters didn't work. Plot was utterly nonsensical even for Star Trek. Nero's motivation was an insult to the audience's intelligence. Kirk was portrayed horribly as well. THey had a chance to do something REALLY cool with Trek but they sold out for a hollywood cookie-cutter movie. Shameful.

  • @MrGrevy You're certainly entitled to your opinion. Compared with some of the other movies produced lately (namely the Star Wars prequel trilogy), Abrams' ST reboot could have been a lot worse. Keep in mind the movie set the stage...how they progress from this point will determine whether it gets better or not & be worth watching. As for the CGI, they're using it in pretty much every movie made nowadays...you're just going to have to accept that as a fact. Don't know what else to tell ya.

  • @tchapman1977 A cadet might be exemplary in his studies(or on field duty, as in the movie) and be trained specifically to be a captain and be promoted straight to captain

Don't worry if this doesn't make sense....

  • one of the greatest ship to ship battles ever filmed, pirates against the navy's finest.

  • Star Trek II is the epiteme of how a Star Trek movie should be. The characters are great, acting good, direction superb, music exillerating and story exciting. I hope they incorporate more of this in the new Star Trek II (or XII if you like)!

  • at 2:14 thats james horner as one of the crewman..he is the last on the right.

  • This one was so good that they basically used it for the last half hour of Star Trek Nemesis. Basically a 24th century remake of this one. Picard even tries to reach a nebula.

  • "To the last, I will grapple with thee... from Hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!"

  • full impulse power!

  • Khan,

Im laughing at the superior intellect.

  • This is the best Sci Fi movie of all time bar Star Wars

  • @mailwin72: 100% agree. Many would say (including me) that this is the best Trek movie ever...and thats including the JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot. But I also say this is as close to a perfect si-fi film as we will see. Perfect story, dialog, action, humor and depth. One of my favorite si-fi films of all time.

  • JJ's Star Trek film is not even one of the better ones. I'd put 2, 4, and 6 above it, and maybe some of the others.

It looks good, and it's certainly better than the worst Star Trek movies, but it's a meaningless action flick. There's nothing going on underneath the explosions.

  • @txmoney I totally agree too. This is the movie that got me into Star Trek in the first place! I really liked the idea that it follows on from the Space Seed in the original series and they bring Khan back from the 60's into the 80's with a major movie.

  • Star Wars is not sci fi it's fantasy or a fairy tale with special effects rather

  • I love them both. But i love the character of Kirk so ill go with this as the king of Sci Fi movies

  • better than any star wars movie I would say

  • CRY HAVOC

  • James Horner is actually one of the crew on the Enterprise during this scene.

  • where Sesin97

  • He's one of the crew members running down the hallway as the Enterprise is preparing for battle. I think it is at the 2:07 mark.

  • I loved this because the tactic was simplicity itself. Make the enemy think what you want them to. I want my voices. I can't find this scene?

  • Fantastic music in this film.

An excellent soundtrack really does make a good film. I would go as far to say that half a good film is it's music.

Where would the likes of Jaws, Jurassic Park, Bon films be without their identifying and memorable soundtracks like this film has.

  • I'm not a Trekkie or a geek or anything, but this movie is one of the greatest films ever made; not just one of the best Trek films, or sci-fi films, but one of the all time greats. Also a brilliant score!

  • @10072018 sure you're not a trekkie lol. just like i'm not ;)

  • This movie had some of the best music!

  • KKKKHHHHHHAAAAANNNNNNN!

  • Set the score to sync with the film, but leave out the dialog so we can hear it. Thats so simple its brilliant. Thanks for this upload. :)

  • I actually grew up watching "The ABC Cut" that my family had taped at least twice a week when I was a kid, so apart from a few bits of gore (Scotty holding Peter Preston was trimmed) the vast majority of scenes that were reinserted for the Director's Cut DVD I felt were *missing* when I received the 1 - 6 VHS Widescreen Boxset or Giftmas in the mid-'90s (the same thing with TMP - the version in the boxset *wasn't* the "Added Footage" version, so "Spock Weeping" was part of the movie for me..

  • I rember that too I guess back then they deemed that as 'volence' or 'adult situation'

  • ...and true, considering the "Family Friendly" vibe Trek has for the most part - those were the days long before warnings on TV. but I'm sure now TWoK wouldn't be cut but *would* get a bunch of letters that I have no clue what they stand for. ;-)

But as for the preboot (cool term, I claim credit :) movies TWoK is absolutely the best. James Horner thinks so, since he's been reusing his score in *all* his other movies since!

