I could see how this show did not last. There was a physical danger someone could get a life changing injury and/or killed. This one is extremely dangerous.
@kidfrombrooklyn66 You think? people survive at subzero temperatures for longer than 7 minutes. you could get killed just as easily on Survivor or Wipeout-that's why you sign a release.
just noticed something here: they say you can win over 100k but by my count Scott was only asked 27 questions, which by my math makes 81k the max assuming he tripled. false advertising anyone?
technically you could make that if you went and answered all your questions correctly but the trick is not to miss and there was no limit to how many questions could be asked just the time limit ,2 misses or you(or the medical staff) deem you unable to continue.
The fact that this guy sued after what he went through KNOWING what it was is just nuts but hey when you go through -15 you'd want more money too wouldn't ya?
1 additional factoid: Matt Vasgersian was originally slated to host, but he was disgusted by the concept and walked out.
& I heard that on an unaired ep. there was a malfunction w/ the flames in the hot chamber & a contestant was nearly burned. If it's true I'd say FOX may have stopped the show to keep anyone from being killed! I agree Micheal as a caring human being it's tough to watch! and with the other unaired chambers you mentioned, I'm thinking where was standards and practices?
The show would have been better if, in addition to the $1,000 per correct answer, the players also earned extra money for surviving each level of the chamber. Maybe $10,000 for level 1, $25,000 for level 2, $40,000 for level 3, $75,000 for level 4, $100,000 for level 5, $250,000 for level 6, and $500,000 for level 7, for a total of $1,000,000
All in all, I thought it was a neat concept, just not executed well.
Here's yet another example of "retards at play". Now I am not saying this on behalf of the makers of the show but on behalf of the retarded people that sued the show. I mean this ranks up there with the retard who sued McDonalds because of the coffee. You know what you're gettin yourself into. If something goes wrong guess what.... DON'T FUCKING SUE!!!
The only episode I saw of this show was (I think) the one with the woman in the Hot Chamber. Being many years ago, I don't really remember it. After watching this video with actual footage from the show, I can say liked the show. People in general like seeing people being screwed over or hurt. It's called Schadenfreude and ever has their moments. But this show took those moments and turned it into a TV show with cash payout.
Also, remotes made it possible to not watch a show we don't like.
The chamber would shut down if the contestant got in the danger zone for 20 seconds, but as this guy's hospitalization proved, it doesn't have to get that far to be dangerous!
I think the contestants could also shout to stop the chamber anytime if they wanted. But no one wants to do that, because they don't want the audience to think they're a wuss and can't take it. It's like their mind is saying "Keep going..." but their body is saying "Stop the torture! I've quite had enough of this!"
@JFrombaugh True, not to mention if you don't make it through all seven levels for any reason (voluntary, 2 incorrect in a row, or danger zone), you lose half the money. So who would really be willing to voluntarily lose thousands of dollars?
That show was AWESOME. Pushing the limits of human capability is always dangerous, but they were being monitored by a doctor, and while he was hospitalized, I do not feel the show was too dangerous.
Its not that, its the fact they only gave him about $20,000 for all of that trouble they put him through, and the fact he was hospitalized often lead to a law suit.
1. he signed the release, he should have known the prize money. He decided at one point that 20 grand was enough justification, so I really don't have sympathy for him.
@xxCrazyKid I think that it might be a swarm of grasshoppers and crickets when I watched it.
Also on the video, he said that one of the other chambers included an electroshock and water torture environment. I know that the water torture is correct but the last type other than the insect chamber is a "Hurricane" chamber which could include harsh winds and rain, maybe...
It was indeed much better than The Chair, most people disagree though.. The only problem was that it wasn't appropriate to be on television.. But honestly I don't think it was so bad, look at other shows like Fear Factor, they do some pretty crazy things just like this.
I have seen some Japanese game shows that are "far much more worse" than The Chamber in terms of what some people might consider to be appropriate. The Chair was a snoozefest. "Keep your heart rate down and win big money!" What the frak?
holy shit man, that show was insane, that chamber could of given that guy hyperthermia, and he could of died there, holy crap, i cant believe that was a show. all i remember is the chair when i was younger, but even that i can barely remember
I too saw this show at a young age at thought it was awesome and cool. Now i relize..... its the most brutal thing ever...... and you get bearly any money from all that shit.
When I was in 6th grade, I thought this show was okay; at the time I didn't realize how brutal the conditions were in the hot & cold chambers. Now that i'm older I realize that was 3 hours I would never get back.
The comments I put on the first part speak for themselves. Between the poor pacing, brutal elements, low payout and terrible host this show rates as one of the worst I have ever seen. I agree with the commentator at the end and after hearing about the lawsuit i'm ready to say 0 stars.
I hope that the 100k story is true since, honestly...first, any amount of money that could be won on this show would not have been worth it, and second, it shouldn't even be legal to sign away enough for the producers to do this to you. I honestly want to know who thought this game up since that person needs either serious antipsychotics or a lobotomy. Well, unless it was suggested as a joke and somebody else who needs one of those things thought it was a good idea...
It was directed by Don Weiner and hosted by Rick Schwartz.... I liked the show when it first came out, that's because I was so young, but now I realize how bad it was and why they yanked it.
I guess I'm the only person here who would do this for $20,000.

My two main problems with this show is the poor prize money and the host asking the questions so slowly. Other than that, its not so bad!
