after I layer my two clips and put the linear wipe transition on one of them, it still only plays one clip at a time. How do I get the two clips to play at the same time? Are they layered on top of one another or next to one another with a transition in between?

In Premiere Elements 4, I've tried this during the daytime but the light changes between the two videos; one may be a little darker/lighter than the other, so the changes of amount of light is highly visible. Is there a way around this or would I just have to record with steady lighting?
