Thanks for sharing this video. I am a newly certified TR Instructor and have some doubts and fears about teaching....then I came across your video which helped me a lot!
A couple of months ago, I started a volunteer job at a therapeutic riding center for kids AND adults with mental and/or physical disabilities. I'm 13 years old now, and it amazes me how a child can become more able on a horse. They smile, they tell the horse to walk on, and it's all so amazing. I've seen non-verbal riders communicate.. with words. I've seen trust. I have even seen physically challenged riders lift up their arms to reach bells. Kids w/ back issues sit up. All I think is, miracle.
@heartloc3, I am also 13 and volunteer at a theraputic riding center, and It is so fun to see the amazing changes that the horses can make, like you said seeing kids go from non-verbal to speaking, from being in a wheel chair to walking. One of my favorite studens started as a shy non-verbal and now she is a little chatterbox who isn't shy what so ever. One of my other favorites started out not being able to sit up on the horse without being held up and now she rides with no support.
What a beautiful, moving video. I just wish everyone could see it. They would all want to join a program. I'm a volunteer in a program and also the sister of a special needs child who I call specially gifted. He has taught everyone about the true meaning of life with his gifts.. loving, laughing, crying and appreciating life to the fullest.
I work with the horses that are used for therapeutic riding and it is amazing to see what a difference it makes in the kids lives to be on a horse. Every time that i walk the horse around the arena i feel so great that i can help people do things that they thought was impossiable for them to do.
this sure did make me cry! I can't tell you how much my horse has helped me! People tell me that all horses are good for is wasting grass and hay! well they are wrong they have never been to a therapeutic horseback riding academy I hope that when i am old enough i can start my own up. God bless you and all of your Eqine friends!
