  • What album is this from?

  • Legend is awesome!

  • Hi everyone! Check out my cover of Ordinary People and plese, let me know what you think!! I hope you like it =)

  • I love John Legend. Everything he does is totally classy and perfectly done. Todd Rundgren, though, is unique and rare. The music he wrote and his musicianship and soul have few comparisons. I can't think of one right now. So, they are different but Kudo's (whatever that means) for John to sing this piece.

  • @gdwozz Legend is the definition of "class"... Soulfully Classy!

  • Can't wait to see this "LEGEND" in September. He definitely has a one of a kind voice. Nice try on this classic.

  • Whoa! Nice Job! Hot Rundgren done right! Thanks John.

  • @rpscot Ditto.

  • this would've been a LOT better if he would've done it just sitting at the piano playing it. instead of adding in a bassline and everything else to it

  • The original sucks, and every remix to it will ultimately suck as well.

  • @utubesuckssomuch you deserve to burn in hell

  • Legend singing this too weak.......He's better than this!

  • This song still stands no matter who sings it! For me, the Isley version will always be the best. Ron Isley sings his soulful face off live or on vinyl!

  • This song still stands no matter who sings it! For me, the Isley version will always be the best. Ron Isley sings his soulful face off live or on vinly!

  • Very nice cover of Todd Rundgren's great song.

  • Todd Rundgren is a great songwriter who has had a lot of his tunes covered over the years. John does a nice job on this one. He is certainly worthy since he wrote a timeless song himself in "Ordinary People". I love the Isley Brothers soul take on it the best. Mary J did an OK job too. I wish a relevant artist and producer would cover Todd's "Love is the Answer". It's time to do it.

  • Todd Rundgren FTW. I'm saddened by a lot of people covering artists like Rundgren, Hall & Oates, etc, but their fans never knowing where the music came from. Even Jeff Buckley has been covered by artists with largely black fan bases, but if you tried to get those same fans to listen to the original artists, they'd turn their noses up. When are we going to accept great talent for what it is? The Isleys did a lovely version of this song, as did Mary J, Groove Theory and others... but it's Todd's

  • john legen is marvin gaye reborn!!

  • i lovin it

  • Sing Baby. This is sweet, real sweet. I think I will wear baby blue on July 24, 11! I feel like the color of the sky.

  • Isleys RECORDED it, but it was written in 1970 or so by Todd Rundgren.

  • This is actually and Isley brothers song from 1974. But it is still a good song.

  • it atest to a songs greatness, when different artist can make it sound so true to their version as to make it seem it belongs to them. a wonderful song and performance.

  • ugh i love john legend , his voice just gets me weak in my knee swv lol.

  • As good as always

  • I love all 3 versions but this one just got me

  • belayer thhat is the biggest bullshit iv ever heard!!!!! u obviously have no ear for music and are extermely biest!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A little light for my taste, but I so dig him as an "original" artist. I prefer the isley brothers and todd rundgren's version personally.

  • LAME- LAME- LAME- EVABODEE KNOW YA NAME.

  • What makes a classic is it's ability to be appreciated through out history. A classic is covered and interpreted WELL by many therfore reaching a multitude of people the orignal artist would never be able to reach. As a lover of music and people it is awesome to hear diversity in song and artist...we all should leave it there and let flowers bloom where they may.

  • WOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!! UMMM UMMM GOOD. WHAT AN AMAAAZING VOICE FILLED WITH PASSION AND OUT OF THIS WORLD SKILL SET....THE LEGEND OF "JOHN".

  • Mr. Legend is just a major star. Hecko. So is Todd. I think they meet half way into the beauty.

  • My era was the seventies. I am a 40 something, and that a modern singer appreciates Todd Rundgren enough to cover him impresses and cheers me.

  • There seems to be a double standard....when a white entertainer covers a black entertainers song it is "stealing" ....they accused Elvis of this for years and he only covered a few black songs....but if a black man covers a white mans song he is innovative and soulful.....an example would be Ray Charles biggest selling album ever was all remakes of country hits ...I get tired of the hypocrisy sometimes

  • @jmallton I can understand why you feel there is hypocrisy at work sometimes. Some people express it in a way that can't appear to be anything else. However, there was justified resentment that goes back to a time when black artists made pennies and watched whites take their music and make millions, often even being cheated out of royalties. In Elvis' case, elements of his style were new to a white audience who thought it was more original than it was. Simply covering a song is not stealing.

