  • I absolutely love Joy! My earliest memories of this perfume are the beautiful glass bottle sitting on my Mom's dressing table back in the early 80's. I couldn't stay out of it even then. This past week I picked up a small bottle of the EDP just for memories and ended up wearing it to work. Oh the Jasmine! It's so sweet and elegant--feminine, yes, but it doesn't stop me from being a bit of a Gender-Bender and wearing it myself...Beard and all. :)

  • @TheTfirebaugh Fantastic! I love hearing about all of the amazing memories this fragrance evokes :) It's a masterpiece - LOVE IT :)

  • Where can I buy this? i just checked ur site but I cant seem to find it

  • Thanks!

I don't know what its tagline is nowadays, but for years Joy used to call itself

"The Costliest Perfume in the World"!

In fact, when it comes to the cost of ingredients, I think Chanel No 19 still takes the cake, owing mainly to the price of Italian iris.

    Thanks again, great piece.

  • @iedsri ah yes, its a beautiful scent. You can definitely tell high quality ingredients are used. :)

  • Absolute heaven on some. Not so great on me, but I wear it sometimes anyway.

  • Hi Cubbie!

I just got my bottle of vintage Joy (perfume) in the iconic black 7ml flacon. Paid $12.99 for it thinking it was empty but it wasn't, spilling about 2-3ml into the box & ruining it!

However, there is probably at leat 2 or so ml left in the bottle, and the roses and jasmine are really overpowering! Spilled a drop on my left hand and I'm timing it to see how long the parfum concentration lasts!

  • This is a very aristocratic scent, made to remind the ladies of the time the period before The Great Depression.I find that i can only pull it of at certain black tie events.Very feminine and sexy but not in "look at my cleavage "wayBy the way i'm 29...and i think i'll be able to really" own" this when i'll be in my 40ies.

A nice fact for you....Vivian Leigh wore this parfume,( she would use it to spray her sheets and bath water even as a mouth wash)and that says a lot.Good choice

  • great review! i seem to love aldehydic florals like no 5, joy... this one is gorgeous. i smelled it in Nordstrom's yesterday and felt swept away.... its so beautiful.

  • ok i got the perfume... I am so so sad, it looks exactly like the one in your hand. Something has to be wrong with it, Joy smells nothing like the hype of description of this legendary thing I've been dreaming of. Could it have been left out in the sun or something in transport to this chain store? Please let me know I just think it smells like 'white shoulders' just strong and powdery no flowers or happiness

  • ok so i saw a boxed bottle of this at T.Max for $30 i kinda ignored it because i doubted it was real or must have been reformulated, but im definitly going to get it now if it's still there. I became interested after looking though 500pg book about perfume reviews and the end line was "just wear Joy"

  • God it's fantastic to see that young people like you have a real interest and passion for perfumes! Well done! Bravo!

  • When I was five years old I drank a bottle of my grandmas Joy perfume. My grandma was pretty upset, and I dont remember it really, but my mom said I got pretty wild after that. I wish I could try drinking it again nowadays, or at least smell it.

  • You have given me a wicked idea. I'm off to the shopping mall this minute.

  • aldehyde and civet parfumes tend to have this grandma feel to it ...chanel no 5 similar kind of thing going on ...my gf got it and she hated chanel no 5 .

  • Way to go Cubby.. I think that is terrific that you love fragrance enough to do this! I am a fragrance buyer for a major fashion retailer ... that sells fragrances nationally. I think this is super work!

  • This is a truly wonders-ful scent and thank you for reviewing it so thoroughly. That it has not been reformulated means that there are no "substitute" chemicals for the original intentions of the formula. Thanks again, very much.

  • :) ^^

  • I think it's great that you're including one of the grande dames of perfumes in your fragrance reviews. The past does inform the future!

  • how much is it?

  • Just kidding but you still a sexy moufucka.

  • Happy new years you sexy moufucka.

  • could you make a preview video for Prada Milano for men?

  • Hey. I dare you to review Jean Patou pour homme hehe.

Can't you review Encre Noir by Lalique or maybe Silver Moutain Water by Creed?

    Cheers

  • encre noire is a great vetiver fragrance that steps out of the norm... look this one up cubby ! the french know what they are doing when it comes to fragrance and it shits all over stuff like klein, lauren, etc...

  • awesome! thanks. i will heck out Encre Noire :D

  • aw your cute!

  • 1930 :O!

    gotta smell this!

  • for sure! its really nice

  • I loveee this fragrance! Its absolutely gorgeous, and a total classic!

    Good review Cubby!! :)

    Merry Christmas!!

  • I get the feeling, that since it was made in the 30s and has never been changed since, it is gonna have that "old lady, this is a perfume/artificial" smell to it. Most perfumes from back then are like that. The trend in perfumes smelling exactly like their notes is reletively new. Besides, anything with rose and jasmine put together is gonna give me a headache.

  • You're verrrry right.. i forgot to mention that it doesn't really smell anyting like Rose, Jasmine or tuberose... its smells like a combination of the three of them to make a whole new amazing bouquet smell :P

i love it. unfortunately, i just found out today younger girls dont appreciate it as much as some more mature women. :) reminds me of my mother and grandmother :P lol buts not a an OLD LADY smell.. its a classy lady smell :P

  • You are right. I would have a hard time selling this one to a younger woman. and i'm gonna have to say that i think this does fall into the "old lady" type, or at least lies near it.

  • Nice review. Well, maybe I'm the first person you've heard say this, but I can't stand this perfume - it's the aldehydes. I can't get past it. Once it dries down it's a nice perfume, but I can't suffer through the aldehydes :-)

  • Looking good, and doing amazing like always bro. Keep it up and I look forward to having more of these to learn. Who knows maybe I can use these with Har

  • Really enjoyed this review, thanks! It's awesome that a fragrance can have that much staying power! Did Jean Patou release any men's fragrances that you'd recommend?

  • I really curious. I wonder if they would have it at the mall? :O)

  • probably :) check it out :D
