@3625cuban about the no back pressure, i have an 05 evo with an HKS Ti-C catback and im wanting it to be louder. im thinking about a test pipe. but my old eclipse with a test pipe had really bad boost creep and it was said to be because of no back pressure. and im pretty sure that the evo and gst eclipse have the same exact engines. my question is will i have boost creep on my evo if i install a test pipe?
@H311RA151N A GST and an Evo don't have the "same exact" engine. They're both 4g63t engines yes. But Evos have better pistons and better short block machining, so they're less prone to crankwalking than a 7 bolt DSM. And the head is slightly different than a 2g DSM and faces the opposite direction. To answer your question, no a test pipe won't cause boost creep. Reducing back pressure on a turbo car is a good thing. Check your wastegate for your boost creep issue.
How'd you do those tails? take them off n spray tint? I have the stock 8 tails right now and was either gonna do them red like the 7's or black them out.
Sounds good, but isn't stock 4"? Why take it down to a 3"? I guess you don't need the extra inch to decrease back pressure because there isn't any after the cat/muffler/resonator delete?
@siredline09 I must have gotten ripped off because my evos only a 2.0 liter. Wonder why buschur racing only sells a stage 3 built 2.0 liter block. Makes me wonder these days.
NA cars need back pressure. The more you free up a turbo car the more hp you get. I have since added a resonator to the exhaust to make it a little deeper
Wrong The less back pressure the faster the spool. I have gained 300 rpms with this exhaust with stock turbo. Do a little google search and read the facts. :) It helps low end mid and top.
The second you hit WOT at any rpm you will start to build boost and the less resistance you have in the exhaust the easier the exhaust flows through the hot side allowing for the turbo to spool faster. So in fact it helps at low rpm to get boost. And no turbo car is n/a at any point in time.
I start to spool at 3000rpm so before 3000rpm car lags.. I ran open downpipe for a couple months on my DD evo, I realized it was a little slower before boost really hit
so before that my car lags because before boost its called n/a because there is not boost in the engine.. it is still building up
lol ok if you say so... Its more like you hit full boost by 3000rpm I can be at 800 rpms and got WOT and I'm out of vacuum with at least 1 or 2 lbs of boost. At that point the exhaust is flowing through the hotside and making the wheel spin enough to compress the air on the cold side. If you add a restriction down the pipe then you will slow that flow down and it wont build boost as fast.
thats the reason some japanese companies like apexi (which is my downpipe) make their downpipes 2.75" instead of 3" because there needs to be a little back pressure before boost.. we can argue all day but everyone has a different view on this lol
why? in a boosted car (any car) the best exhaust is no exhaust. expanding exhaust gasses move over the turbine wheel causing it to move faster and faster till the wastgate opens to reroute ehaust. the less back pressure you have the better off your gonna be and the faster it will spool up. and when your racing any car were do u race at the upper rpms any way so yeah u lose some down low but dose it matter when you have boost to blow past who ever your racing?
yea boosted cars are good without backpressure, DURING BOOST.. does a 35R spool instantly on a 4cylinder?? when it does yea open pipe helps, but before that backpressure helps
@queensny1991 come on in a turbo app. the turbo is better off with no back pressure.. and out of boost the turbo is a restriction so that would be some back pressure. now if you are running a 35r you take in account of the lag you would have so there for most (smart) people would stroke the engine out hints less lag and more useable power band with more displament! the better a turbo can flow the more power your gonna make if you have a 35r on a 4cl then thats what your after!!
keep in mind that off boost, the engine has a large turbine right off the manifold that it has to spin, exhaust restriction(backpressure) much? In a turbod car your always better off with straight, non restrictive exhaust.
3'' inch straight pipe + hks muffler = awsome sound.... no muffler = no tone... its just too loud.

lol 4" stock had me going for awhile.

Never mind. I thought the stock exhaust was 4" for some reason.

@tehwun turbo cars dont need back pressure and i am 100% sure stock evo piping is around 2.75 in or 2.50in

is this on a stock turbo?
Supaazn84 2 years ago
could be.
With straight pipes, you really hear the turbo spool down. Even on stock turbochargers.
Watch an rb25 straight pipe, the guy has a stock turbo and it sounds like a fucking disel truck holset spooling down.
0neTurbo 2 years ago
yes. i ran my 8 open downpipe, and it sounded almost exactly the same
myskylinegts 2 years ago
not that sound alonw has any bearing on weather it is stock turbo, but judging from my experience i would say yes
myskylinegts 2 years ago
nice dude, do u have a defouler on it? or u just keep the check engine light?
vertexz3303 3 years ago
No codes here. I just used a defouler as the o2 sensor bung. Welded it right to the pipe.

enough back pressure??
