The first third of the video is well done and interesting. It emphasizes the hundreds of hours of training and practice by all teams, and the competitive aspect. More than half of the video is biased, factually incorrect, and self-serving. TABC faced a weaker competitive schedule than other teams solely because of its scheduling accommodation. One example: the teams it played ended up being ranked 9th, 8th, 13th, and 18th place- NOT "four top 10 teams" as stated incorrectly in the video.
iPenProductions- the Christian Sabbath is totally different from the Jewish Sabbath. The Jewish Sabbath has very strict rules- you cannot do 39 basic things that have to do with work. This means no driving, no writing, no touching or dealing with electronics, etc. Devout Jewish people cannot possibly compete in any way. So yeah, we do want them to change their rules, and we have the law on our side. Its really bold of you to call the situation stupid- most of the world disagrees with you.
Actually, there are many strict religious rules in the world, such as Sharia. You are missing the point. The Mock Trial competition is a very large international competition, and this video emphasizes competition. Should 43 other teams who are not Orthodox Jewish be improperly disadvantaged and skew the results? Some accommodations have, and are, being made. Others cannot. If the only accommodation acceptable is one that gives the "observant" team an unfair advantage, then it is unreasonable.
I think this is just stupid. You want everyone to change just for you? I am a devout Christian, and I have to oompete on Sunday, which is our sabbath. Oh wait, we sucked it up and competed anyways. Now some states refuse because "they wouldn't accomodate". They tried, but they couldn't, because it affected too many other teams. So, keep your own competition, just know that the 2007 champion there (Tennessee) was only there because they lost their state competition, and couldn't go to the NHSMTC.
Looking back a year later, boy did I sound bitter for no reason. I agree, there are differences, still rules are rules, and I don't see why a big deal has to be made for just one team. If several teams were affected, that would have been reasonable. But for one team to need the schedule changed, making other teams change their plans at the last minute is unfair to those other teams. The last thing you want at nationals is a change of plans. Trust me.
if i recall, this event really shook up the entire world i mean i live in the Democratic Republic of Congo and i remember my mock trial team being effected by this, great stuff.

It is completely different. On your sabbath you are allowed to drive, etc. but we are not.