  • @emmettk Are you referring to when Chuck Berry stole over 50 songs from his long-time piano player Jimmy Johnson? Im not so sure you are correct in saying it was stealing....it was the way of the world at that time. It could definitely be called unfair if a black artist was paid $100 for a song that made the record company $100,000......Im sure the record execs knew what they were doing....but the industry was young

  • @jmallton The second part of your statement indicates to me that whether you agree or not, you at least understand my point. The first part about Chuck Berry whether true or not, has nothing to do anything I said. I was not even aware of that issue and it neither applies to or negates my statement.

  • To each it's own, but hands down the Isley brothers is my Favorite!! Though I love John Legend...

  • Todd Rundgren's original will always be my favorite, but this is one of the best non-Todd version I've ever heard.

  • Groove Theory's version is my personal favorite. However, this is good. I appreciate Todd Rungren's original, and the Isley Brothers' cover too. Bottom line: GREAT SONG!

  • @LAWoman323213 Yes, great song...and great comment!

  • Not bad at all. Laid back and mellow.

  • beautiful

  • Todd Rundgren's original "Hello It's Me" is one of my all time favorites, but John Legend's cover is orgasmic. There just aren't enough artists like John Legend out there today.

  • Todd Rundgren's original "Hello It's Me" is one of my all time favorites, but John Legend's cover is orgasmic.

  • beautiful cover of the good old todd! :)

  • Amazing....where can u get this song? I'm looking for it like 2 months and cannot find where to download/buy....would appreciate any help, thanks:)

  • @janeysh It's from a Gap Favorites CD that Gap stores distributed with your purchase about 4 years ago, maybe more. It's not even on iTunes.

  • i love the isley bros rendition more than any

  • ahaha i saw that todd your all so inlove with xD duud realyy?

    REALLYY

john legend saved this song :P

    im just sayin

  • New single : Mariah Carey feat John Legend - Baby love in my channel

  • i prefer this version than the original...amazing and mellow song. good work johnny

  • Great version.

  • I love this video-----I love anyone, who does Todd's work.....Sure, it's not Todd, but John, it's a nice take on it!!! "Andy Pandy" :0)

  • Disappointed in John. He did one song that was good cause he borrowed The Classic IV melody and gave credit with a little arm twisting but now he just screws up a great song. How does Utopia feel now Todd? Hey I don't care but Edrice91 loves to see hateration going on and I like to please.

  • The problem is, it is not a dance song...so you gotta lose the big beat. Rundgren's is so much better.

  • A Rundgren Classic, big ups to John Legend.

  • who song this before the Isleys?

  • Can't knock the original but the best rendition hands down Isley brothers. Ronald sang the mess out this song sorry...

  • ..my dads better den yer dad...not!...waaaaa...meuw...

  • Can't believe how many so call music fans think the artists of the 90's created the whole R&B vibe, real soul goes back years and year - this was an Isley brothers tune, the original from the 70's the real era of soul. When the likes of Mary J Blige actually wrights a classic she can call her own instead of covering anything and everything, then i suppose i'll have to eat my hat, but until then, all you 90's R&B fans do me a favour, check the sample credits it's bound to be from the 70's classic

  • @25535 Gee, maybe you should check some "credits" yourself ..... The Isley's covered this great Todd Rundgren song. He's the genius behind it, did it first (Nazz & solo), and I surely count him amongst the greatest soul singers ever.

  • @vampyros1 Hey bitch...Mark David Chapman is up for Parole. Let's party dewd...twist and shout....blah blah blah

  • @beaupeep1 Right, and thanks for contributing. Now go play with your gerbils bath house boy-

  • @vampyros1 No...that was John Lennon who did that...asshole

  • Check Mary J. Blige's version it's tight! this one is slow and boring. I love Todd's and Mary's.

  • this guy has a really cool voice ~.~ so suave~~~~

  • When will we get over this"color" crap- music is all colors blended together, shaken up, and thrown out into the Universe, to produce joy ,inspiration, and healing- Todd and John know it- all great artists do- Check yourselves.

  • I love John Legend, however this is not his best. It's dry and lacks energy. I still love you John. Just one of those days I guess. :)

  • Love that Todd's song has been interpreted by a young artist. Beautiful tribute to the great Todd Rundgren. Sorry I never heard it before.

  • Awesome...love love love it! Phew.! Alot of heart and soul here!!!

Thank you Edrice91 for an awesome post!

  • Amel Larouix did a good cpver

  • NICE!!!

