This is my favorite Rolling stones song (not saying it's the best, I know it's not but it's my personal favorite) This is awesome too Gotta love David Bowie .
To be honest I heard both the original and this cover for the first time at around the same time as each other and I've always thought the original blows.
He did not make it his own...its jayne County ...meaning he's imitating her...she (when she ws Wayne) was a csualty of main man...she talks about it in her book...
The only person who could possibly touch Mick Jaggers swag would hands down be David Bowie, two of the coolest dudes in rock and roll history, I cant decide which version i like better, anyways, you know im smiiiiiiilinnn beyyybeh ;)
i saw him do this live and the piano player with me thought when he said "this is for mick" he meant Ronson lmao! i guess he got it off on that revolution stuff :)
@AngeloCazaro143 Oh, you're not alone. I want his love too. Besides him, I'm after Paul McCartney and Roger Daltrey and Keith Moon. Now with Keith Moon it'd be weird, because he's just, well, ashes disolved in the earth. =/
How can you not love this cover. Love it when he slows it down "they said we were too young" etc. The Stones are good, but this takes the song to a different level.....Garson on piano is a god.
I've always liked this cover. I absolutely LOVE The Rolling Stones but this cover is great. Of course the original is better, but I don't think David's purpose was making his version better than the original anyway.
Let's spend the night Together sans Mick Jagger et Keith Richards et bah ............c'est plus Let's spend the night together ! mais David Bowie est remarquable !
All originals are better than covers. (Neil Young songs don't count 'cos he can write, but he can't sing). But this is the exception. Bowie's version is brilliant. The whole album is brilliant. Listen to Lady Grinning Soul...
@cicalinarrot dude, seriously, there must be something wrong with you... I reckon even the Stones would admit defeat, this is coming from a die hard stones fan
@cicalinarrot fair enough man, but accept a cover for what it is, it's gotta be different, he's sexed this track up, this is what it's sposed to sound like in my opinion
this blasts the stones one into space...somewhat like Hendrix did with All along the watchtower...or am i going too far as usual? peace and love all xx
Why do people keep making stupid comparisons ????? , this is just a cover and tribute to the rolling stones, who fucking cares if it's not as good as the original, why should it be better.... it's a cover and a tribute !!!!
@norcicoso of course a cover is a tribute! i love the stones original too. As a gutar/bass player I'm always gonna make comparisons...not to dis one version over another...just coz it's interesting to compare...For example; God Save the Queen by the Pistols -Class. Then i saw Motorhead do it live...."Are there any punks in the audience? This one's for you!" Peace out x
Hey. Its me. The guy who gave the harsh critique of yer Eno/Big Ship vid. But hey, fear not. I clicked yer YouTube name-thing and lo n behold..heres this bowie vid. Gooood choice. Very fun tune. Jackie Baby, you have good taste. have a pleasant winter..James from florida usa
this gover is great because he took the song and made it his own...dont get me wrong...i fuckin LOVE the stones, soo much so i have the licks logo tattooed on my back...but david bowie took the song and raunched it out and made it a Ziggy Stardust tune...all hail the Spiders From Mars
I can't help but disagree. You could argue that it's good to stick to your roots, but at least you can't call Bowie a one trick pony. A lot of the greatest artists are the ones that adapt over time, and change with the music. Plus, many musicians need change in order to keep themselves interested. You can run out of ideas if you've played rock and blues for long enough. Not trying to knock the Stones or anything, I love both artists, just my opinion.

Bowie just seems obsessed with changing his look so often he comes as more of a style collector than someone actually invested in music. Stones less adventurous, but their work more grounded and convincing because they paused and focused on a genre that really mattered to them. Glam, the Berlin period, MTV pop - just comes off like another fad from a short-attention spanned dilletante.
I love David Bowie's Music with a passion. And I've always enjoyed it more than the Stones, which is saying a lot, because I really like the Stones. I actually thought that Bowie recorded with the Stones, because he and Mick were kinda close, and Mick sounds like him in some of the tracks. Unfortuanately, I really think the Stones version is better. Most songs are done better by the songwriter.
I like Bowie's & The Stones' versions - they are both awesome in their own ways. When you listen to Aladdin Sane, this is what you want to hear...vice versa...hitting 50 soon here and I still love listening to David Bowie! He is part of my growing up in the Early 70's! Go David!
Stones rock.... But, Bowie rocks hard, better and faster. I love his cover! Love it! I love how we re-invents the songs he covers. Wham Bam, thank you man!

Bowie is awesome and a legend but this cover sucks.
In an attempt to try to make it distinct the tempo and phrasing of the vocals are all screwed up; the overall production is fussy and insipid.
The original version destroys this.
