  • dx'd w TN in October. My first attack combined all 3 parts of the trigeminal nerve and was a whopper! If you were to hand me a gun during the worst of it, I might have used it. And your right, this disease is not a joke! I wish you pain free days! Love Julie

  • I have trigeminal neuralgia...was diagnosed in January 2010.

  • There was no sound to your video. Just curious as to if you still suffer from Trigeminal neuralgia?

  • Wow!! Thank you so much for posting this video! I had Bell's Palsy back in May of 2010 and thought I will still having symptoms of it now.. Went to the Dr. today to find out that what I have is not from the Palsy but is called Trigeminal Neuralgia. The pain is excruciating! My pain actually began during the first 2 months of the Palsy and has persisted till this day off and on. My pain is mostly behind my left ear and runs down my jaw line.. sometimes it strikes all side of my left eye too.

  • wow I never knew what the name of it was that I was feelin...I have MS & I thought well it was just MS.I am not crazee!

  • I HV BELLS PALSY FOR OVER 2YRS AND I FEEL THAT IM HAVING TN 2 .JUST LIKE THE WAY U HAVE ...IM ACTUALLY FEELING CONFUSED THAT WHETHER THE PAIN IS DUE TO bp OR itS TN itself...

  • PLEASE, if you suffer TN, get in touch with this #1 TN surgeon:

Dr. Tom Kopitnik, Mountain View Hospital & Neurosurgery

Casper WY 307-266-4000 VERY reasonable with rates and payments.

I'm 59 and my surgery recovery was unbelievably fast- out on 2nd day after surgery and back to life totally TN pain-free, after 3 years of suffering!

Contact me. Not affiliated- just a very elated patient!!

  • thank you so much...hope you r feeling better...God bless

  • why whould youtube censor the audio, dam the u tube staff suk, OH NO A PICKLE *censores it*

  • I have Hemiballismus and it makes my leg move randomly, sort-of in a cycle, counterclock wise at each i switch from heel to toe

  • I am 16-years-old and have just recovered from my microvascular decompression surgery. The doctors didn't believe I had trigeminal neuralgia because I was just 13-years-old at the time (and apparentely that's rare), and the effect the pain had on my mental health and social life caused me to develope severe depression. But I got diagnosed and treated in the end, and I'm slowly getting my life back.

  • Although, the cause of my TN was lack of nerve insulation.

  • @clampsno1fan i have tn and people dont understand that when i have a lot of pain i dont nessarilly hear what there saying to me becouse my mind is occupied with the pain they just say im deaf or ignorant i cant help the way i feel as for touching my face which is impossible at times people say im not in that much pain just becouse you cant even stroke my cheek its so bad i wish for one day they could have this then they would know how it feels

  • I can understand what you were going through. I was 16 when I got TN. I am preparing to have the MVD done in Atlanta at Emory hospital.

  • i dont know what an mdv is but remember this some nerves that are removed in surgery grow back and TN can get worse i have TN and its hell to live with

  • @clampsno1fan you will learn to cope. This is your best job... Nothing more. Just learn how to cope with it and you will prevail in the end.

  • @clampsno1fan Good for you! Life is to short for us not to enjoy! Enjoy it to the fullest!

  • I have searched web every so often looking for others who have my problem, 1st time trying you-tube. For over 3.5yrs, every single day, truly nonstop, i have face pain. bilateral face pain. like icecream headache just less sharp, never gone, varies in intensity..no docs have reason, doing diff meds, seen over 15docs. but do get the TN shootig so often like mentioned. could be ATN but did want to say mine is both sides :( so guess is possible (if is indeed "ATN") - feel better!!!!!

  • btrfly6499--could you please contact me? I too suffer from these "icecream headaches times a ten million--I understand, all to well what you are going thru!! I am going to have a MRI tomorrw, Even laughing too much can set the darn thing off, bending down, using the bathroom, don't mean to offend...this is awful!! Unless you live with this, you out there have NO IDEA!! I am on meds, but HYDORCODONE DOSEN"T WORK!! MORPINE DOSEN"T WORK...I hate feeling sick!!

