  • Luks and sounds as gud as it left VW, id run it for anova 100k n see if it beds in.......

  • My 2006 Skoda 2.0 TDI DSG makes the same noise and was told today it could be the DMF so thanks, this video and other comments confirms it.

  • I have a 2006 TDI automatic and it makes a rattling noise. I was told my flywheels are bad....$1,300 to replace.

  • Damnit, I hear that from mine as well - 200k miles... FML!

  • vw passat... the loudest diesel ever :D

  • Have recently had the same delight with my 2006 Mondeo TDCI. First noticed the scrapey noise at the front about 2 months ago and had the clutch slip a few times under heavy acceleration. Have literally driven it to death whilst saving to get it fixed. Starter motor has gradually given up due to all the shit coming off the DMF and now the engine won't even run properly. Presumably solenoid permanently stuck and inhibiting the engine.

I'll take plenty of lube to the garage with me.

  • DMF = SHIT

  • On my 2006 TDI (manual) I have that EXACT sound, it's a specific rattle that goes on at about a few sec intervals.

I noticed that when the engine is cold it does it almost continuously, but when it gets to operating temperature it only does that at about 4-5 seconds apart.

Indeed it's a bit hard to notice over the specific TDI PD sound, but if you know your car you`ll notice it quickly.

  • hard to spot with a diesel as they do clatter a bit - it takes a trained ear!

  • do you have another simptom..like vibrating when accelerating...or something?

  • Well diagnosed!
