Just had a peek at your community web page and wow there are some stunning pics i especially like the stunning sunset pic of Lancelin Island. And please keep up all your good work.
@KalahariSurf That's the sight I have from my front verandah. From my back veranda I can look up the coast for 40 klms! (I'm not complaining). I bought a carton of Windhoek Lager in Perth West Aust last year but haven't seen it on sales since. The Director's residence was over the road from the Minen and I think it adjoined the hospital block
Alan you lucky bugger i'm still searching the planet for a place that equals the taste of the beer at the Minen. I'm not sure where the Ongopolo mansion is, but i suspect it could be my folks old house, when they left someone bought their place and there was talk of turning it into a guest house. If the place is just a few 100 m up the road from the Minen it could just be:)))
@KalahariSurf Lucky I logged on to this site again as I was not aware you had responded Did you use the "reply"option? No it wouldn't have been your folks place because built by the Tsumeb Corporation probably around the 1900's. If you look at my Namibia Album I am sure you will recognise the house, It is all white (including fences) and an orchard out the back which extends to the golf course. If you google "Webshots coopec100"and have a look at the Namibia Album (5th page)
@TheWinterwraith i was there during that time and judging from the age on your profile page we're about the same age so I'm sure we must know each other. Where you at Francis Galton?
@KalahariSurf I was indeed! Started Sub A in 76 and left in October 1980, which would have been just before the end of Standard 2. Happiest time of my life. Mrs Achenbach was the principle for most of my time there.
@TheWinterwraith lol i remember "Agonbag". I spent a lot of time in her office. i also suspect we could have been in Mrs Oosthuizen's class together in 79. i was shipped off to boarding school in std 4 (81)
I've just been looking through your photos - brought back some wonderful memories. I really wish I had some good photographs of my time in Tsumeb, but sadly everything was taken with a little Kodak Instamatic. :-)
@KalahariSurf Yes I was fortunate enough to have a nice cold beer at the Minen on many occasions because I lived in the Ongopolo mansion just up the road!! So convenient!
@KalahariSurf. We have been in contact before but I'm wondering if you saw my Namibia album taken in 2007 on Webshots (coopec100) Just google " webshots coopec100". I now live in Lancelin Western Australia and I have about 10 bicycles that I have collected. I now intend to take them to Bicycles for Humanity. Maybe they will end up in Tsumeb!!

I lived in Tsumeb from 1976 until 1980. This brought back some very fond memories.

i spent most of my childhood in Tsumeb, haven't been there in almost 20 years. Man, i miss that pretty little town.
Thanks for the vid, it brought tears to my eyes, thinking of all the good memories i have from the place and the good work you're doing.
Keep up the good work, and THANK YOU