  • @yankeegurl62 Morphine only works if you take if regular. NEVER MISS A DOSE! See a pain clinic or pain doctor, and they will set up a plan for you

  • Continuing again..(Sorry for the long post)

My worry is that I don't see any sort of STEROID in the doctor's prescription. I'm afraid my friend might be getting a neglectful prescription.

From what I've read in the posts made by the wonderful Youtube community, when it comes to treating Bell's palsy time is of the essence, so I urgently need to know if there would be any danger in using steroids along with Tegretol?

P.S. My friend does not have Trigeminal Neuralgia, of that I am very sure.

  • Continuing with my post...

My friend was soon sent to a clinic where he had various sorts of scans, MRI, urine/blood tests, etc. Finally, the doctor sent him home and prescribed him with Tegretol ONLY.

Tegretol turns out to be an anticonvulsant, which works by decreasing nerve impulses that cause seizures and pain. So if I understand correctly Tegretol is a sort of analgesic meant to treat nerve pain. Continue...

  • My best friend has got Bell's palsy 5 days ago on 25 September 2008.

I'm not sure what the precise cause of his palsy was, but I suspect that as he was having a panic attack (under a huge stress and tiredness) one of the arteries that runs through the brain near the cerebellum got swollen and touched/rubbed/pressed on the 7th Cranial nerve. I'm not sure if the artery also touched or pressed on the Trigeminal nerve but I think not. That was the scenario 5 days ago. Continue...

  • LOL youre absolutely right. I do need to lose weight. But I think Richard Simmons is taken. I'll keep that in mind, though, thank you! HAHAHAHAHA

  • hey douchebag, i'm 26, 6',150 pounds and i suffer from this same pain.

    go figure.

  • Douchebag??!!! HAHAHA How original.

what does your age, height and weight have to do with anything?

All you did was prove that TN can affect ANYONE no matter age, weight or height. Thank you :)

  • Just to comment to your silly actually stupid comment. Weight has nothing to do it, I am a healthy 30 year old and was diag with bells palsy and this TN couldn't be explained any better. One day your good and the next you don't have to be so look at your in the mirror and appreciate everything you have.

  • What about surgery?

  • well, fortunately, the doctor gave me some awesome medication since and for the most part Im fine....every once in a while I will have an attack, but far less often now.

  • my friend thank you v much for giving us such a valuble informations..

  • youre very welcome :)

  • Hi jennifer

I too have this condition and I am due in for an MVD operation in November, hope you have been pain free for a while.

    Lou x

  • Thank you for posting this. I get severe migraines with an additional aspect of intense pain that literally feels like someone drilling in my eye and/or ear; this can occur with or without the migraine. I haven't been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, but I suspect that's what it is...

  • My best friend in the world has a-typical trigeminal neuralgia and it breaks my heart

  • yes, I am. Thank you for your comment! :)

  • Hello Jennifer,

I have Multiple Sclerosis and have suffered with TN for the last two (2) years. I believe that I am a candidate for Gamma Knife surgery which is supposed to correct this problem. I am scheduled to see my Neurologist. Thanks for your attention to and discussion of this problem. I wish you well. :) Garrett

  • Hi, let me know how you're doing!

  • Hello i just wanted to say thank you for posting this utube video i was diag 21/2 weeks ago with BP and i have this pain with bells palsy and it sounds like TN -i actually have an appt 2morrow in boston who specialize in with bells palsy i will be asking these questions about TN thanks so much

  • @PAULINESFIRST I did the Gamma Knife surgery twice. The only people that get cured from Gamma Knife if the lining of the doctors pockets with money. Doctors that own the Gamma Knife machines! They buy them and use them on us. I had gamma knife 2 times! Nothing, Nada! In fact, I got worst from Gamma knife.
