  • Be sure to watch our review of the 2nd Generation SPOT.

  • @welsmj64 how far offshore can u go with this device? and is it water proof to what depth?

  • Do you sell it for overseas people? Who can we get it ?

Does it work out side US?

    What about the price Now?

    Thanks (d:)

  • @saadmll

    Hello,

Yes we can sell outside the US. Yes it works outside the US. The price is $139.95 for the SPOT 2. Don't buy the original SPOT it doesn't work as well as the SPOT 2. I have been testing one now for over a month and it works as advertised and a lot better than the Original SPOT. Here is a link where you can see the SPOT 2 and order it if you decide too.

  • @saadmll

It wouldn't let me put in a link so Go to our website OTBPMaps and click on Adventure Station and on the first page you will see both the original SPOT and the new SPOT 2.

  • NEW SPOT INFORMATION

Here is some information from SPOT on how to tell the difference between the recalled and fixed units.

    March 9th, 2010,

    Dear Valued Distribution Partners,

We are starting to ship SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger (SPOT-2) to the channel. Here are instructions to distinguish between the recalled and fixed units:

    BOTTOM OF PRODUCT BOX:

-RECALLED UNITS: DONT HAVE LARGE WHITE STICKER

-FIXED UNITS: HAVE LARGE WHITE STICKER, WITH UPC CODE

  • @welsmj64

    Thank you for answering

    I`ll check your website

  • As soon as I can get one of the new SPOT's I will test it out to see how it does and do a new report. I have to wait until they are on the market as well.

One thing I can tell you is that I have passed on my findings to SPOT and a request to get a unit so that I can run it through some test and I haven't heard back from them on either issue.

  • For you reps...I am a hunter and my issue is that I hunt alone many times a year. My biggest concern was the tree cover and getting a signal through. Most accidents for hunters stem from falling out of trees. So how does this new version work through a forest canopy?

  • moe198,

After talking with the rep the acquisition will be better as far as the unit getting your location identified quicker, but when it transmits that data it will work the same as the SPOT 1 units. If thats the case I would be concerned with getting the signal out through the forest canopy, but it would be a lot shorter craw to open sky than to you vehicle I would assume.

If you want for sure emergency only coverage look into the ACR's products.

  • Okay I have some info on the new spots. The new SPOTS "WILL NOT HAVE BETTER TRANSMIT PERFORMANCE, BUT WILL BE EASIER TO USE." This is what my rep relayed to me. They have added an LED light that tells you when you have a satellite signal and another one that lets you know your message has been sent. The new GPS chip is top of the line and will provide faster acquisition. I'm excited to check one out. They will be available the end of October.

  • Hey Robert it's funny you wrote this today because I just sent my SPOT rep an email seeing about getting one of the new ones since I'm a dealer. I've heard they do a lot better.

I still pack mine everywhere so if it works better that will be great. I will do an update after I test the new one. Thanks again for the info,

  • Be sure to purchase the second generation SPOT if you're going to buy one. The first generation SPOT is being sold "on sale" most places now because its the older version.

The PROBLEM with the older version SPOT is that its antennae is weak and doesn't penetrate tree cover well.

Lets say you fall during a hike and break your back and can't move around. You're under tree cover.

It won't work without a full view of the sky.

Fall into a mineshaft or well, no rescue.

  • nice product! I want it! do I need it?....uhhhh.....no! let me just keep paying my cell bill instead

  • No, it doesn't take the place of a GPS. It isn't a navigational tool it is strictly a tool for letting family or authorities know that you need help or that you are okay.

  • but... i can´t use it to fly?? like a GPS.. for pilots??? thats doesnt have an LCD screen or something to watch my course?? only people on ground can watch me?

  • Realy nice man !!!

I´ll get mine right now !!!

No limits This is my style of life !!!

    GoOd TrIpS

  • Thanks I will have some more reviews and short tutorials on other items in the near future.

  • I thought that was great, Thanks!