  • I like John Legend; listen to all of his albums on a regular basis, so don't dismiss me as a hater. But this version does not compare to Rundgren's version. I could put that song on a loop and listen to it all day.

  • This guy has a very original voice. A nice, calm, raspy, tranquil voice. Which is a rare combo.

  • i tell you what, he's got a better chance of spending the night than todd did.

  • I saw John L on Real Time and he was really cool, but here and lots others I've heard of his he sounds like he's just copying Stevie Wonder . He is talented though.

  • Good effort man..you are good at what you do...but Todd rules!

    ;)

    goddtoddgoddtodd!!

    It rocks easy...sounds all right..

but Todd is all about change.

He's already changed the world for the better in so many ways people don't seem to understand or recognize.

  • Nice effort but John needs to get in line behind Todd & Isley Brothers.

  • Sorry great try John, but you butchered a classic! No one does this better than Ron!

  • boring Todd's origional version better

  • Sorry, I like Todd's origional version better

  • my respect level for john legend went THROUGH the roof!! Todd Rundgren is one of my favorite artists of all time. It makes me happy when artists take influence from artists of other genres :)

  • I saw Todd Rundgren in concert at the fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta 30+ years ago and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen...and I've seen hundreds. Nobody sings it like Todd!

  • i really lkes this song when paul giamtti sung it on the movie " duets " ... loves that movie

  • I actually like the Nazz version best, but this ain't bad at all...

  • alright cover it sounds a bit cabaret

  • COPY & PASTE >>>>> Regal - I Need You

  • gard man hard

  • Good version but Todd's is the best no disputing that.

  • he put so much feeling in it.

  • Legend takes it on a lower key than the Isleys or the two Todd Rundgren originals. It's disorienting.

  • Loving it - Thank You

  • its a philly thing!

  • I LOVE JOHN LEGEND!!

  • and he's super cool!

  • My hat goes of to John Legend. He's extremely talented. However, I have to say the original is still a great clasic. Todd Rundgrand made it what it is which is why artists like John show their resepect for it. Both artists are great!

  • But the Isleys did it the best

  • I might have to disagree...Todd Rundgren did it best.

  • We have our opinions....

But The isleys did the song better...they also did "Twist and Shout" better than the Beatles.

  • @beaupeep1 Are you kidding US? Lennon slapped 'em and sent 'em home w/Twist & Shout. And noone does this half as good as Rundgren.

  • Comment removed

  • @beaupeep1 Evidently you've never really checked a dictionary ... it's spelled "delusional", and the Isley's don't approach the Beatle's in soulfulness or sales.

  • @vampyros1 The Beatles brainwashed the world through Marketing. I don't worship them...never did. They did some decent songs...but i never liked Lennon. His voice was too nasaly for me...

And to say that the Isley's don't approach the Beatles in soulfulness is just ludicrous (oh...be sure to check your Thesaurus or dictionary to double check my spelling, love)...for you to say that indicates that you don' t have that much soul...(sole maybe, as in filet...or maybe at the bottom of yer shoe)

  • @beaupeep1 Wow, 4 posts inside 25 minutes from you, you must REALLY know how wrong you are ... convinced yourself the Beatles and Rundgren didn't tower over the Isley's yet? LOL btw, I see you removed your idiotic spelling of 'delusional'. Kind of embarrassing, huh? "sole maybe, as in filet...or maybe at the bottom of yer shoe" Now that's really edgy. LOL yawn You may return to your 'soulful' Millie Vanillie records. Class dismissed-

  • Comment removed

  • @beaupeep1 And what are you doing...jacking off on your computer with all the Isley praise? Isley) was ok...not great...but ok. Comparing that vocal to Lennon is like listening to a bull moose in mating season.

  • @vampyros1 Rundgren was and still is a wimp. Twist and shout was originally done by the Isleys...and it is the far superior version. For anyone to suggest that John Lennon sang this song better than Ron Isley is obviously suffering from decades of earwax build up in the inner (and outer) ear. As far as Lennon slapping folks and sending them home is concerned, Lennon and the boys never slapped anyone in their lives (or if they did, it was with a wet dishrag).

  • @vampyros1 "Lennon slapped 'em and sent 'em home"... LOL!!!!!!!!!! I got to commend you on your sense of humor. I can't imagine (no pun...or maybe it is) Lennon slapping anyone around. I can see his ass getting slapped around. This is truly funny.

  • this man is so talented;

every single song he sings sounds like birds singing, he makes them sound so warm :)

  • magic!!

