  • People have no clue how bad unemployment in the U.S. is. If you want to see what the unemployment rate really is, google "U-6 unemployment rate". That includes those groups of people that our Government conveniently avoids accounting for. Instead, they are using the U-3 unemployment rate. People wake up ... stop LISTENING to what your elected officials (i.e. Obama) are TELLING you ... they tell you that which will help them get elected, not what is the truth.

    Obama and democrats are trying to position themselves as the “good guys” using a government shutdown as a political strategy for their exorbitant spending. The Conservatives are trying to control spending.

    Between November 2010 & March 2011, 149,048 are no longer in looking for work (154,081,632-153,932,584). This almost cancels the Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 192,000 jobs created in private industry for the month of February

  • Well, discouraged workers still consume resources without adding back productivity, and underemployed workers have their talents squandered, also decreasing productivity. To not count them in unemployment statistics makes no sense, unless you want to dupe other countries into believing we are better off.

  • The "official" unemployment rate dropped to 9.5% which is sure to be touted by Obama as absolute proof that Obamanomics is a total success.

    Behind that percentage are two statistical realities. The economy LOST 125,000 total jobs. and there was a WHOPPING 52% INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF DISCOURAGED WORKERS WHICH ARE NOT COUNTED AS UNEMPLOYED BECAUSE THEY ARE UNWILLING TO WORK. Unemployment went down because the labor force is shrinking.

    25% unemployment rate in the great depression is less than 9% today since the population of the US in the 1940's is way lower compared to today.

    In terms of absolute values, not rates, there are more unemployed Americans and Canadians than there were in the 1940's.

    America's main exports lack substanially compared with Germany, China and Japan as America's economy is based of consumption, not trade.

  • I believe we can turn the economy around if the country as a whole got our acts together. I mean Korea was in shambles a decade ago during the asian economic crisis and the people worked together to bring the country out of bankcruptcy. In fact, Korea is the first country worldwide to pull out of the world economic crisis. It proves a point that if we are all willing to pull this out together then we can turn it around.

  • I don't know what you have been told, but Smoot Hawley was enacted eight months after the crash of 1929. Tariffs did not cause the great depression, the lack of regulation over wall street did.

If you read his books, he states quite clearly that the entire base of the problem is that we have stopped producing anything in this country and have shifted our entire economy to being financials and service based.
