@Zepppster its usefull for taking that perfect shot when there's lots of action, and more chance theres a good non motion blurred pic (when not using is). Camera's give us that option nowadays, so why not use it instead of leaving that perfect shot to sheer luck?
@snuurtje its not sheer luck. Its about knowing the moment, pre-visualization, etc. Having that capability is extremely nice, especially for action shots. However, when shooting soccer practice or even a professional game, its not really needed IMO.
@Zepppster I disagree, for instance a soccer match, were u want to shoot the moment were 2 players running forward towards you battle over the ball. You rapid fire them, and suddenly one of them elbows the other in the nose. You cant anticipate that, but have caught it, aswell as the moment before that were there still battling over the ball, instead of using foul tactics.
@mvubu1234 Not trolling at all. I would also advice you not to start a senseless dick measuring contest on the theories and practice of optic formulae with me. Firstly, it is a fallacious debating technique and secondly you'll loose. So you can assume I know enough about bokeh, DOF, aperture settings, aberration and lens types to make a educated observation on these matters. You may agree, disagree or try to persuade me to see things your way.
@Sp1k3y1 Use servo but only have one AF point selected. Having all (19 from memory?) selected can cause focus on undesired players. If you want to lead a player try selecting one to the left or right and keeping that point on the player you wish to shoot. It means you'll only be able to shoot players moving in one direction at a time but it gives more consistent results and if you practice switching AF points a few times you'll be able to do it quickly when play changes direction.
really REALLY creative video. I love the fact that it felt like you were using the gear much like how motorcycle riders with Gopro helmets do with their equipment.
Wait. ur description says that 400mm on a 1.3x crop frame DSLR = 530 on a full frame? Its suppose to be the other way around right? If u mount 400mm on a full frame it'll be around 308mm. I might not be right, but i'm kinda sure ur description's wrong :/
@Brotherh00d It is a 400mm IN FULL FRAME, but the DSLR he's been using has a 1.3x crop factor (the Canon EOS 1D Mark III), which would make 400x1.3=520mm in the 1.3x crop factor camera he used. I hope you understand now :)
whoa, nice dude. I'm considering the 100-400 myself but this lens would definitely be an awesome choice. How do you like the the prime fixation aspect of the lens?
@mattandhisnikon try get a job with the newspaper in your area say the Courier Mail if you lived in Brisbane. Go to the games take some nice shots, get paid, have fun and a free match to watch.
@trakex229 it all depends on what you want to shoot. If you want speed without the price you can go a 7D, but keep in mind it is a cropped sensor. If you want to go with something a little less check out the 550D. Fantastic starter camera and will let you experiment with photo and HD Vids. Or you can cross to the dark side and check out some of the Nikon's like the D90, or D7000.
There really is no exact recommendation for you unfortunately, but remember to try before you buy!
@stubones Canon 1D series' sensor may not quite be that of a 35mm but it is not deemed as cropped due to the EF lense as a standard. An EF lens on a 1D series body will be at a 1:1 ratio, hence the coined term 'full frame'. An EF lens on a 'cropped frame' body (7D, 550D etc) is subject to a crop factor. Hence the EF-S lens creation (specified for cropped sensors). To expand if you use an FD lens from a 35mm you will be subject to a small crop factor, but a 1D is still be considered 'full frame'.
@Gcollie3810 With a sensor that is only 66.45% of the surface area of a 35mm sensor, the 1D series is anything but full frame. It is a professional camera body, but with a crop factor of 1:1.3 it not full frame. The only Canon bodies that are FF are the 1DS and 5D series.
@Gcollie3810 Sorry, a 1D is not considered full frame. Canon's only full frame digital SLR's are the 1Ds series and the 5D series. They have a 24mmx36mm sensor.
