@RPGFan28 You should watch it A.S.A.P. It's a classic anime, and one the best anime series I've ever seen. If you thought this was sad just wait, and watch Clannad, and season 2 of Clannad. Both are 25 episodes long. You will absolutely love Clannad. It will have you laughing,happy, sad, and crying. After that you should watch Angel Beats, and Steins;Gate if you want.

@ValentinoLovebird well as far as I know, Trust and Betrayal covered from his training to his journey, meaning from his training with hiko to the boshin war which when he became as the famous man-slayer/battousai, plus even though it was just a 1-hr movie it actually covered from he was small to his teens, which is a long time of killing. In the movie also he said to katsura that he would leave after the war was won, which is the reason he became a rurouni, and led to the series.

@dodgeperformace1 the ova's are the time when Kenshin was married to Tomoe and goes through the stuff in the manga that was left out of the anime because the anime was trash and ended in volume 17 out of 28. The movie here is after the manga ended and is "what may have happened" the creator of the manga, Nubuhiro Watsuki, helped write the story of the OVA's and this movie.

Wow I was in shock when I saw him. I mean he just fell into her arms (see 13:13)- you could see his life sliping away right then- Its sad but a peaceful death. His life was filled with so much pain and sorrow and death. This was a sad but I feel a fiting end, for him to die in the arms of the one he so loves and to finaly meet rest. An Incredible anime! 5 stars
@crescenthero In the manga, they actually do live happily ever after. Kenshin and Kaoru have a son, Kaoru's Dojo is still going, Yahiko is frown up and one of the most renowned martial artists in Japan, and Himura passes him his Sakaba sword. He also wasn't dying, just hurt from practicing such a hardcore art at such levels. Frankly, the "Reflection" OVA should be disregarded as some idiot's bad fanfic.
@Slayton1978 I agree, but speaking as a writer, you only kill off a major character, much less the primary, for one of two reasons. One, if it'll push the plot forward in a way nothing else can manage, or 2, as a push for the new main character to evolve in some way (Motivation, powers, what have you). It was totally unnecessary in the manga, so I don't see any reason it was needed in the anime. I hope that didn't come across as bitchy lol.
this is so sad v_v.. somehow kenshin's slow degeneration didnt justify his past glory days, i mean god he looked crippled.. just too sad.. v_v but in a way it was a reasonable ending to die together with Kaoru and they fulfill their promise.
This OVA was truely amazing!! Although i liket he japanese version better than the english dub.. kaoru voice realy annoyed me in english as alwasy... but overall amazing it actually withdrew emotion from me ... i alsmost cried .. im just so happy that Shinta was and kaoru were able to see each other before the end! :)

Great Manga, especially the part about Tomoes brother. At the peak of that Arc I ( everyone who read the Manga knwos what I mean) I seriously had to but the book away and take a deeeeep breath.
The OVa is great too and very sad indeed. No matter what you do, when you take a life, you will have to carry that burden with you until the end of your life.
Nobuhiro Watsuki, creator of the series, has declared that the Samurai X - Reflection is a non-cannon work. There is to be a new animated series where all events that transpired in this 2nd OVA will be ignored.
I actually like this ending but I like the manga ending as well for different reasons. The movie seemed to be focusing more on kenshin and kaoru's to build up to make it tare at your heart. I like that his scar completely disappeared and he seemed to have a true smile. I the art style more but the movie itself wasn't too great. The characters' personalities were altered and most of the characters were not featured but you also had to think there is only so much time to flesh out characters.

@Ydoucarehoebag You seriously missed the point. But then again its really hard to grasp. You have know about emotion. I think its a great ending. Also his sickness was due to Kenshin overused of the Heiten Mitsurugi, it put so much strain his body.
One thing to remark besides the fading of the scar is Shinta was smiling from the very bottom of his heart, so Kaoru could at last achieve her ultimate goal. This is how I see this end.
This is an alternate ending actually. The original creator of Rurouni Kenshin was pissed off when he saw what the company did to Kenshin in thÍs film. He wanted to let Kenshin have a happy ending but the company wanted to end the series already. I heard somewhere that a 4th season of RK is gonna be out in a few months, though. Maybe they will fix this cuz this is just wrong what they did..
@PinoyBboy1992 It was in Shounen Jump not too long ago. I looked some stuff up about it and it seems it will be an entire remake of the show possibly akin to Brotherhood from FMA in that it may follow the manga more closely than the first show did.
This was soo sad! I cried the almost all the movie :'( It would be nice to see a happy ending but Kenshin would never live a happy life with all the guilt as this showed!!
I was really really really beyond sad when I finished this just now. But I wasn't crying. But then I started thinking about the chin of events that led up to this finale and then I thought about how funny and carefree Kenshin was compared to the one in this OVA and then I thought "Oro" and then a single tear ran down my face. This was the saddest ending to any anime I've seen, but that's what made it the best. I'm gonna miss it so much :'(
the scar isnt there when he dies cause its to show the pain is all over and its left his body but its such a let down that he had to die i heard they were going to make a kenshin 2 but it wouldnt be kenshin without kenshin lol