  • Honestly i think he is better than todd rundgren plus todd is kinda weird haha

  • King, not really appropriate. This is about Todd and his connection with John. Check out Todd's original with his Philly band Nazz. Super slow, four part harmony, Todd was like 17 when he wrote it. He's playing the guitar and the Vibes on the jam. Mary J. covered it, and so did the Isley's. Need I say more? Popular music as art.

  • wow you sound stupid , it's a honor for any artist to have their song redone no matter what their color is. Please try to have something intelligent to say instead of leaving a negative comment that makes you seem like a world class jack ass.

  • A great song is timeless.

  • Love it. This is more of a remake of the Isley Brother's remake. "Don't change, don't change" rather than "Think of me, think of me"

  • interesting version, very al green(ish) on the production approach. i enjoy JL quite a bit, he's a very talented person. i love that he covered such a beautiful song and brought it into the listening world of some listener that may have never heard the original from Nazz or Todd's remake. seems unfair to a beautiful performance and interpretation to compare it to the original of 2nd version, Legend probably just loves the song so he respectfully chose to cover it....it's beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • oh man. I have got to get this cd. I'm lovin' the "old made new" vibe. These are great songs with a sweet contemporary flavor on top. Love it.

  • I congratulate John Legend on his excellent taste in choosing to cover Todd Rundgren's beautiful song. And by the way, not every version has to sound like Todd. This version is quite groovy all on its own, to borrow a compliment from the 1960's.

  • only todd can sing this only, everybody leave this song alone, for todd only please.

  • @nasserdeen1 have you seen the recent videos of Todd singing this song? He acts like he hates doing it nowadays and treats it like a joke, "why am I still doing this song after 40 years"...of course the fans still love it.

  • Comment removed

  • Nasserdeen, it's a homage. It goes to show how great the song truly is.

  • I agree, pretty bland.....

  • Good arrange, but no one sings it like Todd.

    Thanks for share.

  • After listening to Nazz & Todd Lundgren's version, John is a disappointment. He added people snapping fingers and calls it a reinvention. Sorry. Back to the drawing board, John. Love ya still.

  • raely good song

  • it is todds song he does it better. even though i love john legend but it isnt the same.

  • loovely......

    i love this man..lol

  • John made quite a bland version - Mary J Blidge's cover has more essence

  • Maravilhosa....Depois te muitos anos surgiu um grande nome do soul music

  • cover. =[

  • i love all the hateration going on here

    its amusing as hell

  • @Edrice91 you are a andsome man

  • Groove Theory did a great cover of this song on their 1995 debut album.

  • I would marry this man in a heartbeat.... So fine and such a goegeous voice...

  • god thats hillarious man

  • @catchersmitt0 there are plenty of them :)

  • do you know if john legend has Compilation albums?

  • I like Todds version best but Im glad John covered =] different styles

  • I'm sorry but the Isleys version hands down has my vote. However, it's a beautiful job and in their own way- they do an excellent job

  • huh? this is a todd rundgren masterpiece

    todd wrote this song

  • yup.

  • Thank you! Todd Rundgren not the Isleys. Though he is doing a cover of the Isley's cover, Its Todds song. And Todd performs it the best.

  • omg his vioce makes me melt he is so sexy if i was older oooo i would die if he ever sung to me

  • Omfg Stop Hating you Haters wish u could sing like rlly get over urselfs

  • Being an amazing singer has nothing to do with how good your covers are.

That said, I like this cover. haha

  • Crappy cover. Todd RULES!

  • It's funny that this was the version I've always been listening to untill now. Both version are amazing.

  • Dirty boy needs to shut up and quit hatin! John Legend is his own and always brings heart.

  • Todd's version ...SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!

  • Hey, I love the Isleys just as much as everyone else and I have to say he did a good job... At least he didn't throw a rap behind a classic like this.

  • i think he did an exellent job,hes singin from the heart thats all u could ask for

  • Love it! 10*

  • this version is a joke compared to the original todd rundgren version. the song wasnt meant to have the same boring drum machine in the back with elevator music to go with it. granted john legend is astounding but this is not his area.

  • lol in my opinion he can certainly mess up a good song.He has his own unique style that's not very compatible with a lot songs.Have you heard his version of Smokey's "Quiet Storm"? Don't worry about it lol

  • dude give it a rest !

  • Todd's version has that weird swirly 70's mojo magic vibe that cant be recreated. Much like Bee Gees