  • Wonderful...thanks for posting one of the best Trek songs, and one of the best Trek battles.

  • "Full power !!!! DAMN YOU !!!!!!!!!!!! "

  • One of my favorite parts is the music and scene at 0:55. Thanks for posting

  • thanx so much ! been looking for this for ages ! hats off to u whitestud1971

  • muy muy bueno gracias

  • Wrath of Kahn is a great Star Trek movie, but in a way I like all the "Kirk crew," movies best. I guess they did get a little sentimental after, but the actors used to treat every sequel that came next as their last film.

  • I think the reason it's a little different is because unlike where you cut out the scene with them climbing the jeffrey's (or is it jeffries) tube, you forgot to cut out the clip between Spock and Savik about "the human ego". The music doesn't line up because when Horner scored the movie, he did it based upon the original version that was on screen - that scene had been cut. So the music doesn't match up because that scene ends up running a little longer.

  • What time code is human ego at

  • It starts at 3:58 until David comes in.

I have never seen the director's cut. Is it neato watching them climb the Jeffries tubes?

What do they do about the music in these added scenes? Do they chop it and add in repeated bits?

  • The best Star Trek movie all around, even it's soundtrack score was the best.

  • I agree. The Wrath of Khan is imo the best original Star Trek movie, and it even has the best score. Though my favourite original Star Trek movie continues to be The Undiscovered Country. Partially because of nostalgic reasons. It was one of the first movies I ever saw and the first star trek movie I saw. At least as far as I can recall.

  • 5:54 "Hey, don't touch me!"

  • Great video - you really appreciate the soundtrack - would be nice to have the same clip with the speaking too..

  • thank you.... nice video

  • rfjason, you turd, this clip is about the MUSIC. Not how well edited and syncd up it is with the actual movie you jackass.

  • Yes this is the director's cut

  • Which point? I had the director's cut with the old soundtrack

  • 3:57 to 4.13 approx is not in the original. It cuts from kirk saying "they just dont want us to go in there" to david walking onto the bridge.

  • Brilliant film one of my all time favourites shame they dont make movies like this anymore...

  • Even after watching this movie, literally, a hundred times I still find myself yelling "Raise the shields !! " to Kirk when the newly hijacked Reliant with Khan commanding catches up to the Enterprise in the surprise attack scene.

So very re-watchable. A hallmark of any great movie.

  • and one that stands the test of time.

  • One of the best scenes in any film ever! Cracking suspense and build-up.

  • Agreed.

    Wolfe

  • Agreed.

  • Star Trek II transcends "science fiction". It's one of the best movies of all time, of any genre, period. Amazing acting. A rock solid cast. A simple but timeless plot line of revenge, rediscovery, and redemption. And what more can you say about the soundtrack except magnificent ?

Also for a movie of it's age, notice how realistic and lifelike the ship models are and battle scenes ? With no CGI

  • I concur!!

  • Hell yes! Seriously, they need to ditch all these damn Apple computers and use good old fashioned models again!

  • Well yes models are superior because they are..well.. REAL. Light reflects off them the way it should, etc etc. CGI just looks too good. You would not be able to make out every window and port from 10 miles away in real life.

All the great Sci Fi ships have been real models. Star Wars. Star Trek ( older ). The Fleet Marine ship in Aliens. The Roger Young , Starship Troopers was an especially detailed 15 foot long model with collapsing decks. Etc etc etc

  • i disagree with propostris; i love the first terminator; where you there when it first came out? police station shoot out? nothing comes close to the hardness; my number #1 sci fi movie would have to be Aliens

  • im dissappointed with all you so-called trekies out there! i thought it would be easy to find the whole movie on here but not one of you have posted the full movie......you guys are slacking in your old age...lol

  • sorry to dissapoint slimithy 12, it's just a music video tribute!

  • i know it was just a joke....great video anyway....thanks

  • a tribute with only the single best battle score in Trek history!

  • Best Trek Film. Best Trek Score. Shame the music does run out of sync with footage. Have you got the audio for the extra chat between Kirk and Spock about 4-mins in?

  • Does anyone have this scene without music but with the actuall audio??
