well south style as choy lee fut is beautiful and extremelly practical, now if we talk about chan chuan u are talking about gymnastic movemnts to show the beauty of the human body expresion and its nature. i think both south and north styles are great...

It's a real shame, not the boy, because he is amazing, but the fact that wushu is by now only gymnastics. Where has the martial art gone?

but he IS right in a way.. It's hard to find an authentic place to study traditional wushu and not just it's contemporary variant.. Even Shaolin has commercialized.. it's sad but true..

the old wushu rutines were like karate ones, the idea of making it more aesthetic came with the fist wushu movies, and the idea of make the animals styles more dramatic....so, if u want the cool movements (like I do) u have to do contemporary rutines. All tought styles like tom bei are pretty nice, n kinda practical

Thx for that info :) it would be nice to learn a couple of contemporary forms just as a 'crowd pleaser' ;D and they always have at least SOME practical use, so yeah.. ^^' but it's still too bad that sports wushu is outgrowing traditional KF in popularity heh ;x oh well ^^

Where is the problem? Martial arts are Martial arts and sport Wushu is sport. Who told that Sport Wushu is Martial art? Sport Wushu athlete knows that sport Wushu is only sport.

He's doing Chang Chuan WuShu. It's not any specific style, just putting all the fancy stuff of the northern styles together for an aesthetically pleasing performance. It is incredibly difficult to do the stuff he does and at that speed.

wow, competetive taolu has really turned to shit. Please bring back some of the old school with style and flavor. As it is now we might just take up ice skating or gymnastics instead, there is just not much wu left. Just my personal opinion... Good vid though.

ya imma have to agree. i mean no doubt the kid is good at what he does, but its just not the same. every other move he is just doing wulong panda, then a kick, then repeat. i miss when u could aCTUALLY tell what style they were doing. now it all just looks like dancing... kinda sad...

at the very least maybe they should have more variety in style...maybe starting with chaining movements differently...not all the xuanzi zhuanti with xuanfeng etc.

well the problem i have with it is there is no DISTINCTION between styles. in the 80's and earlier if they were doing tanglang, you KNEW it was tanglang. if they were doing hu chuan, you KNEW it was tiger, and so on. not it ALLLL the same. long fist... thats it.... every NOW and then somone does zui chuan, and even that looks crummy now days. whenever i see it there is hardly ANY ditang which is SIGNATURE for drunken style.... i donno, just upsetting

I guess in their pursuit of making wushu into an international sport, a lot of homogenising is taking place, adding in all the nandu rules just helped them achieve their aims. I'm not saying I agree with that but just that wushu as a sport is being increasingly segmented into contemporary and traditional. I guess we won't be seeing much of traditional styles in these high level competitions...

ya the thing that REALLY tweaks me is that the tran tong sections in comps aren't even traditional. well atleast not in the USA. in china it still is