I remember sobbing like a lil girl when I watch this 10 years ago. It reminds me that even the greatest person, is still a person, a human like the rest of us. best anime ever.
The disappearance of the scar meant the disappearance of a pain filled life thus being able to die in the arms of his love while holding no pain within. Truly a sad tale.
sad but good ending, kenshin's former master is right kenshin believed not killing changed the way of the sword and it did change now swordsmanship is more of a defensive art in asia today
Did anyone noticed his X shaped scar is gone? and on top of that the tears of Kaoru traces 2 lines in the direction the scar was? :( that symbolism its so epic and poetic.
@skiptomile In the manga Sanno went and got himself in trouble with the government so bad that he had to leave Japan, this is also why he could not go back with Kenshin. Kenshin was overseas to help prevent a war through his skills in dealing with people and was thrown overboard in a storm at sea on the way home and went missing.
Why I don't hate the ending: many of his enemies said he would die at the end of a sword... he avoided that and died peacefully in the arms of his love.
He did not just get sick either, his sword techniques are harmful to himself, and well in his 40s it caught up to him and near 50 claimed him. Considering what he said in the first OVA (when he was a teen) that he knew he'd die young and had come to terms with that, 45-50 was a grand age for him to reach, surly older than he expected back then
There are actuall tears on my face, and I am in a snibble fit...it is so sad and so sweet and just BAW! OMG! the build up for the end, the way it ended, tears of "awww" and "bawww" are in my eyes....I cannot believe I am crying!
The only other anime that brought me to tears was Grave of the Fireflies but that was just a "bawww" sad, but this is such a sweet sad.

I can not thank you enough scientists, who have developed cure for diseases such as the one who took Kenshin-NO I meant Shinta's and Kaoru's life :) So that now people can live a long happy life "together".

His life was filled with so much pain and sorrow and death. This was a sad but I feel a fiting end, for him to die in the arms of the one he so loves and to finaly meet rest. An Incredible anime! 5 stars

@crescenthero In the manga, they actually do live happily ever after. Kenshin and Kaoru have a son, Kaoru's Dojo is still going, Yahiko is frown up and one of the most renowned martial artists in Japan, and Himura passes him his Sakaba sword. He also wasn't dying, just hurt from practicing such a hardcore art at such levels. Frankly, the "Reflection" OVA should be disregarded as some idiot's bad fanfic.

@Slayton1978 I agree, but speaking as a writer, you only kill off a major character, much less the primary, for one of two reasons. One, if it'll push the plot forward in a way nothing else can manage, or 2, as a push for the new main character to evolve in some way (Motivation, powers, what have you). It was totally unnecessary in the manga, so I don't see any reason it was needed in the anime. I hope that didn't come across as bitchy lol.

this is so sad v_v.. somehow kenshin's slow degeneration didnt justify his past glory days, i mean god he looked crippled.. just too sad.. v_v but in a way it was a reasonable ending to die together with Kaoru and they fulfill their promise.

This OVA was truely amazing!! Although i liket he japanese version better than the english dub.. kaoru voice realy annoyed me in english as alwasy... but overall amazing it actually withdrew emotion from me ... i alsmost cried .. im just so happy that Shinta was and kaoru were able to see each other before the end! :)

its so sad :( it made ,me fall into tears...whats also sad is that the legendary kenshin himora who was very strong is defeated by only a sickness....but its a very good ending..happy-sad ending..it really made me cry watching...i dont know why?

Great Manga, especially the part about Tomoes brother. At the peak of that Arc I ( everyone who read the Manga knwos what I mean) I seriously had to but the book away and take a deeeeep breath.
The OVa is great too and very sad indeed. No matter what you do, when you take a life, you will have to carry that burden with you until the end of your life.

I actually like this ending but I like the manga ending as well for different reasons. The movie seemed to be focusing more on kenshin and kaoru's to build up to make it tare at your heart. I like that his scar completely disappeared and he seemed to have a true smile. I the art style more but the movie itself wasn't too great. The characters' personalities were altered and most of the characters were not featured but you also had to think there is only so much time to flesh out characters.

One thing to remark besides the fading of the scar is Shinta was smiling from the very bottom of his heart, so Kaoru could at last achieve her ultimate goal. This is how I see this end.

This is an alternate ending actually. The original creator of Rurouni Kenshin was pissed off when he saw what the company did to Kenshin in thÍs film. He wanted to let Kenshin have a happy ending but the company wanted to end the series already. I heard somewhere that a 4th season of RK is gonna be out in a few months, though. Maybe they will fix this cuz this is just wrong what they did..

I was really really really beyond sad when I finished this just now. But I wasn't crying. But then I started thinking about the chin of events that led up to this finale and then I thought about how funny and carefree Kenshin was compared to the one in this OVA and then I thought "Oro" and then a single tear ran down my face. This was the saddest ending to any anime I've seen, but that's what made it the best. I'm gonna miss it so much :'(

@skiptomile In the manga Sanno went and got himself in trouble with the government so bad that he had to leave Japan, this is also why he could not go back with Kenshin. Kenshin was overseas to help prevent a war through his skills in dealing with people and was thrown overboard in a storm at sea on the way home and went missing.

Why I don't hate the ending: many of his enemies said he would die at the end of a sword... he avoided that and died peacefully in the arms of his love.
He did not just get sick either, his sword techniques are harmful to himself, and well in his 40s it caught up to him and near 50 claimed him. Considering what he said in the first OVA (when he was a teen) that he knew he'd die young and had come to terms with that, 45-50 was a grand age for him to reach, surly older than he expected back then

There are actuall tears on my face, and I am in a snibble fit...it is so sad and so sweet and just BAW! OMG! the build up for the end, the way it ended, tears of "awww" and "bawww" are in my eyes....I cannot believe I am crying!
The only other anime that brought me to tears was Grave of the Fireflies but that was just a "bawww" sad, but this is such a sweet sad.
just oh my freaking gawd! Such a strong bitter sweet feeling of empathy in my chest and ...where are the tissues, seriously!

I can not thank you enough scientists, who have developed cure for diseases such as the one who took Kenshin-NO I meant Shinta's and Kaoru's life :) So that now people can live a long happy life "together".
